Anybody has any opinions on this JBL Eon15 G2 Powered Cabinet and the Mackie CFX12 mkII Mixer??
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=600200
Is it good??....does it have enough power to work with the Mackie CFX12 mkII Mixer?? The setup is for Karaoke but does it have a lot of bass for Hip Hop/Rap music as well? A friend of mine wants to buy it mainly for his living room...and I don't know if it will work well together or not...Please advise...
Thank you!

Nothing wrong with that setup. I run g2's with a Dfx12. Run balanced audio. Inside where acoustics are a factor I like to run the music faders at -3 to -6db. Same with the mains and then adjust the level on the speakers for the venue. (In the small venue we are in now They are only 1/4 to 1/3 level) Outdoors or in large venues where acoustics is not a factor you can run pretty much full bore.

Again all of the suggestions given to you will work well in a living room. I honestly think for home use you aren't going to need more than the DFX12.

I was just trying to keep it simple, the CFX is a more complex board, great board, but learn how to use it.

The Eon G2's are very good speakers. This would be a good set-up. Aren't you the same guy who was looking at the Mackie 450's...the JBL's are real close in terms of what your trying to do. These are both very good speakers...no problem either way. i would go with the Mackies though.

In a small venue after investing in a setup like that a bass would be overpowering. A better investment would be an Aphex 104 or 204.. This unit is used in stadiums and huge professional sound systems and is inserted right before the amps.
link Although with g2's in a small space you dont have to worry about bass.

Yes, I am the same guy that asked about the Mackie 450's...I took your advise and my friend bought that already. This JBL is for another friend of mine... He can't afford the Mackie 450's...as the JBL Eon15 G2 is more afforable going for $800 a pair.
Thanks

The main reason I like JBL'S I have had excellent tech support over the years and the schematics are available for downloads. With Mackie you have to call Tech support to get schematics although Mackie does gives the same professional support.
I have totally shopped out and refurbished Mackie 804's with generic parts.. I buy what I can fix and get tech support for in this country. Always have always will!!! Take the rice burners and shove them....

I think you & your friend are seriously confusing the price on the G2 series - that is not per PAIR, that is for ONE cabinet only, they are showing 2 pictures basically to show a couple different ways they can be used as either a main cabinet or a floor monitor. A PAIR of EON G2 series would run approx $1400 plus change - just like the Mackie SRM450.
There is a lower model EON called the EON 15P which would run about $900 per pair, but it's also a little over 200 watts shy (at 180 watts) of it's G2 series big brother (at 400 watts).

For home use it would still rock, but in larger areas, they tend to distort at higher volumes.

Exactly. Not sure about others but JBL and Mackie hold their resale value. You couldnt hardly buy used G2's for $800 a pair. I recently got a G2 on ebay for $380. (and it was 50 miles down the road) Used it sat and it was perfect. This is very rare and wouldnt happen again for 50 years. :D

If you must have active speakers I don't see how you would need anything more than this for use inside someone's home =>
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer-EUROLIVE-B212A-Active-Loudspeaker-600735-i1169302.gc
15" JBL EONs are overkill. Too big and way too much money for a home system.
Those Behringers are suitable for a room with 100+ people.
My 2 passive EV SX100 speakers can rock the house for a couple hundred people.
2 passive Yamaha S115V speakers or 2 JBL JRX115 are around $600 per PAIR and can blow away 150-300 people. Get a $400 Behringer powered mixer, PMP3000, and 2 passive speakers for $1000 and have a fantastic system for the price of one powered speaker.

The Mackie 10" powered are excellent speakers. In fact, my third 'small room system' consists of a 14-channel Mackie board, two 350s, and a 15-inch Mackie sub. Can't get better clarity in a speaker than these and they are very small. Wouldn't take up much room. Sub wouldn't be necessary for home use for sure...and that was the most expensive part of the setup. Don't need an amp, which is very nice. Just need a player then. So many ways to do what you want to do - just have to figure out how much equipment you want, how much room it will take up, etc.

The best home system I ever put together was with JBL 10 g2's. The 10" mackies would be just as good. However if you ever wanted to go outside or even do a gig as I explained above you can do living rooms or basements with a regular system.

Karen brings up a good point. 10" speakers are plenty for a home setup unless it's a huge mansion ballroom. Even a pair of Behringer Truth 2031 monitors with 8" woofers would do the trick.

The B52 system that Lonman suggested would blow out an event with 100 - 200 people, I'm considering it myself for future needs. I have a hard time comprehending 15" speakers for home use.
And Dennis, you can't go wrong with EV IMO. They have a system with 2 Zx1 speakers on poles over 2 SB122 subs that is mind blowing. It's about $1,400 which is the price of 2 powered speakers like Mackie or JBL. It's all matter of what you want and what you want to spend. Powered or passive, both have benefits and advantages.

Stogie,
I've always like EV equipment...goes back to my band days and the old EVL's. Some of the best equipment made. I had to downsize for mobility and because my body just can't take hauling and lifting anymore. I went from hauling amps and passive speakers for karaoke to the EV SXa250's and a mixer, and am so happy I did. It was a tough decision, but I was all ready to buy the Mackie 450's when the guy at the store asked me why I was hesitating...I told him I wanted EV, and he said "Why didn't you say so, I have a pair that were for a guy that didn't take them. You can have them for the same price." They threw in the roller cases for $100.
They are just wonderful speakers. Clean, powerful and so easy to equalize. They project clear sound for miles (well, a long way), I haven't had a room that they didn't sound great in, and pretty much even through-out the room.
The JBL G2 and Mackie SRM450's are great speakers. I think JBL started it all, and I always like the G2's from the first time I heard them. The Mackies are right up there, and come close with bass response even with a 12" speaker.
The EV SXa250's are about the same weight as the G2's and have very solid bass and a "warmer" sound, because the cabinets are wood. I tested all 3 side by side, and the EV's had more bass, and as clean if not cleaner sound. The tuff coating they use on them, makes them look like plastic, but they are wood. I haven't been able to scratch or nick them yet...and I'm pretty tough on stuff.
I paid $695 each for them, no shipping, because I bought them locally. Pretty much the same as the G2's and Mackies.

I paid $549/apiece for the Mackie 350s. And I do use them for other venues quite handily. They'll support a room of 100 easily, if the ceiling isn't too high.

I looked at the 350's, because I wanted to downsize my system. I had a problem with the fact that I was branching into weddings, and some of the halls are pretty big. Those are great speakers though. I'd like to have a set for some of the clubs I do. Did you say you had a powered sub too?
