How do we bust illegal DJ's/KJ's with these stupid computers? I've been talked to R.I.A.A., B.M.I, and sent stuff to everybody on the list on K.A.P.A. What now?

Been to the flea market lately? Bootlegs all over the place. What I'm getting at is the RIAA has bigger fish to fry than chase down the DJ/KJ who is playing illegal music. Sure they prosecute a token here or there but not enough to make an impact. Its a shame for all of us who have worked so hard and spent so much cash obtain their library legally.

You're preaching to the choir here. Most of the people here have spent a lot of money building their Karaoke collections. This has been discussed ad nauseum here.
For the most part people here are trying to help each other learn about how they can improve their skills in order to provide the highest level of entertainment for the people that they serve. This place is a valuable resource with a lot of knowledge and experience about buying equipment, which Karaoke manufacturers are best, which song versions are best, how to use equipment etc.
You might want to take some time to read some old threads before you start ranting about piracy to the people here. Most of the people here are doing things legally and honestly and this is a community of people trying to help and support each other. This isn't a clearinghouse for pirated Karaoke or a den of thieves. This is a good place with honorable people doing something positive for the communities that they serve and for people all over the country who they share their knowledge and experience with. You might want to take some time to look around and get to know this place, it's worth it.
Computers aren't the problem, not buying the Karaoke is the problem. People who legally buy Karaoke discs or download and pay for the songs and then put them on the computer aren't doing anything wrong. Technology has changed and will continue to change the way music and information is delivered.
The media companies and the music companies will need to change and adapt to new ways of doing things that are enabled by new technology. In a few years there will be newer technology and new ways of doing things, the world is changing, content producers will have to change and adapt just like everyone else.
In the next few more years almost all Karaoke will be provided by computer, there won't be any more discs. They will be obsolete and will be replaced by something else. When was the last time you saw someone playing a 78 rpm record or an 8 track tape? Do you see many horse carriages when you're driving down the street lately? Have you had any ice delivered for your ice box recently? Do you rub two sticks together when you want fire? Jeez . . . "those stupid computers".

Although the wave is to play from cpu, I don't see the cd dropping off the face of the earth the way the record and 8-track did. It will become less and less prevelant for sure, but it will still be around for quite some time to come.
I also believe that they should put cameras ontop of all the speed limit signs so that if you are doing say 30mph in a 25mph zone, they could send you a ticket and then if you don't pay it in say 3 days, they should sentence you to death. Just think of all of the $ they could bring in! Not that I'm condoning illegal hard drives...but darn, give me a break....Don't we have more to worry about in the world????? MrD

[glow=blue]Or the people who are switching their music to computers because they have bad backs...or something where it's getting harder and harder to carry that huge blasted five foot box full of CDS?....[/glow]

Illegal KJ's/ DJ's - ? sometimes making a "stink" does not benefit anyone -
Who is to say you are LEGAL ? just because you use CDG's? - Is your venue up to date with all there R.I.A.A., B.M.I, payments ???? As someone already mentioned the laws and rules on the use of CDGS and MP3+G's made from them is very very vague and many times left up to interpretations. The reason you must be upset is
#1 LACK OF WORK
#2 REDUCED PAY
neither one is attributed to your ILLEGAL competition ... The economy is going thru changes - Business at Bars and Pubs have slowed slightly due to strict laws on DRINKING and SMOKING , Karaoke now has competition in bars from other entertainment options ( trivia games / digital juke boxes / poker / ) and not to mention the staples of POOL and DARTS...
Don't waste your time trying to shut down your competition - re think your business plan and your marketing plan and go out and sell your show. It doesn't matter if you have a 3,000 song library or a 30,000 song library as long as you have good basic KJ skills and a quality sound system. YOU CAN DO IT !!! ![Need a Hug? :need hug:](./images/smilies/emot-wanttohug.gif) :need hug:

If you change the way you look at things, The things you look at will change. A simple but very profound statement. Read it several times!
Stop worrying about the hack KJ with the Bootleg songs. There is nothing that can be done about it at this time. If you continue to dwell on it, it will continue to be a problem for you and your business.
Start thinking about what you can do different that these hacks to make your show and venue far more attractive and fun. Energy spent focusing on how to improve your setup and show will be far better spent than thinking about something you have no control over.

Well I understand where she is coming from. I know of a couple of companies in my area that are running multiple shows off of 1 collection. But I just try to make my shows better than theirs. I too am going digital and will copy my disc to my hard drive.

I can't get shows will all the equipment I have, folks, due to those stupid computers; Fender monitors,JBL speakers, Shure mics, vocal compressors, sound equipment in a rolling rack, triple tray cdg player. I WILL NOT take all that equipment out to a show for $50-$75.00 per night. Nor will I have a stupid tip jar. The establishment pays the KJ's. A person that has to beg for tips is ignorant. I saw a KJ,twice that had problems with his computer. The first time he made 1 phone call and his supplyer brought him a whole new set-up. The 2nd time the same thing happened only he went out to his vehicle and brought back another set-up. That's against R.I.A.A. I talked to R.I.A.A. myself and reported him. Yea, there are alot of bad singers at shows; computers make the real good ones sound like crap because they don't have the right equipment or know how to make them sound good. The songs that ruined his hard drive were Sound Choice. Hmmmm. Maybe Sound Choice is doing something about downloading their stuff since I was told KJ's were switching to Sound Choice.

You sure are awful observant, maybe you should concentrate on running your shows....instead of getting all pissed off because someone has a 2nd cpu and do what they must to get back up and running.
"I WILL NOT take all that equipment out to a show for $50-$75.00 per night"
You are right...you don't have to do anything...stay at home and wonder why you can't get any work! It must be because everyone is out to get you and your legit business.
This reminds me of someone starting a conversation by saying, "Honestly, I wouldn't lie to you!"

I have 2 full zipper cases. They're easier than a 5 foot box.

It's rude to try and get a show at the same venue while a KJ has one going on.

if a bar says they can get so and so for $50 a night, ask them HOW they're buying their replacement gear, discs, paying for gasoline... when they're shut down by the powers that be when they get their act together, you'll wish them well from the OTHER side of the steel bars... "oh wait, didn't I tell you? Hiring someone that's breaking the law is just as good as you doing it yourself!"

No wonder you're upset , I wouldn't like it either if I saw someone walk in with a couple of powered speakers - 2SM58 mics and some cables with a 6 channel mackie Board and a LAPTOP and hosted a show while -ALL YOUR EQUIPMENT IN A HEAVY AZZ ROLLING RACK was sitting idle gathering dust. LMAO LMAO
Honestly you sound bad... If this guys system is BAD and the kj is BAD and his selection is BAD ...Don't call RIIA ..Call the Bar manager and convince him you are worth more than $50 per night

Thank you, knightshow. Since a particular KJ'DJ plays at Mexican restaurants, the owners probably don't know what we all know. They just want more business. I'm just a nobody. How can I bust them? I don't have authority.
