Hello all!  My name is Michael and this is my first posting here.

I am just getting back into the entertainment business using Karaoke as my background in singing to residents at Nursing homes.  To sum up the last 4 years, I got equiptment then got sick and for the next 3 years bounced around from one major illness to the next.  The equipment I purchased was too heavy for me to handle anymore and eventually found someone who traded my original equipment to something I could handle.  I have a Phonic 620 mixer and a Prevey PR12 speaker.  My music is on my laptop.

So my question is about the Digital Effects.  Man.... there are so many.  So far 'CHORUS+REV3' sounds good with the effects at half.  I have a show tomorrow and I guess I'm worried that the effects will be terrible.  If I think it is at the time I can obviously turn them off.... I have a list of 4 effect settings if the audiance gives me strange looks... my wife will be there too... how do you guys go about deciding what effect to use?

Welcome to KS forum Micheal. There are a few people here who are like you; doing gig using karaoke backing.

Are you using the on-board dsp efx or do you have a separate out-board unit?

The system I used to have was seperate but this Phonic I have has everything built in. So far I am LOVING it!  Very easy to hook up everything compaired to what I had.

michael I do similar to you...I sing using cdg as backing and I too rip my discs to my laptop so as I can change course in an instant rather than have to fossick around looking for a disc. It gives me the freedom and the confidence to read a crowd, knowing that I can change my songs and style in an instant to suit.

Really its all trial and error with efx. Pick one you feel sounds good and turn it up just enough that you dont necessarily notice it there, but you do notice when its not.
Remember that ever venue will vary, but if you are playing to oldies then please do remember their hearing aids, those suckers are sensitive and there is nothing worse than a whinging geriatric (I speak from experience)

good luck with your gigs and welcome to KS, hope we hear you sub on SS in the near future also :)
