Hi Everyone.  This time I wonder if anyone can recommend wireless mikes in the 2 to 3 hundred dollar range.  Can't really spend a lot of $$ at this time so I'm looking for the best bang for the buck that's not going to sound like crap.

AKG WMS-40 is pretty good. $200 for one, $350 for two. I own one, and while I would rather have the SM-58, it costs twice as much or more.

The WMS-40 also has the advantage of getting 20 or more hours from a singler AA battery.

Even though this set of mics is cheap it works great for me. I'm on my second set now. I definitely recommend them. If you don't like them you can send them back w/in 45 days.

one thing to remember is that the freq range may be enter feared with from other wire-less  devices and set your  reciever for your mic at least four foot from your pa system ,so you dont get any un-wanted hum  thru your pa speakers,

as far as brand off wire-less mics  i have used cheep one and exsp. ones  ,results about the same,  some times your going to be paying for the name, not the product

Just got a Samson Stage 5 mic in the mail today. I'm going to give it a try at my show tonight. Ill let you know how it goes.

Keep in mind that any wireless microphone you purchase that operates above 698mhz will be totally useless come Feburary 2009. When the new Digital tv system goes live.

That is the majority of the inexpensive uhf systems.

You are going to want to purchace a system that operates beteen 550mhz and 650mhz there are a few out there but they all are in the $500 to $1000 range.

Shure reccomends for gaurented non interferance I use the UHF-r Series a dual system is just under $4500

No, you are wrong. They have *the potential* of being useless in some locations and under some conditions at that time.

It is not like all of a sudden huge jamming stations are going to start operating in those freq bands. The spectra are being sold, and in most cases it is unclear what will happen on each band.

I couldn't get the Samson mike to work last night! rrrrggg. Next week Ill spend a little more time with it. I was told it didn't have a plastic 'body' either but it does. I have always stayed away from mics that have plastic bodies. Is this a mistake? Are there good sounding mics with the body being plastic?

But you would not want to buy a mic that have 'the potential' to be useless.

The set from Gem Sound has plastic bodies and I've used them for several months now. The first set I had was the first model to come out. Someone placed it on one of my speakers and it rolled off. It didn't work after that. I contacted the company and they gave me a brand new set under the warranty. They have upgraded them now and they seem to be a bit more rugged. I keep them wrapped in an old, thick sock when packed up.

They have worked great for me. I've had absolutely NO interference with them. They have a great distance range, too. For $50 for two mics there is no way you can go wrong.

They have a 1/4" plug (low impedance) instead of the larger high impedance. The volume level is relatively low but I have a Peavy XR-600 head so I crank the main up to get the volume I need.

You should never give your singer a chance to put a mic at the top of the speaker. Never, never ever.

It was a kid's birthday party and a 6 year-old did it. Her Mom offered to pay for it but I had a warranty. Just an accident.

I've guarded them with my life since.

Plastic on the outside doesn't mean plastic on the inside.

It's the guts that makes the sound difference.   They are not like speakers.   Wood sounds better than plastic.  Because the sound needs the box to react with.  Microphones just need good guts.

I have never had a kid drop a microphone.  Just stupid drunk adults.  LMAO

The point I want to make is that it is a good recipe for feedback. A bad feedback can kill your speaker.

And I mean that -- if Shure SM58 wireless go down to $200.00, I will probably buy one even though it might become useless in a few years.

Certainly if you can get a frequency agile system that is going to be the best way to go.  The system I have is way out of the price range you mention, but I love the auto-scanning feature which scans for available frequencies.... that make set-up a lot easier, especially if moving around different venues.

The plastic body of the Shure Beta87C mic transmitter doesn't seem to affect it's performance at all... makes it a bit lighter to handle!

IMO, with the changes that are coming that could effect the performance of wireless microphones.  One should consider programable microphones and ones that are true diversity, so you have less chance of a signal drop out.  If you are upgrading your microphones now, don't waste your money on anything less, or you may be buying them again.

The answer to your 2009 problem is wired/cable mic. SIMPLE.
