Does anyone know of software that will create maybe a scrolling message across the screen for the audience screen? I'd like the text to be changed easily.

Sax & Dotty's Show Presenter has this but I was thinking of a stand alone application that is cheaper or free.

I'd also like to advertise between songs.

Maybe Powerpoint or something similar?

Any input is appreciated!

MDP

Compuhost does this out of the box, which is a big plus for  a venue that wants to promote other events.

We use it at our service club to promote other events. It has what it calls "video bits", which allows you to play a video or show a graphic file between songs.

It also has a promo trailer that gives a one-liner at the end of the scrolling singer list -- during the song. This helps get messages out well -- people are always looking to see when they are next.

How do you set up the Powerpoint? Set it as a slideshow with consecutive slides?

How do you change something on the fly?

Thanks,
MDP

I looked at Compuhost. It is really nice but far from cheap! Will Compuhost import the files as zip? I tried the JustKaraoke from Teicerasoft and never could get it to read my zip files. I really prefer to keep them in zip format.

Sax & Dotty's Show Presenter is really nice, too. Especially, for only $60.

Thanks,
MDP

Yes, CH is able to import songs in zip format. The best program I used so far, worth every cent.

Didn't you mention a dongle?

How big is it? USB?

Yes, Compuhost is using a dongle. And if you're an untidy person, this might be a problem.

I personally take very good care of my equipment and everything has it's spot. I for sure will not have a problem with a dongle.

And yes, the dongle is a little USB stick, kind of the size of a USB thumb drive.

Tig showed me that winamp ver 5 and higher had a AFS (I THINK) that allowed you to put scrolling msgs or at least one that would pop up at the bottom. I believe you can set it up to do a number of ways of displaying that msg.

I'm still using an older version of winamp, so I can't tell you any more than that!

I downloaded and installed CompuHost evaluation version today. It is realy nice but my video card isn't up to par. I had to run in Standard mode and it crashed after about 3 songs.   :(  I'm running a laptop so upgrading the video card isn't an option. I really liked what I saw of CompuHost. It is really a nice package.

I suppose it is off the table for me, though. I just bought a new desktop so the laptop will have to chug alog for quite some time now.

I really appreciate all of your advice, Sevarin. You are right, too. It IS a very well laid out program and very feature rich!

If you just want to have scrolling text, easy to change during the show, you may look at my other posting here:

for a text ticker

If you don't use a computer, try looking on ebay for a Videonics titlemaker II. A used one runs about $50. You'll need an extra video monitor so you can see what your typing. A little more setup than normal, maybe not for everyone. I use one and post b-days,bar specials, my Karaoke services, ect.
