Just curious what you are budgeting for equipment purchases for 2008?

Each year I sit down and budget about 10% of my show's gross income for new purchases. Here are my pic's for this year.

1. Purchase a Lighting Package - A couple of LED Color Wash lights, and either an American DJ Revo 3 moonflower pattern, or a Chauvet Vue 3 moonflower light, and a light stand for both. I also want a mirrored ball but not sure how I want to rig it on a light stand so it might have to wait.  Budget $650

2. Road Cases for my L1 Bose Towers  SKB Double Shotgun Case - $200

One other purchase I may consider is if I have enough money this year is a
19" wide screen LCD TV and a custom stand. I have been looking at the one that
Ace Karaoke has but have not been able to pull the trigger on the purchase button yet.
$449 seems steep.

I budgeted $30,000 for upgrades this year. About 1/3 of my sales. But I had also saved $12,000 from 2007's budget for upgrades as I was waiting to do everything at once. So total out of 2008's income $18,000.

Bar / Karaoke Purchase.

4 new Wireless mics unaffected by the recent change in frequecies to tv. $2200

2 QSC PLX2 3602 - $2400

General DJ Business.

4 - 10ft sections of Global truss with base plates for vertical lighting

2 - 42" LCD tv's for video Playback

2 - ATA road Cases for TV Transport.

2 - DLP Projectors 3000 lumen or better

4 - Moving Head Lighting Fixtures

4 - LED Par Can's

2 - Yorkville LS800p Subs

I plan to check out all the new gear at the trade show in vegas so I sould be picking alot of this up around the 1st week of march.

My Budget: $1,500
My Wife's Budget: $0
Actual Expenditures: ???

I want to get a better rack setup. I think what I may end up doing is combining my BBE and crossover in one rack space, allowing me to put my compressor in the same rack.  Also I want to go all LCD for my screens, with possibly a projector.

I would like to have three different setups:

   A)  ultra-portable -- powered mixer and PR-10 or two. Takes up a small part of my (capacious) trunk.

   B) Small gig, no monitor (or powered monitor), powered mixer, 15" sub, 10" mains, all lightweight. One rack, one powered mixer, one mic/cable bag, sub, mains, stands, LCD TV mounted on a music stand. Fits in my car even with a passenger or two.

   C) Big gig, all the whistles. Multiple monitors, 18" sub, 15" mains, 2400W power amp. Two racks and a powered mixer with lots of weight. Need truck or trailer, or no passengers in my car. 8-)

My wife -- were she consulted -- would insist that I have enough stuff. She is right, no doubt, since I don't use this to make money. But I will prevail nonetheless. 8-)

Why go with lcd tvs?? I understand the 42 inch. But why would you want to buy an lcd tv for singers  when you can buy a monitor only much cheaper. This is meant for computer users of course.

I'm purchasing 19" LCD because I like to travel light. I'm tired of lugging around Tube TV's

My bar gig's have TV's this is for private parties and weddings.

If you use a modern laptop, most have an SVideo and not VGA. Also, it can be repurposed.

A better question would be why would you want to use a TV instead of an LCD? Why would you want to lug around a bulkier, heavier glass TV instead of an LCD?
A 15" LCD isn't expensive anymore. You can find 19" LCD monitors on sale for around $200, maybe a little more.

Used 15"
http://cgi.ebay.com/15-Gateway-FPD-1530-LCD-Monitor_W0QQitemZ370015186178QQihZ024QQcategoryZ3698QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

New 15"

another new one, 19"
http://www.compusa.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=3428431&sku=H94-1924&SRCCODE=COMEM002

This is an important part of your equipment IMO.

The main reason I want a LCD TV besides being lite and portable is that I can use VGA or S-Video, RCA or Coax depending on my situation which makes it extremely versatile.  When not in use for karaoke it will make a nice TV for my office/studio to watch DVD's or for Beta Testing Software etc.

I would probably use a 25ft S-Video cable as they are more flexible and are quite inexpensive to buy.

Besides the lighting and LCD I have quite a bit more to spend but have not figured out what else I can add this year. I spent quite a bit last year and my main setup is all brand new and exactly what I want.  It's a strange feeling but I'm finally to the point where I'm totally happy with my system and selection so after the next few purchases I will probably focus on getting a quality website built. I've had the domain name for 2 years but have not had the time to put serious thought into building a site that will knock my clients socks off. It has not been a priority as my referral business is supplying all the gigs I can handle right now anyway.

The only thing that dictates my budget is repair or breakage.  If it ain't workng it's fixed or replaced and the budget doesn't matter. If you need it, you need it.  Could be a lot or it could be small.

I just took a plunge and bought 2 EV SX500+'s and a QSC PLX23602 to go with it. There are three more things on my list, which will be added when funds come available (not time related). A pair of subs, a powered monitor and the dba driverack PA processor ($400). Since I insist on quality, i calculated around $2000 for the subs (even though the B52's 18" active and passive combo looks tempting for altogether around $1300) and around $600 for the monitor.

This year I went digital. Wondering why I didn't do this earlier!! It was spendy and it took some time to load my cdg's but it was well worth it!  Last night was my first show with the new setup, it went better than expected!(Anyone interested in some old Cavs 203's? hehe) Next on the list are some nice wireless mics and some speakers that Rock!

This year's budget is capped at $5,000. This includes music updates, new better not-off-the-shelf binders (actual binded-karaoke books), a new infocus projector and screen, and a decent wireless mic set-up (not sure what kind yet).

WOW , not every day I see somebody other than myself that uses the SX500+. My second PA has a pair of Acoustic (old and verry good) single 12s with EV drivers, and an 18 inch sub. with the sub it sounds as good as the sx500s But its more hassle.

For your subs I would go with sonic cabs with EV pro line drivers (B52 and Cardboard waga flex way too much and loose punch). using the SX500s you really do not need a sub till you get to big venues so I would go big on the subs. I have 4 sonic single 18 scoops with EV drivers for really large rooms or outdoor shows. they will make your pants flap at 4 feet. the sub in my small system is A sonic with a shelf port and an EV 18b.

for more indoor shows I might use the 18 W cabs if hauling and storage space are not an issue. the scoops and W cabs are 4 feet tall so they can take up some space. I do believe sonic has some other options .they will also let you order with options on drivers or unloaded and you install whatever driver you like. I think the EVs are a factory option.  around here sonic is really popular, as they are localy made. you might have to look around for dealers near you.

Actually in 07 I didnt work for 6 months Due to popular demand I came out of retirement again. As a result I didnt buy very much new music. I did recently buy some Chartbuster  with the the new Sugarland etc on it. I also just got another G2.

The major part of the budget may be for new karaoke and DJ. Although I  do keep the karaoke trimmed about 13k and DJ about 9.5k. It will not be a wholesale buy a bunch of cd's but by singers requests for new stuff.

WOW Ollie! That's a great budget to work with. But why so much? Expanding your business?

I just bought 43 discontinued sound choice powerpicks at $3 each and 147 back issues of THM from 2006 back to 2000 also for $3 each- brand new from a karaoke store here. They mentioned THM was sued by PHM and were no longer allowed to produce and sell pre-2006 THM discs- don't know if it's true...but i got a heck of a deal for my second rig! :oh yeah:  :oh yeah:
