hey everyone,
my dad wants to convert an old laptop into a karaoke machine.  he's got a few usb microphones to plug in, too.  he's looking for some software that can control the mics and support dual displays.  his collection is all zipped mp3+g's.  any suggestions?

I'd like to do the same.  What are the specs on the computer, is it XP ? RAM, HD ?

it's a laptop my company is getting rid of.  i haven't brought it home yet.  it's five years old.  i'm pretty sure it's a pentium m.  it's probably got 256 mb's ram and it's running windows xp pro.  he's going to upgrade the harddrive to a 160 gb.  i can probably get him to upgrade the ram, too.

Just Karaoke has mike control and costs $24.95. Runs on vista as well as xp pro. You can get it at www.tricerasoft.com as well as new songs if he is looking for them.

Siglos Karaoke Player/Recorder should work (it does on my 6 years old laptop). There is an issue with USB microphone though -- as you will be able to record singing, you may have problems hearing yourself singing while the music is playing.

JustKaraoke has all but a filler player and is a great little hoster that packs a lot of features for the price.
