I have just installed the SAX program, and while attempting to import some sound files, they don't import.  For some reason, ALL of my sound clips (applause, cheering, theme songs, etc) are coming up in WinAmp Media File format. The SAX will not import them.

Suggestions????

ThanX

Well Sax plays it's files through win amp.  The files are all managed by Sax & Dotties, but plays via win amp.  Sorry, it's early still so I can't make it much clearer than that.  I'm sure someone else on here will be able to clerify more for you.

Question....are you talking about sound effect files such as wav files (cheering, applause and others) to be used with the sound effect buttons?

If you are then you don't import them, they are assigned to a button by going to the tools/options/utilities menu.

Make sure you have the drive named correctly.  And you are importing the correct files and then transferring them to main.

Are they on an internal or external hard drive?   The external drive letter designation changes sometimes.  Make sure it's the same as you named it.

First you Get files.  Tell it where to look.

Then you Transfer to main.

Steve,

While I like S&D, it can be limiting challenging to use.
It is correct that Sax & Dottie will only import zip files, as Morgan suggested.  As an aside, I list in S&D DVD's that S&D can't play.  I simply pick any file, copy it and label it with the name of the DVD and list the track number as "DVD".  This way, I'm not going to lose sight of the fact that if the only version I have of a song is on a DVD, I will have to retrieve the DVD before calling that singer up!

Now, to your specific question about sound files.  While S&D's Utilities Buttons will give you quick access to some of the types of files you are interested in retrieving, the "buttons" are quite limiting, if for no other reason that the fact that there are only 15 of them.

Here is what I do.  After you open up S&D (which actually opens Winamp first), open Winamp again, YES, again!  In the second Winamp you've opened, you can set up a list of what you'd like to play during the show.  You can even establish ahead of time, in order to facilitate quick access, named playlists you want to have available during your show and swithch back and forth between those lists.  You can also establish folders that you can switch back and forth between, but it seems to be easier working with playlists.  Play around with it yourself and see what you prefer!

Lastly, with two Winamp opened, they will both play at the same time (two different tracks)!!!

This approach offers a great deal of flexibility and individual "creativity".  I urge you, if you want to take advantage of this, to play around with it for yourself.  There are many ways to "skin the perverbial cat" using this approach .  For example, one can also put the Winamp "Media Library" to use.  While that involves learning how to use the Media Library, IMO it's worth the effort.

So..lets talk about the simplest, most direct way to do have a music file or files waiting to play in your "2nd Winamp".

Let's assume that there are a several music files you would like to have available for use during your show and that they are in various folders.  Furthermore, assume that you will not use any file more than once per show.  Find each file you would like to have available (MAKE SURE IT IS CLEARLY LABELED) and right click on each.  Select "Engueue in Winamp" from the pop-up menu, and the file will then be on the Playlist Editor when and if you want to use it.

When you are ready to use a file, you can double click on it and it will play.  Or... you can move the file to the top of the queue when you know it will be used next and then click on the start button when you're ready for it to play!

Let me add this.  If you should want to minimize the "2nd Winamp" after each use, it will be clear to you from what's on the task bar (at the bottom of your screen) which Winamp player has your "miscellaneous" files vs which Winamp goes with S&D

As ericlater mentioned about using 2 instances Winamp you will have to make sure under Winamp Options that you have the checkbox checked for "Allow Multiple Instances" And as he said play around with it...Winamp is capable of doing a lot of things!

I am not sure what versions of Sax N Dotty Show presenter others on here are using, I am using ver 2.2 and mine will import into the database zip files, mp3 files and mpg files.
