Want to change to http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i- ... 2MKII.html

and add a power amp for now, because I cannot afford to get powered speakers at this time. I want to use the 2 Yamaha 15's and my 2 EV 12's. Maybe later I can get a couple of SRM 450's.

Any suggestions on a suitable amp that won't break the bank??

Just an FYI...this is not for proffessional use...strictly home/hobby "cause I want one" thing. Don't need MONSTER power.

May I ask why you want this? Your Yamaha is an excellent little unit. The CFX-12 is undoubtedly a fine mixer, but I think it is reaching the end of its life cycle.  Lonman just replaced his with a newer Mackie model.

For the moment, of course, you could just feed the main out of the new mixer to a couple of channels on the Yamaha, and use that for your amp.

I bought a Behringer EP2500 power amp on Ebay for about $220. It is a serious amp used by quite a few touring bands and sound companies. On the low end pricewise, it has serious power -- enough to drive the four speakers you mention.

Personally, I am looking at the Yamaha (unpowered) mixers as my next purchase. I love the idea of one-knob compression. How does that work for you?

the Crown-xls-402d would suit the yamaha br speakers nicely at about 395.00$, for mains, and you could push your ev-12s with the power from your powered mixer from the aux send 1 or 2 from the Mackie cfx mixer for a separate controllable mix. also check out Carvin .com they also make some nice economical quality amplifiers.

Mckyj57 makes a couple of very valid points, if your trying to keep it simple the EMX312 is a great head, a bit on the pricey side though. Also the new Yamaha compact boards are very nice if you insist on going unpowered. By the way If you decide you want an amp I know a guy on here that is changing his rig to powered speakers and will be letting a Mackie 1400I and a Yamaha P5000S go in the very near future.

The compression seems to work ok.....based on my vast knowledge of sound reinforcement ....sorry I can't give you a intelligent answer, but I'd rather be honest!

Which Yamaha mixer are you looking at?

mckyj57, I help my brother run his show now and then and we use the Yamaha EMX 312 powered mixer. The compression actually works pretty well, we have some decent singers whose voices tended to fade in an out due to poor mike technique and the compression feature seems to have helped that greatly. Only problem is the singers have asked, why is my voice going louder and lower, when actually their voices are mixed in way better.

You could use one of those. It would work very well.

ONLY reason I changed my board out is because I needed more channels, the CFX is only a 12 channel board I needed 16.  My CFX is still an excellent board which I will still use for backup purpose or the begining of another system possibly, but it wasn't due to anything else.

The amp that is being sold on ebay is a great amp, more than enough power for a home user & you may be able to get it at a great price.

I am looking at the MG124CX, the one with 6 mic channels (4 with compression). I am going to go look at it in the store, so I can hear the effects, but I understand they are pretty decent. I doubt I will throw over my Lexicon, but you never know.

Right now, I have a Behringer PMH3000, Lexicon MX200, and an Autocom MDX1600 that provides that function. In practice, I really use the powered mixer part to do the monitor speakers. I can replace that function with a powered monitor speaker.

So with that little Yamaha board and a BBE crossover, that reduces my rack spaces by two. So then I fit into a 6-space rack.

Got to try my mixer out yesterday a little. Been sick since it came in so it stayed in the box a couple of days! Haven't got something right. When I plug in my condenser mic, and turn on phantom power, I have to turn gain up alot to even get LED to blink! Thinkin' I may put my Samson C Valve back in the loop and give that a try. I like the mixer though! Nice little unit.

Shouldn't need to be that high.  Try it one of the other mic channels, could be the phantom power isn't working right.  Or the pin configuration is different between the Yamaha & the mic.

Same with other channels as well. I then put my Samson C Valve back in the loop, adjusted its levels per instructions, plugged into LINE instead of MIC on the MG124CX...still have to turn GAIN way up to even make PEAK light flicker. I'm getting gobs of volume from the MG124, with or without the CValve in place,....I'm just a little confused as to why it takes so much gain to peak the channel. I then tried a SM58 straight into the MG124, same results..GAIN waay up to even see a flicker on PEAK LED.

I may be missing something..a button somewhere or something not set correctly on the MG124CX.

Not sure how to run an accurate test before returning the mixer! I'll be reading while I wait for some guidence here!....thanks ...Jim
