Lonnie mentioned something in a different forum IE..\

Quote:
I have a guy that brings in his own 835 when he comes to sing.  I know that when I swap out the mic, the channel eq must be adjusted quite a bit in the cuts or highs & mids somewhere around 2k.

and I have a question, so the best way to resolve it is to post a photo of what my settings currently are...  I have NO CLUE how to EQ for my voice..  I am going stereo in and trying to blend channel one and channel two. I have NO clue what I am doing, or why I figure this is the best sounding setting, because once into the computer, dunno what goes on !!  Suggestions ?  I don't really know what to cut, what to boost, or what this low cut switch stuff does.  If I did ages ago, I don't recall, nor can I apply it for my singing, etc...

Never seen such a board.
why do you use line in for mic and not mic in your input?
Your board does not seem to have eq knobs.

That's some ancient technology there boy!
Anyway, channel 1 & 2, are these your computer music or your mics or 1 is mics & the other music?

If it is your mics, then you want to switch that switch at top to mic or mic att (boosted signal if the mic level is weak).  The low cut switch selects which frequency either 100 & below or 200 & below will be cut.  Most mixers todays low cuts are either 80-100hz.  So keep it at 100 hz for mics.
The eq only consists of a swept mid only, no highs, no lows!  You can select a frequency between 1K & 7K, this works in conjunction with the level control right above it.  Dead center is no gain or cuts.  Currently on channel one you are setting the frequency at approx 5k & boosting it (don't know the incriments) & on channel 2 you are setting the frequency at approx 3K & boosting it the same amount.  Again, if these are just your mics, then I would leave the level in the middle (basically bypassed), then listen to see how it sounds, does it need more brightness or is it too bright?   So you can either boost or lower the particular frequency that is set.  This almost looks like just an old voice only mixer, it wouldn't be very effective for music as you wouldn't be able to adjust the bass or treble at all.
What does the rest of it look like make/model?

LMAO   Yes,  It's an analog (1986 I think) TEAC M-09 audio mixer.  Let me explain how I have it wired.  Since I have A Dell sound chip to get audio (Jian knows about this stuff because it's on the SingSnap boards) I had to DL some drivers and do a slight wiring mod...

Microphone--------> Low-Z adaptor balanced 1/4 inch Zoom 2020 stereo effect processor-------->stereo headphone 1/8 out to dual 1/8 RCA phono female plugs--------->Monster cable dual male 1/8 (both ends)---------->channel one and channel two of TEAC mixer--------------->1/8 R and L line out channels of mixer Y cable to single male 1/8------------>microphone 1/8 computer input (and this is the problem with the singsnap dell combo where revision had to be made meaning single speaker out runs to Y 1/8 split female 1/8 with one 1/8 single male/male running back into computer line-in, and other goes to speakers... What's worse is I broke that down further and have one LONG 1/8 going into 1/4 adaptor into PA mixer)

I'm sure you are sorry you asked, but this is my current reality.  I use the FX unit for my bass, treble, and set features once I get a somewhat neutral acceptable sound for my voice on the audio mixer.

Let me go back and read the suggestions given,  they are MUCH appreciated !  I just wanted to answer the questions first.

I know. Funny thing is,  to me 1986 wasn't so long ago considering the 50's and 60's tube audio stuff I have on nearby shelves..

Smithsonian probably would like it...  It has Dual analog VU meters with lightbulbs

This is the primary problem (I sing with the SingSnap backings).  The site is setup for Mic'ing directly only,  meaning with certain sound chips you are stuck with what the microphone picks up only on that site...  It doesn't work with line-in on some of the Dell soundcards.

I have the Tascam mixer and others stuff in the other room, but no more recent digital stuff... except the Roland DR-5

Dayum guy, just bite the bullet & get a new small mixer!  Plug your mics & computer into the mixer & the output of the mixer into your PA or stereo & if you want to record, patch back into the computer line in from the tape out.  What your describing is way more complicated than it needs to be & you probably aren't even getting the best sound you can - especially with that very limited channel eq.

Yep Lonnie,  they are cheap enough, and at least now that I've posted what I have, you've confirmed that this isn't adequate,  I wasn't sure... Don't know about this stuff...  Yep,  that's my dinosaur you've posted up there !  Have to admit,  it makes a nice nightlight tho LOL..  I just used it as a keyboard mixer that I channeled into another mixer

Well actually that is more like what it is designed for a basic line mixer for keyboards or cd players, etc, that don't need any eq'ing as it would feed into a secondary mixer source up the line.  This was geared for bands that had multiple line level intruments on stage that needed to feed into the main house mixer - which most likely had limited channels back then.  Still not all uncommon to see a separate drum mixer up on stage then feed the stereo channel to the main board.  But it really isn't good for much more honestly.

But you have not seen the old SP2 speakers we used; weight one ton each and push only 250w. LOL  LOL

Especially when you consider what you pay for those snake-oil Monster cables -- you could buy a $30.00 mixer for what you pay for one of those ridiculous things.

Old Peavey boat anchors that are still alive are still worth their technology, but this mixer should have been to put out pasture years ago...... LMAO

Even those old SP2's (the originals) even though they claimed 250 watts, guarantee you can push them with a 500 watt amp & they'd be more than fine, back then they were rated much lower than they could actually handle.

I have never been an advocate of Monster cables, unless you are an audio purist is a controlled environment, they are not going to be much better than a generic 12 guage speaker cable.

Channel three Line in.  Y splitter dual 1/8 RCA L/R phono out of Spark-o-matic 8 track player into single RCA male phono connecting to channel three 1/8 in (on mixer).  I get some spurious hum from the 13.8 volt DC converter I use to power it, however but the hump mount it's on from the car looks pretty cool !

SP-2's are considered old ???   Well look at it this way,  my Jenson Gold-backs in the univox cab are considered old too,l but I'll tell you something... They are pretty nice speakers...  Classic Ampeg SVT bass cab with 8x10 EV's isn't bad either... slightly large and heavy of course :(  But so are the tube amp heads...  My Thorens turntable isn't bad either.

Guy's

Can I get a digital portastudio that takes CD's, and has a harddrive, but will also serve as a mixer I can use to run into the computer for a few hundred ?  Suggestions ?   I don't have a digital portastudio, and would like to combine the two if possible !  I'd rather combine the two, if not how about the Alesis USB-8  for $149 ?  Does the PV-8 Peavey mixer have FX ?  Any opinions ?

I currently am using a 1980 Peavey XR400 head.  Personal use only of course.  Did do a New Years Eve Bash, Ran that Sum un a (@$%&#!) for 7 hrs solid and tore the house down.  Although I would love to go to a mixer, power amp setup but monies are the problem.

Here's what I'm thinking of,  and as soon as a verdict comes in I'm calling MF, because I want to also take advantage of their 15% off accessories that ends today

Yamaha 8 channel for 179
Alesis USB8                149
PV8                     around the same

Opinions ?
