I once had an incident on my desktop computer, which was of no consequence, that caused the "labels" on my external hard drives and flash drives to get reassigned.

Now this has happened to my show computer.  When the drive label is changed, the "hosting" programs I use will not be able to find the required karaoke files!

During a screwed-up attempt to correct the problem, I ended up assigning the required drive label to a different external hard drive.  While this "fix" will work, and requires a minimal amount of effort to get everything back to where it was, it isn't exactly what I wanted!

I would like for the original external drive to be recognized by its old label on the show computer (laptop)!

Does anyone know how to prevent such reassignment(s) from happening?

Does anyone know how to return a drive label to its previous designation?

As a curiousity, does anyone know if two different drives can have the same label when they are used at different times on the same computer?

Standard is OS on c:/ music on D:/

Use the following method. Assign all drives above C:/ past D:/ Then insert Flash or usb drive. Assign it to D:/ I havnt tried it with usb HDD but a flash drive when reassigned and reinserted will be drive D:?

Code:
1. Open the Control Panel
2. Select Classic View (if not already setup that way)
3. Click Administrative Tools Folder
4. Double-click the Computer Management icon
5. Computer Management window will open. Click storage in the left page.
6. Double-click Disk Management
7. Right-click the drive you want to change
8. Select Change Drive Letter and Paths
9. Click the Change Button
10. Select the drive letter to which you want to assign it
11. Note the warning and agree if you accept the risks
12. Close out the disk management

Anytime you change drives, add drives, use a different drive you should use the above method to make sure the drive name hasn't changed.

If you use Sax & Dottys and the drives were updated with new songs, you need to delete the database and reimport the songs again to update the song list.

I have had the drive name change by itself, just because it wanted to. :O  LMAO

Thanks so very much

It worked like a charm and now I have complete control over what devices I want to use when and where.
