I've seen some CAVS disks being sold with 1000 or more songs on them. Since I am PC based, how do I go about putting the songs on my PC once I buy the disk?  What program do I need?

Has anyone run these disks in their PC from the DVD drive instead of copying the songs to the hard drive? How does it work? Is it slow? what hosting program are you using?

Is the process the same with the NEO Super CDG disks?

Can you use a Super CDG disk in a regular DVD player?

I believe Roxbox has a prog that will rip them to your pc...aside from that I have no idea

As far as I can tell CAVS are a waste of time and money.

What about powerkaraoke? Anyone use their DVD software with a CAVS disk to HD?

like I said the only scdg ripping prog I know is in the roxbox suite. I had researched this after purchasing a cavs player that came with 5 scdg discs. I purchased it as a hire machine for the hotel I worked for. The cavs player is sooo sluggish and wont play the higher numbers on the discs, so I was going rip them and burn them to ordinary discs. Thing is I keep getting sidetracked doing other stuff so I havent got there yet

I should have made the title of this thread Converting CAVS Super CDG to standard CG+G.

I contacted Powerkaraoke and they answered my question lightening fast. Their software will not convert CAVS disks to standard CD+G files.

Well, I did a bunch of searching around on the internet and there is not a lot of information about converting from the CAVS MCG format to CD+G.

CAVS sells a program to convert CD+G files to CAVS format, but apparently they don't seem to want you to convert their format to CD+G.

I did find a link on the autokj web site for a utility that can convert CAVS MCG format to CD+G, but the link doesn't work.

morgan, I looked into Roxbox a while ago and I REALLY did not like the program. I deleted the demo from my computer, but I do appreciate the information, thank you.

CAVS has a couple of Karaoke player programs listed on their web site that will play CAVS files, CD+G files, CAVS Super CD+G discs, CD+G disks and regular MP3 music files. One program is $49 and the deluxe is $69. The program is made to look like a Karaoke machine on the screen so it's very intuitive. It has both key change and tempo change features as well as a graphic equalizer.

So, at this point I'm still looking for a program to convert CAVS MCG files to standard CD+G files or I will be buying one of their Karaoke player programs.

Ok, just looked one more time at the CAVSUSA web site and they have a Decoder program that will convert their MCG to CD+G. I answered my own question.

If anyone out there has a CAVS machine and wants to convert to PC here is your solution. You can copy your CAVS disks to your hard drive and then convert them to standard CD+G format that will play with any Karaoke software.

Ok, morgan, I looked at the kjamp/Roxbox website and you are so right. They have a program that will not only convert CAVS files but also NEO files. I should have investigated when you first mentioned it. thanks again

Or you can check out CDGFix 3.5. Not only can you convert scdg & neog to cdg,
you can also create an INX and mcg.mpp3 files for your CAVS.
Although you answered your own question, cavs ips manager leaves much to be desired.
As you will soon learn the New Cavs IPS Manager is Too Slow!
CDGFix is MUCH faster.

CDGFix has a setting that will load a SCDG Disc in about three seconds, if not FASTER!
When I say, "Load" I mean Ready for Export, not just a list appearing!
Export it to your HD in various formats.

For Home use, I enjoy the CAVS 203G USB. I loaded 1,000's of tracks into an
external hd as mcg.mp3 files with an INX. Now I don't need a Songbook, everything
is displayed on screen.

Wow, thank you very much swoop, I will check out CDGfix. I am waiting right now to receive 3 CAVS disks I got off ebay. The three disks contain over 2500 songs. Two disks with a total of just over 1500 songs are Pioneer recordings according to the ebay listing-PI01 and PIO2- and the third disc is a Magic tracks disk with over 1000 songs.

The magic tracks disk has 7 or 8 Lynyrd Skynyrd songs and a few other songs which alone make the disc worth the $20 I paid for it. The other 1000+ songs on that disc are a bonus as far as I'm concerned.

What I think is happening is that people are copying their collections and then they think, "what do I need this disk for?" so they sell them off. Same thing with CDs. People are selling CD collections after ripping them. For me as a mobile DJ and future Karaoke host I want those disks as proof that I bought my collection and that its not pirated. Even though I won't be carrying the physical disks in with me, I'll still have them or if I want to do a show with disks because my computer is down I'll have that option too.

Y'know I was thinking about it and even as impressive as it may be, the CDGfix program would cost me $70 to convert 3 disks. Would you do that?

Doesn't seem like a good deal to me. As great as the program might be I can't justify spending $70 just to convert the files on 3 disks. I would rather put that towards buying a CAVS machine that I could use week after week and that I could use to play ALL of my disks on. I already have an external HD that I can use with it if I get a USB model.
