I am in a heavily KJ saturated area.   A house system will take a lot of upkeep in trying to stay with the new songs.  Most bar owners don't realize the expense it takes to keep the singers happy.  And a stand in "i think i'm a KJ" doesn't know what to do 99% of the time.   They play music and turn on the microphone and they stand around.  No mixing or over mixing.    If you have been doing this any length of time you have seen them come and go.  You know what it takes to be a good KJ verses one that just acts like one, without the desired results.

A bad KJ is worse than having none at all. LMAO

Sad thing about this is that it takes the same amount of time for a really crummy karaoke show to die as it takes a really good one to get going....and it seems owners don't correlate well.  Good show takes a while to get going. Bad show takes a while to die. I've ended up, more times than I want to think, going into a place that has made a really bad mistake with 'krappyoke' and I tell them it might take SIX MONTHS or more to bring it back to what it should be and better.  I'll spend a couple of years bringing in an incredible amount of money for them and then move on for any number of reasons. I laugh because those people who enjoyed the two years of my service will continue to roll in and find i"m not there and roll out...but there are so many of them that it might take 3 mos for all of them to come in, see I'm not there, stay for an hour or two, and then roll out. So on the surface it seems like maybe it'll fly with someone who isn't as good at what they do ... but in the end, the place is empty again....and they'll give a million reasons as to why but never the real reason...Poor karaoke doesn't work ANYWHERE, and really good karaoke will work ANYWHERE YOU PUT IT.  And, of course, you get what you pay for.

For some unknown reason bar owners just love to pay for krappyoke.  They think they can save money with the cheaper KJ.  Yeah they can save money on the KJ but they lose it on lack of steady attendance.  You are right, they never seem to know what the problem was.  Oh yeah, i tried karaoke before.    Karaoke is dieing.  Yes it is... in your bar, with your cheap KJ.   May as well cut your check book in half because you will only need half of it.   There won't be any money clogging up the trasnsactions.   Like stated, it works fine when you get what you pay for.   Good KJs always seem to have big steady crowds and steady work.

A good KJ following a crowd killing KJ, is like the coroner calling for the EMTs after the autopsy.   Nobody can bring back the dead.

And that.... is why i want $200 a night. :O
