The singers will end up making more money per night than you do.

I leave it up to the customers if he or she want to accept the offer. Haven't had to many after that. I tried that one and the person took the money, but it made 4 or 5 people behind that person mad when I did it so it backfired. Never did that again. My response is "we run a fair rotation, I'm gonna act like I didn't hear that and put you in the normal rotation" If they repeatedly offer it or get abusive I just say "Should I Pull Your Requests or will you be singing in rotation with the other folks? It should not be; if A wants to jump the line and he is number 10 in line, he pays his way up by taking the place of B who is 2nd in line. B then moves to position 10. Those in between will not get affected.
A straight swap technically wouldn't affect the rotation, however it would seem that customers that didn't understand this would still get ticked because they are seeing so & so singing AGAiN before them.
I think the scenerio that was outlined was there was no swap, they placed the jumper in before the guy the jumper paid then the guy that was paid still got to sing right after - way I interpreted it.

Some nights the Karaoke Police....you know the ones...just look like you are going to skip them and they start sounding off. You can have a 35 person rotation and they can keep track of exactly when their turn is coming up and instinctively know you are going to slight them. LMAO
I just learned not to make any changes to the rotation at all. No bribes period!
Now when I do a private party....that's totally different most of the time it's perfectly acceptable. I always have the person ask the Host of the party if it is ok, and if it is well it's ok with me

I'm looking for suggestions on how to turn down (basically sober) people without using a lot of words and it should be a response that will minimize the possibility
Sorry, I can't. I've gotten in too much trouble in the past.
(this doesn't mean you wish to, or do not wish to, they can't refute this and assuming they do, they are making trouble)
Only time a took bribes years back was when my boss told me I had too because (so and so) was a HUGE spender, and good for their business. I did what the boss told me to do.

Lately, i have been getting a lot of new faces. They must be use to 5 singer rotations because every 5 singers they want to know when they are up. Well get use to waiting an hour between songs. When i tell them that it will be that long, i get some really surprised looks.

As I said in my last post, I liked the idea of having the bribe money paid to the singer who the briber would be replacing. I also stated, and Jian made the same comment, that it is only fair that the singer relinquishing their turn (the bribee) switch places in the rotation with the briber.
In consideration of Lonman's point that if the briber has already sung others seeing him/her getting up again might get pissed, I will make an announcement explaining how the bribe worked.

When the rotation is long they are already getting mad about it taking so long. A bribe of any type paid to me or the singer is only going to add fuel to their fire. I'm trying to keep things calm and a bunch of angry singers, even if they do or don't know what just happened won't be good.

I myself have no intrest in cash, but this will get a song bumped up a bit. I had one venue that this was normal so I just had to go along with how it had always worked.

1 hour between singers is normal for my Friday and Saturday nights. It's usually a madhouse.

The "briber" does not replace 1 person in the rotation he affects them ALL ---unless someone is taken out of that rotation all together. Than it becomes more of a SWAP and and insertion not a JUMP

Try 90-120 minutes between singers. Our Fri-Sat nights are nuthouses. I would LOVE a 60 minute rotation.

3 weeks ago the first rotation was 2 1/2 hours. If you stayed all night you sang 2 times. If you left you sang once. 40 singers at least. I lost count. Way too many singers. Everyone in the bar just kept looking around and wondered where everyone came from. Good for the bar owner, bad for the singers.
I keep getting singers that can't wait 5 songs and they think you are skipping them. I don't know where they go to sing that much on a regular basis. Must not be a very good KJ to attract so little singers consistantly.

Should i be compensated a little extra to take care of you the way you want to be taken care of? You know it's still extra work for me to keep adjusting the queue. Maybe i should just say, once it's in, it's in and there will be no changes.
Was the 40 singer a fluke?

No & yes.
You must learn to read better. The quote says 10 singers that want to change their songs during the night. Not 10 singers total.

I've learned to turn the mic on when I see the guy or gal coming at me with the money. This way the whole house hears it. I usually say, "Tell ya what, go up to the bar and buy the house a round and I ask them if it's ok for me to bump you up. The crowd get's a laugh and the person with the money usually get's mad and leaves or learns to wait their turn.

that's an old favorite of mine too, Kelly and Morgan! I love the money like anybody, but a tiny tip won't justify the amount of c r a p I get from my singers if they get bumped BACK.
