Just wondering what people do as KJs for the end of the show after the last singer....

Personally at the end of my shows I have begun playing classical music songs (instrumental only).  This is after closing time, usually I will get a couple of songs in in the time I package up my tvs and microphones.

I feel that by playing "dance" or other music some of the patrons will keep "partying" and the bartenders will have a harder time getting them to leave. However a few minutes of Motzart tends to clear the room without leaving sudden silence.

Since most of my crowd are younger and few will openly admit to liking good classical music (many are into various types of rock), it is a clear break for the night and an indication of "time to go home".

Depends on the night & the mood of the bartenders.  If they say it's ok, i'll play music, usually with the bartender request first.  If they say to hang it up for the night, I say thank you & shut it down.  If anyone asks, the bartender will turn the jukebox up.
Then I usually hang & party with the crowd until kick out time.

I'll usually throw on a few "Original Footage" karaoke videos, after of course the mics have ben pulled.

After the last song the amp goes off then the computer and the wires get unplugged.  I did my time.  If they want more music and the bartenders let them play the jukebox, doesn't matter to me.   Usually they have to start chasing pople out.

The women usually want to dance and to end the night with positive energy I always give them 2 dance videos / songs, ONLY 2, and they know this, I will not go over 2. I have a pretty good crowd of getting out when they are suppose to go.

:D

The Bar i'm at stays open til 4am and i'm usually done by 3am unless we're really slammed. I end the show with a reggae song, remind them to tip the bartenders and servers, and keep the mood upbeat and danceable hoping we can sell another round of drinks for the dancers, as i load up the lights, props, and tvs. The bartenders aprreciate the little gesture to try and sell more alcohol and make them more tips.

GOODNIGHT SWEETHEART by the Spaniels
it has become a tradition at my shows that everyone loves
and it's even better when there's a real bass in the group

there's a great mp3 out there called "get the F*&^ OUT!"

Hysterical to close the show with it (in a bar setting).

I used to use "Closing Time" as well, and play a good video as I'm tearing down the singing equipment. Then it's two mins after that and I'm D.U.N. Done! LOL!

I started singing "Avalon" by Roxy Music torwards the end of a karaoke party and a few people started to leave.  After i made sure it wasn't because of my voice, people thought I was trying to "tell them something" with the lyrics of the song.  So that might be a good one to end things with....

I think the song you're talking about is "CLOSING TIME" by Red Peters
HYSTERICAL ....in the right setting !!!

I'll play that song if I run OT and its towards "kick out time" - otherwise it depends on the crowd , sometimes it is some upbeat HIP HOP or KICK A Country music
I get a varied crowd in on Saturdays and I'll never know which on is to show up .

My limit is 2-3 songs while I wrap wires and store books and shut down the TV's etc etc.

Since we run right until closing, I yell out that the bar is closed, thanks for showing up, PEACE!!!!

The bar is still mostly still full at 2:30 AM so I never sing. In fact I never usually sing after the first round. If then. I'm taking a customer's place if I do. I don't have to... I've got cred with the room because I've been singing and fronting bands in this area and they know me. This one is their show.

My show ran until closing and what we would do is announce last call for alchohol, last pool game, last dart game, and last singer.  We would then turn up the lights after the last singer and play songs like Happy Trails or other don't let the door hit you in buttocks songs.  Or just songs that are really slow and boring.

I open my show with 3-4 rock, country or pop songs, run karaoke 'til about 1-1:10, then close out my show with 2-4 bumps (dance) songs.  I keep to this format every night.  People come in for last call just for the dance tracks, especially on Friday.  People crave consistency.
