...the better you'll sound
...the better I'll sound
...the easier it will be for you to get up to sing
I have strong opinions about not suggesting to people at karaoke shows that drinking improves the environment, and it has nothing to do with drinking and driving. I don't want people to drink to excess before they get up to sing because (choose one or several):
- they'll probably sound worse
- they won't be able to read the words
- they'll probably come to believe that they can only get up with a few "strong ones" under their belt, etc
- they'll do something ridiculous when they get up, like tell you that you put the song on in the wrong key, or that you're playing it too fast, or
I want people to find the "courage" to get up because it's all in fun. I want them to feel that everyone supports one another and that they should just get up and "do it" and enjoy themself! Etc etc
What do you think?
PS I just really detest the phrase "liquid courage". Besides being so trite now, it does set the wrong tone IMHO

After 4 beers I start losing my confidence because I know I am not at my best. But after 4 beers I dont care either.
If you cant sing sober then you have no business singing. It is the same for playing pool or darts. You are not better when you are drunk!!!

None of my singers sound better after a few. And I'm up front with 'em. They'll ask "Don't I sing better..." and I say "No you don't!"
Some can still carry a tune, some can't. But what all the heavy drinkers have in common is dragging. And I mean really dragging. It's universal and kind of surprised me when I started out doing karaoke. Everyone does it. The line will already to the next one and they can sometimes get as far as two lines back. The track will finish and they are still on the last half of the chorus.
I'm a recovering alcoholic and am not shy about sharing my experience strength and hope with those who are willing to listen. The thing I'm proudest about in this room is that two have stopped drinking. We have this little group of sober singers.
The bar has no problems with this. They are doing good, and are just happy I show up.
And I'm probably talking too much because I'm really bored sitting here ripping CDs...

Two weeks ago a singer came up to the 'stage" holding a full glass of beer (16oz or larger). He held the glass at his side throughout the song. By the time he finished singing, his glass was pretty much empty. They began to mop the floor before he was done!
Last week my wife intercepted a different glass (lol) from the same singer before he started singing.

I'm not a good singer, just ok, but I've been told I sing better after about 2-4 drinks. I think after I go over 4 though it goes downhill pretty fast. Usually I try to drink no more than 15, errr I mean 5.

If the words seem slow, take a drink and relax; your nervous. IF the words seem too fast; you've had too much to drink. AND, if you see me drinking; odds are you probably don't need to be singing drunk OR sober.

I think a couple helps but at the end of the night people get up who are WAAAAAY too drunk. They think they sound good but everyone else is 'squirming' in there seats waiting for the song to end.
