I know that most of you are aware of this type of scam, but I figured I would post it anyway. This way, you can be on the look-out for it....
I received these 2 e-mails about 3 hours apart. They didn't even change the wording. I already sent a response back, asking if he had Super Poweres or something, because I was wondering how he planned to make it to both of his Wedding Ceremonies on time....
I have altered the adreeses, so that you can see what address sent them

The same person can't be getting married that friday night and having the reception simultaneously in CA and NY. He received them three hours apart, and there's a three hour time difference between CA and NY meaning it's bulk spam

OMG, I laughed when I read it. I would just delete it. Why bother responding. It's like those other internet scams floating around. Mfume Inwaysee from Nigeria no doubt.

The actual scam is the part where he states that he will send you a check (or money order) that will be made out for a figure that's higher than the deposit should be, and that you will receive instructions on where to send him back the difference. The check or money order would be counterfeit (sp?), and by the time your bank finds out that the the have a bad check, they then contact you for the money back (the money you have withdrawn to pay back the excess deposit). It doesn't matter that you did not know the check was bad. You are still liable for it.

Is there some kind of form letter out there that these people use, or do they really think I'm that dumb!!!???
I just reposted my Ad in CraigList.com, and I received this e-mail today. It is almost identical to the ones I listed at the beginning of this thread. At least this time, it's not signed by Thomas Jefferson....

It might not be every day that you get married, but in this case, it looks like every month.... and sometimes twice in the same day. ![ROFL2 ROFL](./images/smilies/ices_rofl.sml.gif) MFAO!!!!
I decided to paly along this time. I sent the guy a reply back. I told him that I don't DJ, but if he is considering Karaoke at his reception, that "I'm THE MAN!!!" I then filled in my Name, Address, and phone number.
I want to see what happens next. If he sends me a bogus check through the USPS, I might be able to get an Inspector on the case....
Yeah Yeah... I know, I know!!!! But I still believe in the Tooth Fairy!!!

this scam has reached epidemic proportions. when they approach a venue they ask that they book all travel and accommodation for overseas guests. They send the money in bulk to cover everything up front then they cancel. All is paid by credit card, the money is sent back to them minus cancellation fee which may well be taken from you by fraud squad if you happen to fall for it.
A friend of mine is a weddingplanner and she got stung.
We have had the odd email at the hotel for both wedding scam and holiday tour scam

You can still report it to the State Attorney General. Isn't that Phising? Isn't that illegal?
I just saw something that said you should never acknowledge them (reply) because them they know the have a legit Email address. And they could do something with it or maybe to it. Just right click them always and delete them.

You should have told him you charge $10,000 a show. Send the payment promptly to reserve your date. "Cash" only, no personal checks. ![LMAO LMAO](./images/smilies/emot-LMAO.gif) LMAO Because you can't be too careful these days. ![Surprise :O](./images/smilies/emot-eek.gif)

I not worried about that. It's a YAHOO free e-mail account that I never use (created in the Public Library years before I had a PC, and then subscribed to AO-HELL). What could they possibly do with it. It has no address book set up, and any personal information (Name, Address, Phone Number), I just supplied to them in my response to bait them to return with a reply back to me.
As for the Attorney General, they're like the Police.... Unless I have been a victim of a crime, they won't do a thing. I had to correct the Police Officer who I approached with a copy of the e-mail I received.... He asked me if I was a victim, and I told him that I already knew this was a SCAM, so I was not a victim, just a potential target/mark. He then told me that they are only "Proactive" (which he further stated, that meant I had to be a victim in order for them to act upon it). I then corrected him and stated that that is being REACTIVE, not PROACTIVE, because you are only acting in reasponse to the actual crime once it is committed. I told him that PROACTIVE means you will do anything you can to prevent this crime from occuring.
