Doea anybody know of a brand of PC speakers which can handle live vocals?

Nope.

I don't know why you would opt for such a thing, but without knowing your application, I can't say. I have to assume it is practice, because such a setup isn't suitable for anything else.

I can tell you that even a normal-voiced singer should be able to sing unamplified with PC speakers for an accompaniment. Also, since practice with amplification should give you work on your mic technique, it wouldn't help you since you couldn't get any realistic feedback.

Buy a little, cheap PA like:

Add a decent $20.00 mic like the XM-8500, and a good mic cable (because cheaping out on cables isn't cheap) and get something useful.

It is not the brand of the PC but the sound card and the software that come with it.

It is more design for recording but there are people who successfully use it for karaoke.

I use the Audiophile 192 from M-Audio, very similar to the E-Mu product in my karaoke computer.
