![LOL LOL](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif) ...i am getting tired of singing the same songs...i have some that i really love, (two out of three aint bad, livin on a prayer, callin baton rouge) i just need to fing some new ones...The first problem is i get really nervous when i try out o new one, the second problem is i need some good upbeat songs, and i am consistantly drwn more to the slower ones...any ideas????
here is a recording of my singing god blessed the broken road
http://www.singsnap.com/snap/r/bdf1fcbb
I know i am not the greatest singer, but i have fun with it, and would like to find some songs that people could really enjoy, even if it is mediocre...

Seems like you have similar range to guys like Richard Marx and Bryan Adams? They did some great "quicker" songs that still have a lot of familiarity for the crowd. Lead singer from Maroon 5 has a marginally higher range and they have some really nice newer stuff. Glycerine by Bush? Love that song. Maybe Don Henley, who also has a fairly high range - End of the Innocence, Dirty Laundry, both songs with good beats. Billy Joel definitely has a range that is higher and he has some wonderful songs.
I know what you mean about the gravitating to slower songs - I know when my soul is in need of a minor repair, if I sing a few nice slow songs I feel energized and ready to pick up and run again. But I sing them for me, not the crowd ... I just tell them to go to the bathroom or up to the bar to order a drink, that I'm indulging myself, but the next one will be for them....
I'm always on the search for new stuff, too...I often will go to Napster or one of those sites and listen to some of the current releases and find new songs there that I NEVER would have found otherwise.
Have fun in your search!
K

Like Karen, I love it when I see Glycerine come up on a slip, but unfortunately it's not a big people mover, at least in my room.
Biggest non hiphop-rap new number for guys where I host is Beautiful Girls (Sean Kingston). If you really want to step out of your box, and you have a young group that you want to sing along with you... and you want people to dance, give it a shot. Anyone under 30 knows the chorus and will probably join in. Don't worry about getting the accent (no one does in my place but they still love it) just sing it. Here's a Youtube link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lt6o8NlrbHg
For more traditional non-country stuff... yeah Bryan Adams (Summer of 69), Hurts So Good, Fat Bottom Girls, any AC/DC... the usuals...
I see this over and over, and it's sad. Singers that sing their hearts out on a ballad and the the room just tunes them out. Then someone gets up and does Baby Got Back and the place comes unglued. That's karaoke for you.

How about " Somebody Told Me " by The Killers, it's only a few years old, upbeat and short and not too hard to do. I have had pretty good luck with it. I agree Maroon 5 songs are popular with the younger crowd.
Velvet revolver, Audioslave, if your range is high enough Journey songs are really popular. Funny thing about Journey is, everybody has heard the songs a million times and so everyone will sing along a lot of times. I need to do more Journey myself. They have this little thing called a key changer........but that is another topic! Rudy.

"Beautiful Girls" was just a suggestion because it's really working in my room right now. If you're singing to an older or country oriented group than it's probably not a fit because they won't know it. But it was number one for a number of weeks on the pop charts last fall and was in relentless rotation on VH1, so anyone who listens to today's music would instantly recognize it. It's really a fairly traditional song. It sounds a lot like "Stand By Me" if you listen to the rhythms and chord changes.
Maroon5... I sing "Makes Me Wonder" but it doesn't go over as well as most of my other stuff, much to my disappointment because I like the song. I have a regular who does "This Love" and gets good response though. I'd choose that one if you are going to do Maroon5. It's a littler older and more familiar.

Then resist your temptation to do Meatloaf. The only people that like Meatloaf are the ones singing it. The rest of the room takes a break to the cans or to the bar.
At least in my room.
Including me.

I did like Beautiful Girls, but i tried it on singsnap and didnt feel the flow very well, but we will see. "this Love" has been on my song list for the last couple of weeks, but it is still a work in progress.

Jimmy Eats World " The Middle " is a higher range and upbeat cool song. Little Black back pack is another cool song. "A little respect" by Erasure, fun song. Karma Chameleon, for some reason that song always does good, maybe because a tall and straight 45 year old mexican is singing it! Mr. Brightside is another cool song, a bit over done around here, but I don't know about your area. Even though I gravitate towards rock oriented music I do several of the songs I mentioned because they are fun crowd pleasing songs. Good luck, Rudy.

Yeah... both "The Middle" and "Mr Brightside" go over well in my place too.
I don't personally sing "Beautiful Girls" btw. If a song's sung by others I leave it to them. There are just too many songs... and too little time...
And not making too big a deal of this... the only reason I thought of it was because you wanted something new to sing. By far...BY FAR the most popular songs in my room are hip-hop and raps. And this isn't some urban room. We're suburban semi-rural.
But if Meatloaf works in your singing establishment go with stuff like that. Every room is different.

Some great suggestions here, like Little Black Backpack. By the way, you are a good singer with a higher range. I'd suggest some Train, Tonic, Blues Travelers, Good Charlotte, Fall out Boy, The Killers, Savage Garden, etc. A couple songs that come to mind that I think would work well for you that are fast/upbeat would be Wolfmother Woman and Counting Crows Mr Jones. R&B? How about 112 Peaches & Cream? Big crowd pleaser.

I listened to your Rascall Flatts on Singsnap and I agree with Bill H. your voice would be perfect for Beautiful Girls.

On that note, what about Life Is A Highway? Train songs: I have Cab; Calling all Angels; Drops of Jupiter; Free; Get to Me; Give Myself to You; I Am; Meet Virginia (I sing this often); Respect; She's on Fire; Something More; and When I Look Into the Sky. Ordinary is also available. I would imagine For Me its You and Save the Day may also be available, but I can't find them immediately.
