More or less not much happening. Not much on my mind to speak of, but pfft. Today was a loss. I haven't gotten anything done lately, but I guess it doesn't bother me. That's how it is. I've basically been doing nothing worth mentioning. I've just been staying at home waiting for something to happen. What can I say? My life's been pretty bland. I haven't been up to much today, but such is life. Nothing seems important, but shrug. I guess it doesn't bother me. So it goes. What can I say? Eh. I've just been letting everything wash over me these days. Not much on my mind worth mentioning. My mind is like a fog. I haven't been up to anything these days. I can't be bothered with anything. Pretty much nothing seems worth thinking about, but oh well. I guess it doesn't bother me. More or less not much noteworthy happening today. Maybe tomorrow.

A chirping cricket in an empty pail or small barrel can make the most melodic or god awful noise there is. It is amplified and has natural FX.
Maybe yall need to start taking a bucket to karaoke.
Next we will be arguing which is best plastic or tin or aluminum. ![LMAO LMAO](./images/smilies/emot-LMAO.gif)

I thought tin was very fine gaged aluminum.
Best means of cricket reverberation is 55 gallon drums made of aluminum.. Crickets in wooden barrels tend get boosted bass response but cricket frequencies don't project as well in wood as they do with metal for reverberation. Large cement stairwells also are excellent for arena-like cricketverb

Actually....I like the verb found in old country deep water wells
The water actually helps keep from having that dull barrel sound, it's more crisp and somehow has a cleaner sound
okay.....Sorry!!! I couldn't resist... :spin: :rotflmao:

Quote: An example of an empty barrel?
This is usually what is referred to when the term barrel is used. Round, wood, and usually contains something. Empty means just that.. The term "empty barrel" is often used as an analogy for "Emptiness", "I have nothing", "I am empty emotionally", etc. Barrel can also be "gun barrel" but it all depends on context used.
Western culture tends to use slangs and analogies Jian.. For instance
I feel like an empty barrel, might mean a person feels hollow, feeling a void, feeling empty.. It's a negative analogy often referring to loss, or the emotional sensation of having nothing inside.

Anyway, this empty barrel stuff for some reason made me think of this song that I always liked. So the Atlanta Rhythm Section in concert in the 70's.

(In fact, I'm gonna sing this over in Singsnap now..hehe)
![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif) I guess I'm not going to

Ever take a good luck at a duck ? Are it's legs actually closer apart ?
Tuesday, afternoon, I'm just beginning to see now I'm on my way,
It doesn't matter to me, Chasing the clouds away. Tuesday afternoon.
Same thing but different because I go out to work on a Monday morning
Tuesday I go off to honeymoon I'll be back again before it's time for
Sunny-down, I'll be lazing on a Sunday afternoon Bicycling on every Wednesday evening
Thursday I go waltzing to the Zoo I come from London town, I'm just an ordinary guy,
Fridays I go painting in the Louvre I'm bound to be proposing on a Saturday night (There he goes again)
I'll be lazing on a Sunday, lazing on a Sunday lazing on a Sunday Afternoon.

Incidently, Empty barrel makes the greatest sound is a Russian Proverb. Similar to the nail that sticks out, gets hammered back in, and the tongue speaks but the head doesn't know.

Speaking of things like empty barrels having a good sound.... Steven, you ever heard of or seen one of these?
Course, this guy doesn't know how to build one properly, but if made right, and played right, you really can't tell the diff between it and a regular upright bass:)

(met a guy at a bluegrass convention who was pretty awesome on one, never missed a note)

I've seen it Charmin, never knew how to construct one tho, and truthfully, given the cost of an upright bass, for apps such as bluegrass or certain acoustic venues, that's actually a great idea... THANKS ! Truthfully, people seem to think because something is so anciet appearing, and basic, it can't work, but those can work because ALL the bass is, is tension on a string, and a source of amplification, and the aluminum bucket works quite well.. Looks like a fun project for a rainy balmy cold day such as today actually !! Probably would work quite well for certain types of jazz, now I can have an excuse of inaccuracy !!
Realistically a trombone is just metal and a slide. An upright bass is just string tension that changes frequency based upon where on an unmarked neck the string is pushed, and some are made of plexiglass, and other materials besides wood..This is really no less legit ! (Tougher to fine-tune granted)
now the washtub bass directions state "just use nylon string", but why couldn't a person rig up something using an acoustic bass string A string ? Perhaps a D string.
Metal on metal would seem that it'd conduct sound quite well, no ?

This guy is amazing too... Check these out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLhRtV1x ... re=related
(this guy is obviously a skilled craftsman however)..
Anyone else notice the airplane in the background ? Wonder if he made that too..
I need to look this guy up, he's either a violin maker, or a skilled luthier/musician. The string instruments he made looked very well crafted !

Well, Steven.... as I said, I don't think that guy knows how to make one. You have to use a #2 washtub:)
And you need to use clothes line string... and you need to make a "pedal" of sorts for the bottom, you
raise it and lower it with your foot (to get it louder or softer). And you need to use a standard mop handle
for the body. And when done, you need to coat the string with bees wax. (or have terribly sore fingers on
your right hand)
Really, sounds funny, but I'm dying to make one of my own. The guy at Weiser gave me a big ol' lecture
on "the proper way to build a washtub bass"... even told me how to go in the store and "tap" on them to
get one with a good tonal quality. Lol... but the guy must have known what he was talking about, cause he
was the best at it I've ever seen. (yeah.... how sad, I've seen more than one in real life, Lol)
