Hello,  I am looking at buying the Acesonic KM-110 from AceKaraoke however I'm having a hard time finding reviews on the thing?  Has anybody used it or know how well it works?  I'm looking at home use only and this is what I have so far;

Dell Vostro 1500 laptop (well, just bought it and its on the way)
Denon receiver

So I'm also looking at buying two Shure PG48's also from AceKaraoke.  Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Robert

I bought one for my partner's daughter, and it works. If you are at all discerning, I would recommend against it. You will very shortly want somethng better.

I would personally go for the Behringer XM-8500 instead of the PG-48. Better sound and a lower price. If you buy a Shure, go for the SM-58, which is my favorite mic.

You are going to want some speakers, too. I don't know how much power your receiver puts out, but if it is 100w/channel you can use the MTX  TP-112 speaker. Most of the other speakers you hear about here need too much power for a home receiver.

But if you really like karaoke and want to put on parties or do it at functions outside the home, you might also consider nixing the all of the above and going to a small PA system. You can get a Phonic PowerPod 620 for $299, and it will have mixer, amp, and speakers. Add a $20.00 XM-8500 mic and some cables, and you are in business. This is my recommendation -- I wish I had done that.

Dang.  I was hoping you were going to say that the KM-110 was THE home unit to get... LOL  yeah like everything nobody has the same expectations on certain things and I really don't not see myself doing anything other then in my living room hehehe  I know that many have said that before so I'm trying to keep an open mind :)
I did a quick search on the PowerPod 620, dang! if I could, I would!  it does look like a nice starter set.  Couple of problems... limited space and it looks big... :(  I found a package deal for $299.99 that included some speakers however they where also huge, I have some Polkaudio speakers connected to my Denon and they work okay for now... better then the t.v. speakers? LOL The other issue is shipping.  Shipping to Alaska is horrid.  $299.99 was the price I found for this kit with "free shipping" so I called to get a shipping quote, $216 was my only option :)  Dang if I only knew someone on the way to AK that could bring it with them because shipping is free to anywhere within the 48 :) Hehehehe
I will be switching to the XM-8500 as the lower price sounds good thanks!

Any other thoughts on a mixer then? Looks like I could get a Behringer XENYX 802 shipped fairly cheap via Amazon?  Thanks for the info!

Robert

Careful with karaoke & those nice home theater speakers, you don't want to blow them with live vocals!  If you can find a separate karaoke system, either an all in one unit or the system as mcky outlined, you'd be better off.

You will want the 1002FX, not the 802. The FX means there is an effects processor, which you will want.

If you could wait until May, I would bring you an Alesis MultiMix USB. I am about ready to
stop using that on my home system (replacing it with a Yamaha).

Hi Lonman, me and my family have been very careful, and or lucky? depending on how you want to look at it hehehe  we have used two different "Magic" microphones in all three of our respected houses for longer then I care to admit and haven't run into any problems.  However there have been those nights that we all are having a good time and someone turns up the volume then someone else turns up the volume... next thing you know its 11:30 ish and everybody singing their lungs out! hehehe  I would love to buy a starter kit with dedicated speakers and amp nice big mixing board mic stands... but we all live in smaller ish houses, mine being the smallest:( and we take turns having family night diners and darts and karaoke LOL  Spring is here so if it ever warms up we'll start throwing shoes again!  I am going to start saving up though and try to get a separate amp/speakers.... but this bill comes up... then that bill... I'll keep trying though... thanks for the info I appreciate it!

Hi mckyj57, I think I'll look into the 1002FX now that you mention it my sister in-law could use all the FX I can throw at her... *ducks and runs...  that was one of the funniest things listing to her sing at the "Bar" without her "Magic" mic and the FX cranked up... I didn't have enough drinks in me to keep a strait face...  LMAO the look on her face as the confusion took over and she gazed at the monitor on the floor... I know what she was thinking too... "is there's something wrong with their mic?" lol it was a classic moment.  She may not sing well, but she tries and its all about having fun :)  I was worried that the crowd was going to be not so nice but in the end it turned out ok.  We the family cheered for her and blocked out the snobby regulars hehehehe
Oh and keep your vacation just that, a vacation :)  Your advice here on the board is plenty help and I greatly appreciate it!  there is no way I would ask you to bing something up, you are very generous for even offering.  Thanks again for your help.

Hey just an update and a thank you to all the awesome people here on this site that have helped me and others out!
I just placed an order for a Behringer 1202FX, and a couple of XM8500s!
There is a post here that talks about going to your pawn shop and I did that too however everything there looks like it came through a time warp from the 80’s however is still priced as high as new stuff of today.  And my local pawn shop really didn’t have much… one really old looking FX and one Radio Shack mixer and some really really old looking speakers and that’s about it.  I did hear about someone that does local privet parties and weddings and such that is looking to sell his speakers to upgrade so I trying to track that down.  Thanks again for the help!
