Hi,

New to the forum and have been reading the post in the past few days. It is a great forum to get the karaoke related information. Here is my question:

I am setting up a Karaoke system and not sure what to do with the mixer I have now - Behringer 802. It does not have any effects, so the voice is plain and dry. Should I use it with external effect like Lexicon MX200 ($120~$150) on EBay with 802 or just forget about it and buy another Behringer like 1202FX for about $110? My major condern is the the voice quality of the mixer. Does it make any difference on sound quality between different models or just the add-on features? Anybody has the experience?

You would have better sounding effects or more effect options going with the external Lexicon!

Definitely go with the Lexicon. I am using a table-top rack now (as opposed to one that weighs 125 pounds, on wheels) and in the interest of saving space, am now stuck with using built-in effects on the latest Mackie - I also sacrificed mids on vocal adjustment with this board (you can adjust highs and lows only). Won't do that again. If/When I find another rack that has more space I'll pull the outboard effects out of the other rack and incorporate it with this one. (Seems like I"m doing too much "live and learn" lately...)

I love my Lexicon MX200.  The 1202FX will get you more mic inputs and a monitor speaker capability, but the effects are nowhere near as good as the Lexicon.

I agree that if you add an external unit that just does EFFECTS  it would be the best alternative.  I use a Behringer 1222FX - 99 effects  / 3 band channel EQ  /plus a 7 band EQ --- AGAIN  not the ulitmate best  --But a good mixer that has all the features and inputs you will ever need in 1 affordable rackable unit all for $200

Or you can use a $500 mixer a $300 15 band EQ a $300 Effects unit

Its a personal choice , one way is affordable with good sound and the other is a little more expenisve  with a better overall sound.    You can drive a Chevy or you can drive a Caddilac ...personal choice.....,NOT RIGHT OR WRONG

Thanks for all your replies. It seems to me that adding an external effect is the way to go. I might want to upgrade the mixer in the future but keep the effect.

I just found some local posting for sale on the effects. There are so many choices and I am getting lost as a newbie.  If I need the effect for home use and some occasional parties, what do you think of the following:

Lexicon MPX-100 $50
Lexicon Alex $35
Lexicon MX200 $180

I did... same model I first started out with. FX died on me within a month!

It happens to the best of them !   I've been using mine for awhile without a problem.
I've heard horror stories about all brands from Mackie to Vocopro.

I decided to go with two racks. One four-space on wheels that has my heavy power amp, and one tabletop rack that only has the lighter effects processors. This seems to be the best way to save my back and still provide enough room for me to have the pretty elaborate setup I want.

If you can get the MPX100 for $50, go for it.  Nice little unit, easy to use.

Nothing compares to Lexicon when it comes to reberb, I own the MPX 110, LOVE IT!!

The 110 was the direct replacement of the 100.  SLight difference in the bit, I think it went from 16 to 24 sampling rate.  Otherwise a 100 for $50 is still a great deal, I have one in my current rig as well.
