OK, (better get fresh undies ready, this is sure to empty most bladders)
I'm building to Macy
Singer: Hardly
Song: "Hey, What's going on"
Artist: Four non-blondes..
(this is only a test)
http://www.singsnap.com/snap/watchandli ... y/b5e0ad81
This song has carved it's special claim into the Kappy archives... Up three days with 0 hits !
On a more serious note, I am experimental with different areas, and I decided to attempt to undertake some "raunch" in this kinks rendition. I have no idea if it works, it sounds HORRIBLE to me, yet so did much of Bowie back in the early days too !!! So who knows ? I tried to deviate from "pretty" singing and become more a part of the song, rather than polish it..

and, in all seriousness, I DO listen, and appreciate all of your help and critiquing, and here's an attempt at "Story telling", since all I do is (believe it or not) serious actual attempts, at what ? I dunno..

Billy, my apologies, I never saw this post of your on the 28th, prior to Vickies posts, in fact to be honest, I don't think it existed prior to vickies posts when I responded to her posts !! Sorry again, I honesty JUST saw your post on February 28th for the first time
Quote: other than try to tell u what i think u did and didn't do right r wrong i'll ask u a few questions....
do you feel that u put urself into this song? do you feel you projected ur vocals? power? do you feel ur vocals were weak? were you lazy on some parts? do you feel you made this song yours? do you feel you were on key through out? would you buy this person's cd? would you like to hang the person asking these questions? l.. what is your bank account number? do you feel those panty hose were really too small for you? ur not a size 2 anymore, deal with it
putting myself into the song: I don't know which parts of myself to put into the song verses which parts of myself sound totally repugnant.. This is a problem I have being unable to hear myself, so I lay back.. I don't know what sounds ridiculous vs decent. projecting my vocals: My wishes are to tastefully blend, not to over power the musicians on the track, perhaps this is wrong thinking for a singer though, I don't know what I singer is supposed to do firsthand.. I try to make the whole song more tasteful as opposed to detract from it with negative aspects of my voice.. lazy on some parts, absolutely, I've just relistened to a few songs and my energy certainly does die halfway thru the song, and I become very sloppy, yes, I am noticing that... I get distracted and start daydreaming while singing.. Making the song mine... Don't know how yet BIlly, I'm still trying to do anything BUT that to be honest... regarding staying on key, I'm not focusing on that as much first and second attempts anymore. I'm doing more one-takes now, and trying to get the general song sung experimental just to see what's what... no current goal, just seeing what I can sing, and hopefully others will tell me what NOT to attempt because this is a blind walk for me.. Rather than polishing songs, I'm trying to sing them and not just get thru them, and that requires a little less focus on polish or fine-tuning, so there are spots that are off now, and I'm allowing for that. Buy a CD with a singer sounding like me ? OK, now you are being a comedian (If I don't respond to certain posts, it's unintentional, meaning I didn't see them, not sure what's going on.. This post I am responding to now did not show for me on the 28th of february) I think I'm having some computer probs.. OK, listening to "Wonderful tonight" done last week, I can certainly hear great problems... My voice drops off, gets lazy sounding meaning diction and mouth positioning are forgotten about, my energy dies, or just drops off, blend fades and messes so dynamics must be paid greater attention to, I go off pitch quite a bit... etc.. So you are correct Billy, I need to learn to TRY to listen to me more ! My hopes are bad or good, and I don't know whether this is so, but everything I sing in some way is better than not singing at all since it opens up my voice more ?? Is this true ? and I sing hours and hours per day... Well I think I'm singing anyway Quote: what is your bank account number? savings or checking ? Quote: do you feel those panty hose were really too small for you? ur not a size 2 anymore, deal with it
'no kidding, I wear queen sized now It's the thighs
I think I'm starting to feel a little more confident or getting a little familiar with my voice and how to do certain things with it... range is slowly starting to come just a little, but this is going slow for me.
I'm singing Broadway stuff now
http://www.singsnap.com/snap/watchandli ... y/b9eb814b
I got myself into trouble in this song, but that too is part if this learning process.

Here's an example of a song I tried to cover Dylan, and blend in with the Byrds
http://www.singsnap.com/snap/watchandli ... /b511993f1
Now the interesting contrast about this particular song is that the first two days after singing it I hated it, now it sounds OK to me... Weird eh ? Not sure why that is.

OK. I take it I should cross that one off my list
I'll work more on this type song, but this is a toughy... Yet like Both billy and yourself stated, I can now hear that what is missing in this song I just did is "mood", I'm not getting into it enough, I'm not feeling it, I'm just struggling thru it ! and I think Bread and America ESPECIALLY need story line, and for the singer to FEEL the song

the kinks was cool, you badly need to eq though
get some advice off one of the techs Steven, cos that track has distinct possabilities if you can get your sound sorted

Thank you, the Kinks song was ONE song I actually allowed for ME, and tried to make my own, although I did it with McCartney's type style in mind on some of his second solo album stuff (way way back pre-wings), like on RAM, meaning raunch and less pretty singing...
As to EQ, I agree 100%... I haven't a clue about that either.. and given my voice I have less of a clue.. I'm open to ALL advice in that area too.. Maybe Jian will help me in that area, thing is, he might do something nasty like help me to improve in which case throw our contest so he wins !!

Moody Blues
Voices in the Sky
One take, it works IMO however, it's not a style of my preference, yet as Billy mentioned, I can't have it all my way I spose !

Ok Kappy I sing a lot of bread but I dont sing this one...cos its not an easy song...its like scales to lyrics...if you are gonna try bread then keep to songs give you an odds on chance to be able sing em...eg guitarman, everything I own, make it with you, etc

dont know the song at all...sounds ok but have nothing to compare it to. you are confident on the phrase "voices in the sky" you need to concentrate on making the entire sing confident not just the odd phrase that way the sing gains continuity
