Where do you all get your discs? Who has the CHEAPEST prices online? There seems to be such a huge variability in prices from site to site. Does anyone know where to buy at the BEST prices?

Is Ebay any good? Is there a good place to get used discs?

I will probably get several different answers to this, but what the hey! :)

Ebay is a good place to START buying discs. You can find starter sets and stuff like that there, but once you get the basics out of the way, you won't find much of use there.

I've found that most places tend to charge roughly the same for discs of the same brand. However, the shipping charges are what usually swings it one way or another for me. Often times if I'm shopping for discs, I'll shop them on two or three different sites, and then checkout to see what the totals are. Cheapest price wins! I'm not talkig HUGE money here, but 3-4 dollars enough times over soon becomes real money.

I hear ya, Mike! A few dollars here and a few dollars there can make a big difference for me right now.

I just bought the Priddis Lost Classics 10-Pack. I got it at prosing.com for $199, which was the best price that I found.

Just about everyone here likes Priddis and you can listen to all the songs on their website...that's awesome! The versions sounded very good for the most part!

Oh well, I bet everyone else will just do what me and you do and shop the web.

Thanks for the reply. :)

Several companies will produce custom disks, and include just the songs you want. I've not done this, but I hear good things.
Sometimes "packs" may have a few (or more) songs that won't be used.
Check out our sponser site.

Be careful of e-bay, DO NOT buy from anyone that has any kind of negative feedback or very few feedback. Make sure the positives are in the 98+% ratio. These sellers you can usually trust. Otherwise karaoke.com is where I do most of my shopping, they have deal sometimes better than e-bay.

Thanks Guys,

Like I said, I ordered the Priddis 10-pack from prosing and the price was as good as I could find it.

Everyone raves about the custom-made discs, but at $5 per song I think the price is too high. Maybe I will change my tune ( ) after I start playing out and taking requests from people, and I have to buy a whole disc of songs that no one will sing just to get the one that was requested.

$5 per song. Break this down. If you get a 15 song disc, this will run you $75 for a disc that has "exactly" what you want to sing. A little high it seems, maybe/maybe not.
OK let's look for those same 15 songs on individual discs at say $15 each - being conservative here.
1 song found on 1 disc
2 songs found on another
4 songs found on another
2 songs found on another
5 songs found on another
1 song found on another
OK, now you have 6 discs with those same 15 songs on them plus a bunch of songs that you don't really care about. Total cost $90 - and believe this, that chance are the disc count would be more because it's rare to find a disc with more than 2 songs you ACTUALLY want.
Now if you are buying for your customers, you may want those extra songs that may or may not get sung to fill in the gaps.

when you're first starting out, customs may not make sense, but Lonnie's example clearly shows the logic. HOWEVER, when you're first starting out, and afterbuying the "sets" you have, buying the better discs help... because you are replacing the "okay" versions with the far superior ones.

TOTAL Song count doesn't mean much when you get to OUR stage of the game! LOL!

You were right about a lot of opinions, but they're all right. When I first started I picked up a couple starter type sets off e-bay. After that e-bay wasn't very useful. I got quite a few from karaokebuys.com (who has since gone out of business), and quite a few from karaoke.com. They have always been competative on pricing and very dependable and reliable. They're a good company to work with and do advertise on this site. There is also a lot to be said about the custom discs. That example lonman gave was probably pretty conservative. Even if you're buying for your customers to sing from also, what you might want to consider is asking your customers what they are interested and want that's not in your library. That way you can make sure all 15 songs on the custom disc get their fair share of usage. That ends up making that $75 disc pretty economical.

Great points all around!

I think I am just going to try to get some packages that cover the specific years that I am missing and then make it known to my customers that if I don't have a song, I will get asap. If I get enough requests, say if I waited until 8 or 9 such requests were made, then that custom disc would be really appealing!

I found a website called karaokefreedom.com that sells custom discs for $1 a song but I'm a little leery about it. I'm thinking it's just a guy with a copy of CDRWIN and a burner.

Anyone want to check it out and let us know? If he's legit, it's a great deal!

Actually, I saw a site that had then for $1.99. Probably the sane inferior versions, though, huh Matt?

maybe...

The standard for everyone is $5.00 for Chartbuster, Sound Choice, Sunfly, SingToTheWorld, etc....

I'd be leery of anybody that sells them for less.

At mycdg.com, they offer samples of what they sound like!!

I tried one (1) disk from Karaoke Freedom. I destroyed it and won't get any more, they are sound choice mostly but they are copies and there is no license agreement on the label. You couldn't convince me that these disks are legal and that all of the copywrite issues are in compliance.

Nice Idea, Good Price, but I don't think they're legal. I could be wrong, but if they sell songs for $1.00 each when everyone else sells them for $5.00 each, then something has to be different.

If somebody knows for a fact that they are legal and in compliance with Copywrite laws please let me know, cause the price is right.

Chief

I've ordered customs from mycdg.com (through karaoke.com)
Weird glitch, though.
Those CDs don't stop at the end of the song.
It will play track #3 and continue on to track #4 if I don't catch it quick enough. (...yeah, sometimes I don't)

I use karaoke.com and prosing.
I'll compare prices and shipping. Sometimes one is slightly better than another.
I have a lots of Sunfly, and prosing prices them around $19.
Karaoke.com doesn't carry them anymore.

Also, an interesting fact about Soundchoice pricing (as explained to me by a US sales outlet).
If a karaoke retailer sells SC disks for too low a price, consistantly, Soundchoice will stop wholesaleing to them, as it cheapens the brand. (their perception)

This is why even sale SC items never are drastically discounted.
