Anyone using this sub or have first hand knowledge of it?
I'm really trying to keep the weight and size of my equipment down. I want a sub to round out my sound. I'm not looking to churn people's guts, just make the sound fuller and richer. My 2 EV SX100 speakers sound great and have good bass, but I realize I need a sub. My second choice is the PV118, but it's a lot heavier and a bit bulkier. I only have so much power to deal with too. I want to run everything off my Yamaha EMX512 powered mixer, the (2) 12" EV cabs in mono on one channel and the sub on the other channel, all in bridged mode.

not much help - but since you're using the Yamaha , why not trade those 12" speakers in for 2 Yamaha SV15" - and you won't need a sub.
not being a smart azz but I think your overall system would be smaller instead of hauling in a sub ?

Interesting. Those Yamaha S115V speakers are some of the best sounding I have heard especially in that price range. Problem is they are really heavy and kind of big. I had a pair of the monitor version and I got rid of them because I couldn't see myself carrying around such heavy speakers, especially putting them on stands. My EVs are great speakers even for 12" and I could use them for monitors if I got the Yamahas, they have trapezoidal cabinets.
For now I'd like a compact or light weight subwoofer rather than getting new mains. Even with the S115V speakers I would still want at least one sub for the low end kick and rumble. My EVs put out plenty of quality sound, last time I used them they kept telling me to turn them down. I'm happy with them, I just want to compliment and enhance the overall sound without breaking my back. If I can find a sub that will fit in a car with the rest of my stuff I'll be thrilled. I don't know if such a thing exists.

The Yamahas are heavy , I agree . When I used them I never felt the need for a sub. I know many KJ's here do use subs. It looks like the Peavey PR is one of the only LITE WEIGHT subs available. My opinion would be that LITE WEIGHT and SUB WOOFER don't belong together LMAO LMAO .

I run the Peavey PR-Sub because of the light weight. I combine it with Peavey PR-10 tops, and I think for the 55 pounds of all three speakers (29 sub, 18 each for tops) it cannot be beat.
Will it give you the pounding bass of a pair of high-power 15" tops? No. Will it rival an 18" 120 lb. sub? Of course not. But it sounds real good, about as good as a pair of Tapco Thump and 18" subs.
I overpower it a bit with an EP-2500 -- it only needs 400W and that gives about 550. So I back off on the gain a little for that, and fully power the PR-10s in mono with the other channel. It fills a good size room, with enough bass that the disco dancers love it.

This sounds good as far as weight. But what does the rack weigh? Reason I ask is a few other KJs seem convinced that self-powered speakers is the "weigh" to go.
:) Thanks to all the seasoned pros for their words of wisdom

I went to Guitar Center today to check out some speakers. They surprisingly didn't have the PR sub in the demonstration area. I listened to the Peavey PV118 sub on the same mixer that I own, the Yamaha EMX512 and it was obvious to me that the sub just wasn't getting enough power. I would need a seperate power amp and a crossover too. I'm just not gonna carry that around. I'm trying to keep things simple, light and small not to mention inexpensive since I'm just starting out.
I've heard a pair of EV ZX1 with a pair of EV SB122 subs and that combination is amazing but it's around $1,500. Problem is it's just out of my price range right now. (1) SB122 sub is about $375 + tax. I am going to Sam Ash tomorrow to listen to the Peavey PR subs. If they sound good, I can swing $200 and then another $200 down the road after I do a few gigs. I also got a look at the B52 Matrix 1000 and Matrix 2000. The sub on those is massive and heavy. Didn't get to hear them though.
My only other good choice is a powered subwoofer and they are way too much money for me to spend right now. A powered sub is probably the best way for me to go too and I would only need one most likely, but now we're back to bulky and heavy again.

The power amp weighs some, of course. But the rack weighs about 40 pounds
and is on wheels. I also don't have to lift it onto a stand, or even on a table -- I keep
that four-space rack, with amp and crossover, on the floor. Then I have another
four-space effects rack that is lighter, along with my mixer (either Yamaha MG124C
or Behringer PMH3000).
I don't know if the EMX 512 can run the PR-Sub well or not. Powerwise it seems fine, but I don't know how you would cross it over and feed it back in to the separate channels. I use an active crossover.

Based on what I've read of the specs, the PR has a built in crossover. I would just switch to mono bridged mode and put the two mains on one channel and the sub on another channel, you can even EQ the higher frequencies out using your mixer.
If I had 2 PR subs I would chain a main and a sub together on each side, that's how the Electro-Voice 4 speaker setup was at Sam Ash. This would be a 4ohm, 4 speaker, 500w+500w configuration. In fact the guy at Sam Ash did just that with my EMX512.
The EV SB122 sub has a built in crossover. I may just break down and buy it. I found it on line for $330 to my door. More than I want to spend right now, but I know it's kicka$$. Then I would just get another one down the road to complete the setup. You would be blown away if you heard the combination of the ZX1/SB122 four speaker setup. About half the cost of one Bose with one bass bin. I think my SX100s are louder and more powerful than the the ZX1s. My speakers sell for $429 each, the ZX1 is $285 each and has an 8" speaker, mine has a 12" LF driver and a horn. Then the only thing I would need are the poles.
