There are a lot of speakers out there that are very similar to Pyle. They are poorly made and have cheap components. The crossovers are highly prone to failure, particularly if you drive them anywhere near the rated power...most times they can't take half of the power they rate them for.

Look at SPL rating on these type of speakers "Sound Pressure Level". Most times it will be hard to find. If there is a rating, be aware, that for each 3 points of SPL you will need double the amplifier power to get the same sound level.

An example would be, a cheap set of 12" 3 way speakers I have that have an SPL of 91 dB, compared to a high quality set I have that are rated at 126dB SPL. The differencce of 35 dB SPL means that the cheap speakers would need almost 12 times the power to deliver the same sound pressure level as the 126 dB SPL speakers.

This is a very important measurement, it will define amplifier choice as well.

Generally speaking the higher quality speakers will have a higher SPL.

I guess that's why my Electro-Voice speakers are sooooo good.

I understand the dilemma. It's tough when folks have limited funds and they want to get equipment, been there, done that. I've learned the hard way about cheap speakers. My rule of thumb now, Electro-Voice, Peavey, Yamaha and a couple others-you can't go wrong. For those manufacturers it's hard to go wrong. You'll pay more, sometimes 2 or 3 times more, but you'll get great sounding, durable stuff that will last and be reliable. with that said, there is still the allure of the great deal. Problem is, the great deals seldom are. Inexpensive wireless mics are the exception, < < ...

I just found out that a friend who bought some speakers is looking for new ones because they just don't sound that good. His buddy brought his Peaveys to a gig and the difference was so large that he decided to trash his -- and I discovered they are Pyles.

I am going to lend him my Behringer B1520s, since I am doing gigs at his place all summer and I don't use them much anyway.

 Weed, Known you for awhile and respect you, BUT:  If the midrange is weak, why the heck would you use them for karaoke where midrange (vocal) is king?
