One of my daughter's works at a Senior Care Facility and I am going to be going up there to put on a 2 hour show once a month. They'll give me enough for gas and I get to visit my daughter, so it's a win/win situation.  I need to find a source for music that people 70 and older would appreciate.  I thought I had plenty of older songs in my book, but when sorting them out, found there wasn't as many as I thought.

Please consider that people at the younger end of age "group" you mentioned, were about twenty when Elvis hit the scene.  So I'm not sure what type of music you think you need to add to your catalog?   IMO, while Jian's list is a good one, I would be surprised if you don't already have those artists in your catalog?

Generally speaking, if you still want older music review Chartbuster's catalog

Specifically, I recommend you try Chartbuster CDG90181 - $17.99 on Karaoke.com
-OR- Chartbuster CDG5018 - $33.00 3/discs.

I recommend these discs (or similar ones) not because of the age of the songs but because the tracks are condusive to sing-a-longs, which is something I would encourage if I were doing a show at such a facility!

At first you want to concentrate on DJ with  big band from the 40,s. Old country will be requested about  as much. They (I could almost say we) enjoy new music too but remember they dont like it loud and not heavy on the bass. The old songs take them back to a different time and place. Usually there isnt many singers esp the first few shows. They would rather listen and dance. Have lulls between the songs unless they are getting with it.

Stardust
In The Mood
Blue Tango
Lot OF EP
Old Old Country

During the first show find out or ask what they want. I have done these and have taken requests and sang most of them.

Elvis may have been new when they were young, but the "golden oldies" were popular during their teens too. Just like most of the twenty-somethings I see know "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" from long before their time, the older people know "Tip-toe Through The Tulips", "Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree" and others from before their time.

Chartbuster has some decent packs of songs that target different eras. Look at the Mitch Miller three-disk set.

Chartbuster has quite a few song pack collections.  The collections come in 50 and 100 song collections.  I've got the 50's pop set from chartbuster (off the top of my head its 100 songs) and recommend it.  It didn't pop up on the net but I found volumes 1 & 2 for fifties music in the 50 song sets.  There is also a fifties country and a 100 song set for the sixties pop.  The 50 song sets run in the mid twenties on the net plus shipping.  That's ebay pricing.   From the karaoke stores in the net you can get 3 50 song sets for $100.  I use chartbuster and recommend their karaoke songs.

Yep, Mcky57, just like I said:   Mitch Miller   CB CDG5018 and CDG90181(3 disc set)

I would also assume, BlueRose, you already have older country classics.  Check your catalog for the following:
          Hank Williams     Patsy Cline
          Hank Snow         Dottie West
          Eddie Arnold       Loretta Lynn
          Roy Acuff           Kitty Wells
          Lefty Frizzell       Tammy Wynette
          Merle Travis       Donna Fargo
          Merle Haggard    Janie Fricke
          Porter Wagoner  Barbara Mandrell
          George Jones     Lynn Anderson
          Charlie Pride
          Charlie Rich
          Johnny Cash
          Freddie Fender
          Micky Gilley
          John Conlee
          Earl Thomas Conley
          Don Williams

My parents are 66 and 68 and their music was 50's rock and roll.  They wouldn't have dreamed of listening to big band stuff back then.

Re Invention, you're echoing, pretty much, thoughts.

But in really thinking this question through it leads me to start a new thread, wondering "Whatever happened to?"
