Just got a call today that one owner bought the rest out and the bar will be will be closed for 30 days. This is fine except I hope he borrows enough to expand the size of the bar like they have been talking about. I am a little pissed that he didnt give me any more than 1 day notice . Now I have to scramble to meet my bills. I can get gigs any time I want  it's just the inconvenience.

Really inconsiderate - a little notice would have been nice. We packed up early tonight due to weather and it being the end of the month (small town)> I'm not really very happy about that, let alone 30 days!

Karen I have had high paying jobs but on social security  losing $100/week after paying host all of a sudden is  a problem. I over extended and rent is due in a few days  LMAO

did you have a contract with the bar? If the bar was bought out, the old owner or the new one are still responsible for the minimum time to tell you about changes. Chances are VERY strong they knew this was coming!!

If I were you I'd sit down and have a serious conversation with the new full owner about his plans when they re-open. Make sure you are in them. The fact that he only gave you one day notice would be a big red flag to me.

I am sitting here drinking beer at a crossroads. What hurts the most is the former mngr could not call me and tell me. He called my host a person who works for me. It would have hurt him too much to give me the news. That's the relationship we had.

I am from the old old school a verbal contract is binding. I was not even formally contacted from anybody from the establishment and now I am under no obligation to this place. Further bids will be be $200/night and I might even require a written contract. I'm going back to the bar in my home town and tell her (40 years relationship)  I am avalible now sat nights for $150. Pardon my ranting, we did have the best karaoke in northern colorado.

OK, I am going to play devils advocate here, Karyoker perhaps he or she did not feel comfortable telling you. You have exhibited a fairly quick temper here on this forum and perhaps that has something to do with it. I really have no problem with you at all, but if you are trying to find a reason why you were not informed then maybe you should look at all of them.

I am 45 y. o. and I am closer to your age than the youngins you seem to think give you no respect. There is a certain amount of respect that should be given for being wily enough to just reach your elder years, but the rest you have to earn just like all of us. No disrespect intended, as always if I have offended you or anyone else around here, I have and will apologize as you have done also. Have a good day and I hope your financial predicament is short lived. Rudy.

That was what I was trying to say.. The mngr did not call me because he could not deal with the emotions.  That was the relationship we had. He was my friend We had bonds. He could not tell me without tears in his eyes. Thats what hurts.

BTW I can express myself blow my stack and be laughing in 2 minutes. I have no problems with emotions or expressing my feelings. I am blowing tubes here because this is not a 2 minute deal. But things will work out Thanx.

I can understand the need to have a little secrecy in a transaction of this nature.    You don't want someone screwing up the deal or making a better offer.

Thing about Ollie is even though we may not see things on the same level many times, I DO in fact repect him because HE is NOT afraid to let ANYONE know where HE or his shows are.  Can you do the same?  NO!

I hope things work out for you Ollie. :)
If need be, we all can pull an "emergency-kj housing donation thing" here and get that rent of yours paid.
I'll pledge the 1st $25.....  j.r.

My angels got busy.  I walked across the street to the convenience store and ran into the new sole owner. We had a very frank discussion and he shared things that are not normally shared. He assured me that the same staff including mngr will still be there.

I can go to the ATM and get enough for rent although they will charge $30. I sincerely appreciate the offer but will get by.  I just ground up 4 lbs of sausage and cut steaks into smaller portions and froze. My potatoes are developing buds but are still hard. I can use powdered or concentrated milk for the cereal. LUVYA...

Yeah, I just love how the 'no notice' thing only works one way!  Everytime I have to take off a night for a different gig or anything...I think 2,3,4 weeks notices is a good gesture.  I find out at 8pm on Friday night, that my Saturday gig if on standby for a week or two until it warms up, which is fine....I would've just like to know a little ahead of time, I could've worked somewhere else.  Ignorant, is all I can say.  I hope you get your wish and the expansion happens.....everyone is happy!  Take care, MrD

The new owner thought he could transfer the liquor license directly and not close but there was a problem with back taxes not paid. He considered paying them but he said they were too high.

It seems the relationships  (business dealings) with owners and managers are not quite what we think they were.  SURE they all seem like your best friends and HONORABLE ..but the TRUTH TRUTH TRUTH  remains..business is business and MONEY IS MONEY ....unless you're talking family.  (even then sometimes thats worse)  LMAO  LMAO

verbal agreements spoken about over a bar counter  are not as binding and as
strong as you think.   OLD SCHOOL is the best  but unfortunatley this is a NEW WORLD.....  times are changing  :(  :(
