I have an extremely large karaoke library and I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a list of songs that have explicit lyrics so that I can flag them for being inappropriate for kids. I could watch each and every one, but that would take forever and I have a gig coming up that is for kids only. Any help would be appreciated!

No hip hop & rap music.
No Sublime, watch Green Day.
Be safe just play oldies.

There is no actual set list. You just have to know your music/songs. As SW just suggested, check your Hip Hop/Rap selections (if you have any), because a large amount of Hip Hop and Rap music has explicit language. Also, if you have any of the "Mama" discs (from Sound Choice), you might want to give them the once-over.

Our song library includes a lot of songs that I don't want in my shows. My sons show, anything goes, and that works for him, but not the kind of show I want to do. I am sending our song book to my granddaughter in Georgia, who is almost 23 years old, and really into all kinds of music. She is going to mark the songs for me that have objectional language, then I can look at those songs and make my decision. Her husband is in Iraq, so she welcomed a chance to have something to do while she and the babies wait for his return.

The list of marked songs (ie explicit lyric) may be of interest to this forum; you may want to post the list here.

I've got a few people that are going to go through my songbook also and try to help me pick out the songs that they know of. If we get it done, I'll post them on here.

That'd be great - sure make things easier for those of us who wish to 'flag' inappropriate songs for different occasions.

This reminds me of something. Some people are so use to hearing the songs with the swear words they don't remember they are in the song.
Everytime i start a new bar i ask if there are any steps to get in. 9 out of 10 times they say no steps. When i get there there is at least one. When i point it out to them, they say they didn't think there were any. They didn't remember. Too complacent.
The same could happen with some of the F-bomb songs. I have to watch the words on the screen to be absolutely sure. Do it with every new disc that could be questionable, like the POP HITs Monthly. Even the Sound Choice discs. Some companies are starting to mark the explicit songs. Why do they even have to put them in there in the first place? Some companies do produce cleaned up versions.

Nothing wrong with Santeria from Sublime nor many Green Day songs that are available. American Idiot is probably the worst.

Aww that's not true. There are MANY rap songs that don't involve profanity, and there are a lot of oldies that do Take Greased Lightning for example.... not sure you'd want that at a kids show .
As for rap, I can contribute. Will Smith, ANYTHING by him,.. Outkast has a few like Hey ya that don't even have questionable words like hell. As for songs to flag from rap, Anything prior to the gangsta movement is okay, like sugar hill gang and run DMC. But after NWA hit the scene in the mid 80s you have to watch all those songs. Don't play anything by Tupac, Dr. Dre, some Eminem songs are okay for teens, none for smaller children though.
Hope this helped a little.
