Whenever I do a large party, I find I end up with about 4 or 5 of these per night.

One member of a party writes up a ticket for another, without their knowledge.  OK, if it happens once, I let it slip and usually just bypass the song if they don't want to sing it.

But then they do it again.  And then get all upset when it's not announced.

I know there's no real way to enforce that people write their own songs up.

Or the other being "Can you put [name] up for [song]"
"Sorry, they have to request it themselves."
"But they are too shy"
"Well, they are not really gonna sing it then are they!"
And then the protest begins...

completely understand and agree with you --It's one of the 7 deadly sins of Karaoke.

Though shall not put another up for a song without their knowledge

It's a pita and just wastes everyones time-- YEAH the group all think its funny to see their friend squirm when you 1st call the name to sing  but as a KJ it gets tired REAL FAST after the hundreth time you see it done.  :(

I mean, sure, skipping one in the rotation isn't a big deal.  But you're right - when it happens mroe and more, you're taking the mickey a bit - people want to sing, not watch 1 person squirm and a DJ fill for a few seconds.

I have to confess, I am guilty of doing this when my son and I would go to karaoke shows together a couple of years ago. I would put up a slip for him to do El Paso, or Turn The Page, I really loved hearing him sing these songs.  I guess the difference is, I knew he wouldn't mind getting up and singing them, he's not the least bit shy when it comes to singing. And of course after the first couple of times I did it, he pretty much figured I would be up to my tricks.....lol   I would never do it just to embarrass someone, I think that's out of line

If that happens to me, i don't like it.   I tell them "someone" is next and "someone" is sitting there shaking their head no and saying they are not singing.  I just tell them i need to know if you are or are not, i have a show to run.   Usually they can tell i'm a little pi$$ed.  If they do it again, i ignore the request unless (until) they come up and ask where it is.  Then i ask them if they are going to sing it?    If they say yea, then i'll give them 1 more chance.    If they screw that up.  THEY ARE DONE.   Don't care who they are or who they know.  DONE.

They will not make me look like a jerk.
