[font=Verdana]My son, Johnny, does three gigs a week at present, Thurs, Fri, and Sat. nites. He has had one karaoke host from the bar just a few doors down come and tell him he won't do any good because she will have all the crowd. (fact- she had 4 to 6 people all night, he had a packed house.) Another went around and offered the bar owners to take over Johnny's gig for a cut rate price, even offered one guy he'd to it for $75 a night. But the topper is the KJ that inserted his advertising in all of my son's books. Obviously a lot of the KJ's in our area aren't as professional as the ones that frequent this forum.[/font] ![Shocked ](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)

Never trust another KJ.
I get the same treatment. Everyone wants to be me and have my jobs.
He is a successful KJ and they are jealous. And starving, now. ![LMAO LMAO](./images/smilies/emot-LMAO.gif)

Trust me, NO ONE wants to be YOU & have your non locatable jobs. Only those afraid of their own self would hide from the rest of the world. Alot of insecurity on your part.

Off topic but, i have answered the locality issue in another thread.
Since i am computer based and the issue of back up copies and copyright infringement has not been finalized and at this moment is considered to be illegal, i will not put my bar owners or myself in the path of self incrimination.
Maybe you think it's a smart thing to do, broadcast the fact that you are running an illegal show all over the world wide web, i don't. At such time that the above becomes legal, them the world wide web will be advised.
Just trying to cover my A$$. You should to. ![wave ](./images/smilies/emot-wave.gif)

No the fact that you won't even list a GENERAL area you run in is insecurity or you don't really exist (kind of like another you resemble). Not asking for club names or addresses, don't care. What state or city if you really exist or just a wannabe kj that has no facts to prove anything you state. Willing to bet the latter!

The authority with which people spout this inaccurate and incomplete information continues to be a major thorn in my side....Whomever has decided to be quoted as THE authority on the misleading information that format shifting and backup copies are illegal has done a wonderful job... HOWEVER.... A major manufacturer of karaoke computer software is NOT going to continue to invest and sell themselves in this business without having gone to great lengths and great expense to determine the legality of their endeavors. If after reading the info below you still wish to run and hide and remain anonymous, feel free.
Here is the current information regarding this issue, straight from the anals of a well recognized and respected legal research firm... http://ipjustice.org/wp/2007/02/22/karaoke_legal_myths/

SEVERAL major software manufacturers that spend countless hours developing & redeveloping designed for the professional kj/dj to use in their professional shows.
But to get back on track, it's always funny when kj's see a successful show & want to think they can come in & go lower & expect to keep the same show going. Happened to me, we built a crowd from $100 night till to over $1500 per night(the bartender happens to be a good friend of mine as well). The owner wanted me to cut my price, sorry! He got another company that charged 1/3 of what I was. There crowds quickly died & the bartender told me they went from $1500 from our nights to LESS than what they were making before. They called me back asking if I could come back & told them I could however my price had increased since my release. He kept the other host & dropped karaoke shortly after. The have since went back to live music & are bringing karaoke back on one night I heard.

I have experienced the same thing - the low-baller in town (who is a pirate, BTW, and not a very good pirate at that) sniffs around looking for shows that are on the edge. He offers to do the show for less... Has a resume 50 clubs long ... not a good thing in the karaoke business.
I took over one of his shows once when the place was on the verge of calling it quits. I brought it back to a hugely successful show, every weekend. After some time I had a major issue with management, decided I couldn't compromise my busy ethics any longer and left. Low-ball pirate comes back...now place is on the edge again. Gotta wonder when owners will understand the value of karaoke and look beyond their initial monetary investment in it.
Took much krappaoke around this area, TTown...we know who the perps are. Cheesy pirates.... (There...I have fulfilled my fifth-grader tendency today and resorted to name calling).

Karen, if you think putting your songs on a hard drive is totally legal, then call Sound Choice and give them your karaoke schedule. ![Surprise :O](./images/smilies/emot-eek.gif) LMAO
You must not read the posts on here.
Bar owners...I can not count the times that exact thing has happened to me. They learn how good i really am, but it's a costly lesson. Usually ends in the death or near death of the bar. ![LMAO LMAO](./images/smilies/emot-LMAO.gif) LMAO
And Napster never had any legal issues. And Youtube is pulling music videos off. And the makers of CD Clone stopped selling and producing their software because of some nasty stuff, regarding illegalities. Look it up.
I can buy a cable black box is it legal to use? Making anything doesn't guarantee it's legality.
Sorry someone keeps taking this off topic. ![Need a Hug? :need hug:](./images/smilies/emot-wanttohug.gif)

Blue Rose, don't you just love business ethics? LMAO
TTown, was that a greedy bar owner or what? One thing's for certain, he sure don't sound like a sensible businessman to me! If I was the owner of that bar I'd be giving you a raise instead of taking on the guys who dropped the revenue by 14/15! I guess it's the old adage... pay peanuts, get monkeys!
Karen, I totally agree with you re the IPJustice statement... let me see, I have a choice... stay with the CDGs I have as I can't carry any more to my shows, ie don't purchase anymore... or, format-shift all my CDGs to my computer and keep buying new CDGs to add to the hard drive. Now let Sound Choice argue that they are losing revenue because I format-shifted.. yeah, right! Ding! Not all of the 4 provisios are satisfied! Ignore the ignorant Is my motto... they will only lead you on the path of controversy!

Precisely, Murrlyn. I continue to buy Soundchoice CDGs, and whomever else wants to give me a good deal on music - but ALL legal. I have a CDG to back up every single song I have. I don't do double shows (sharing music between two shows). If the Soundchoice gangsters which to come after us, I can direct them to a few goldmines around here who have NOT ONE SINGLE HARD COPY OF ANY OF THE 90,000 SONGS THEY CARRY. SOundchoice has NO CHOICE but to try and stop this...however, as long as I can show them I have a hard copy representing every single song on the harddrive, they can talk at me all they want.
Who was it that sang, "pa-ra-noy-a will dis-troy-ya"
I guess we all have to made educated decisions about this sort of thing and enjoy or suffer the consequences of them, whichever it may be.

Interestingly, have you ever tried to turn in a pirate? I have yet to notice anything written anywhere that the soundchoice goons have started hauling in pirates. Now there'd be some booty.

Im only gonna make one post
Download these copyright laws and copyright revisions
Search for karaoke, graphics, format shifting or any of these other illegal buzz words and see what they say about it.
However you can search fair use and #4 pertains to making profit from copying.

Refer back to the lawsuits brought against other bars in Arizona and the one Lonman linked to. What do you think they are talking about, Pirates?
Nope they are talking about two things.
Companies that supposedly made karaoke songs out of popular songs without permission. And companies that sell hard drive units...I.E. CAVS.
So now tell me how you figure that it's illegal for them and legal for you?
I want to protect my financial disc investment. That's why it's on my hard drive. It is by all of the available info, illegal to transfer this legally obtained music to a hard drive. There was never a permission granted to you to do that. If there was, show me the copy of it in writing. You have permission to play the disc in your house. Not to make a CD copy or a hard drive copy. The 1-1 copy deal if there is a real deal, was meant for CDs, not hard drives. I don't care if you have the originals, you have no permission from the original music owner (writer) or the publisher or the karaoke disc company. DO YOU?

Every case that I linked to has had to do with either blatent pirating/multirigging/preloaded hard drives (like the Arizona cases) sold off of ebay or bars being hit for non-compliances of publisher fees ie ASCAP/BMI/SESAC (like the Spokane case) and once these are properly paid, they could give a rip (no pun intended) how you playback your music. So yes they were in a sense about pirates or bars not paying fees.
Not once have I ever put up a link with a simple computer user that owns a complete cdg library that transferred to computer, mainly because none exist.

Was talking about the last one about CAVs.
It's a format to hard drive issue.
Just because it happens to be a corporation doing doesn't mean it's not the same issue.
They copy to hard drive #1 and then they sell it #2. We all do the #1 part of it. Can not be a double standard. We are all guilty.

Actually in further review, Sony is suing due to unlicensed sync rights. The companies created the music without obtaining the permission to use the lyrics - the sync rights. Not about format shifting or anything else.
