You can do that with PowerKaraoke tools and Power CDG burner, or MTU Microstudio and Keyrite. In each case, you change the key on the file and burn the resulting file to disk.

You could also use Audacity and any CDG burner, but I don't know how good it's pitch changer is. I suspect it is fine, but have never tried it.

I've used Audacity, and also Keyrite....I prefer Audacity when it comes to key changing.

I should warn you:  if you change the key of a song more than 3 notes up or down, it won't sound as good.  Also the background vocals (if any) will sound differently.

Just thought you should know that.

MTU Microstudio the new version has a key change ability built in as well as a vocal reducer that you can burn back to a disc in the key you need.

Yes I think Keyrite (their key changing program) and Vogone (their vocal reduction program) are all part of that package.  I would be interested to hear from others who have the newer version of Keyrite, as some improvements were made.  I have an older version and even a slight key change of 2 notes down causes the music to have a "wobble" type of sound.  Audacity does it as well, but it's not as bad.

Two full notes, or two half-steps? I have a few songs that I have at -2 half steps, and those have no problems caused by Keyrite. I agree that any more than that is problematic, though it is better than Pacemaker.

NO, no improvement made, still that same rubber band or quivering effect or what ever you want to call it, it sure makes me sick!!  So far, no key changer are capable of doing the job right, they all have the same problem except for keyrite, this one is by far the worst... If you do wish to prepare a track for recording, well, that's different... The EAX Console from Audigy (Sound Blaster) has a great key changer, no glitch at all but like I said, it's more for studio recording!

It's 2 full notes...I tried lowering a track by 2 notes in Keyrite and the wobbly effect was very noticeable.  I do have an older version of Pacemaker (1.2) and you don't get that wobbly effect with it.  The olther version I have of it, which is 2.1, varies...on some tracks I can get excellent results, others come out sounding terrible.   I don't use Pacemaker that much, mainly because I like Audacity's pretty well.  But if you can find it, try getting version 1.2 of Pacemaker.

Sorry to hear that about Keyrite.  I know just what you mean!  I have an old Nikkodo karaoke system from 90s (set-top system, not for PC) which had a key changer and vocal reducer...and the key changer in it sounds similar to Keyrite's with that awful wobbly effect.

I have an old puter and am pondering getting a newer one....or at least upgrading some stuff....is this the Audigy you were referring to?  The price seems pretty reasonable. http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=205&product=4915

Yes this card would be a great choice, in fact, any Audigy that comes with the EAX Advanced HD or the EAX Console will have that key changer.  The card you selected for $50,00 is a bargain BTW, I've used it for many years and loved it! I'm using a pro card on my desktop now but still have an Audigy2 ZS PCMCIA on my laptop only because I needed that key changer! Feel free to listen to my songs in the showcase, most are on a different key and the song Longer is at -2, you'll see what I mean...

I am pretty much done with Pacemaker except for practice, and I have no songs that I use where I go down four half-steps. I have a couple I do at 3, but not often. One or two half-steps is what I use it for in almost all cases.

But I will have to check out Audacity's key controller, because sometimes I want to change the key of MP3s. My version of keyrite only operates on bin files. This is what I want since I rip directly to .bin then key change, but I do buy some tracks from Tricerasoft and they come in mp3 format.

Keyrite works with a wave file doesn't it??? If not, you can use Mp3+G Toolz and convert the file from audio+g to bin?

I thought the newer version of Keyrite was supposed to allow you to use MP3 files?  :?

I still prefer Audacity....am using 2 versions of that as well, since one of mine is a beta (1.3)...I haven't had the time to see if there's an update or not.  Howver, I just used that version today to lower the key of a song by 3 half steps and it sounds pretty good.  Can't get much better than FREE! LOL

Karaoke Sound Tools have the unique feature of changing tempo to CDG files -- it slows down the music and the lyrics. If you compare commercial software, it gives you the most for your $$$ (vocal remover, key changer, and tempo changer).

Regarding key change -- I guess that if no science breakthrough is done, it cannot be done any better. The best algorithm I know for key changer was in Dart audio editing software, but the difference is very subtle.

WAV file or BIN. And yes, I can and do convert to bin. But if I can operate directly on the MP3+G without going through that step, it would be better. At this point, if I want to create a key-changed MP3 I have to go MP3+G-->BIN-->keychange-->MP3+G. I don't want to convert too many times, it is to a smaller extent like sending a fax of a fax.
