In many places that I've frequented, the "second coming" of a song often occurs long after both the first singer, along with a good deal of the crowd who heard the first rendition, are gone.  I know, that's not always the case, but I consider this factor in deciding how to react to the "second coming".  I have no hard and fast rule.  It all "depends"

Good point Eric.  It is definitely a judgment call.  As a singer, I don't sing songs the same night that someone else as done.   In fact if I want to sing a song and I'm in a place where I know someone else really likes to sing it, I won't sing it--I"ll wait for a night when they aren't there.  This encourages me to learn new stuff!

I have many singers that tell me to let them kmow if someone else wants to sing a particular song.  Real gallantry.   If i see the same song in their pile of slips that has just been sung, i'll go to their next one automatically.   Because i know that as soon as they hear it they will be up to change it anyway.

I have some singers that are very considerate toward others about songs they also do.  But i have some that, "I can sing it better."   Or they just don't care or it doesn't bother them to do it again.

I'm there to please the singers and if that means a repeat, i'm not going to go nuts about it.   I just play it again.   Not a big deal.    As said before it happens on the radio and video TV shows all the time.    A play list repeats every so many munites.   That's the nature of the business.
