Jian's right. SW hasn't broken any rules, and when people get nasty with him, he doesn't retaliate in kind. He might argue back, but does so without the attacks. There is something to be respected in that.

And you know, SW's right in one of his posts he made on another thread. This is a DISCUSSION forum. Other forums I belong to, there are those that love to be trolls, but I don't really find a troll-like attitude with SW or even back when BD posted. As others have indicated, it's just his my way or the highway attitude I can't stand.

My show is totally different than Lonnie's. I have politely disagreed with a few of his points, but I TOTALLY respect his right to be that way. and you know, he's had a solid show for what, 14 years? So even though he might talk about something that I don't agree with, I TOTALLY dig what he's doing, as he's been VERY successful about it.

Me? I've always been a part time kj, and been good at what I've done. But unfortunately, GOOD Kjs don't thrive in the past five years. The pirates and sell outs and those that take bribes and mess with rotation seem to flourish the MOST in my area (both in Portland and here in KC)...

SO maybe I should stop peein' in the wind... all it's doing is getting me wet!

I admire anyone who has and stands by their convictions and beliefs even if they differ than mine.  I've been on this site for quite awhile and it seems every now and then we have the one "SUPREME " being who is so insecure that they need to put down everyone else "equipment" "views" "rotation style" and "shows".    It's OK to differ than the majority but there is a "code" and a "way" to disagree with someone without insults and derogatory comments.  Most people here (inlcuding myself) have been guilty of taking the low road once or twice - but I believe MOST stay above that behavior unless provoked in some way or another.

Some act out for attention  and to "RILE THINGS UP"  --best defense is to just ignore them and without attention they fade away until  they think of a new name to sign up with again............... :hi5:  :worship:  :handshake:

Why would he let anyone know who he was if he was?  If it was a really a person using a multiple name that was kicked off, he would be automatically banned according to KS rules .  Just like he won't let anyone know the general vicinity he runs.  http://www.karaoke-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=11306

Jamkaroke points are right on the money.  I offer, in addition,  that "Side" has no interest in learning from his peers.  It's as if he's come down from "on high" to bestow upon us "ignorant know-nothings"  the "truth" about the only ways in which a karaoke show is to be done and how a KJ is to conduct him/herself!!!

Examples:  You're not a professional if you don't have weekend karaoke shows.
You're not a professional if you have anything at your show other than karaoke
You're not a professional if.......
                                              -OR- as provided by SW
Quote:
Learn you business and come back and talk to me.   Maybe your karaoke show doesn't have singers night after night, but mine do.   I run a karaoke show.
Your statements give away your lack of talent in running a successful karaoke show.

I don't know who among you might agree with me on this, but I have found that the most significant ingredient for having a successful show is having a winning personality.  I believe this fervently.  I've concluded that there is just one someone amongst us who displays a personality that is so grating I must truly wonder about the popularity and longevity of his show(s), or if he actually has any shows?

Quoting sidewinder from another thread:

Quote:
I have had some individuals over the years that just were not the best singers.  Some were challenged and some just sucked.    But at my show that doesn't matter.  And they told me that they were not allowed to sing as much at other shows.

First of all, if you are a KJ that discriminates toward any singer because you preceive them to be not up to "your" standard or a detriment to "your" precious high energy show, you suck as a KJ and a member of the human race.    Who the hell are you?

Second, you are practicing discrimination if they are challenged.    (and even if they just suck)

Third, you put yourself and the bar owner in a discrimination law suit position.

I would be the first person to turn your A$$ in.      And be the first witness in the case against you.

If sidewinder had a show in my area, I would probably go to it because I know I would be treated the same as any other karaoke singer, no matter what song I selected from his songbook, and no matter how good of a singer I really was.  Those principles go a long way in attracting me to a place as a singer.  There is nothing worse than going to a karaoke show, and wondering if you are going to "fit in" because your voice isn't as good, because you don't know the songs as well, because you don't have a dynamic stage presence, or because the songs you want to sing may or may not be what other people sing that night.  A really good host, can make the humblest singer feel welcome and truly make a show out of an array of oddball singers.

Seattledrizzle...you're obviously NEW and haven't read many many other threads where sidewinder says just the opposite.

You will soon learn that he is a hypocrite looking for any interpretation of something wrong and just outright exploiting it.

Give him time and he will marr and twist YOUR words around one day to suit his point- BET ON IT. Others DO- that's why this thread was created.

BTW, i hope you don't sing hip hop! LMAO  that's a big NO-NO at his shows so you wouldn't be welcome.

Looks are deceiving....all you have are words to look at.....look deeper into his hypocrisy if you wanna waste time....but don't be surprised what you find!

Driz...  :worship:

I take my karaoke business seriously and you would know that in very short order.

I mix everyone to sound their best.   I pick out the best musical song versions to play.    I use good equipment.    Treat everyone as i want to be treated.    The rotation is very fair.    I don't care what type of song you pick from the book to sing.   You will sing it when it's your turn.   I'm not worried about the 'High' energy being lost.   I tell everyone to sing whatever song you want to sing.  Don't worry about what the crowd is singing.   It's your turn to sing.    They'll get theirs.

I know it's very hypocritical of me.
