This has probably been asked millions of times, but I'm sure things change in the Karaoke world. Also I want a specific answer.

I need a rackmountable player, preferably with dual discs but I can live without it. It needs to be reliable too. I've heard very bad reports about Cavs and Vocopro, but they seem to be the only real 'players' in the market.

I also need VGA and Composite output to work simultaneously, as I will have a TV as well as a computer monitor displaying the words as the songs play.

What are your suggestions/experiences?

Thanks for the reply, but as I said, I need VGA and composite output to work simultaneously. This model doesn't have VGA out. :(

You could look at this one.

Although I do not profess to know anything about it...other than it does state it has both vga and composite out.

I got a Mixsonic CD/DVD player off ebay a few months ago. It has ports for an external computer monitor and for a TV. I think you can use both at the same time but I haven't tried that yet. I use a computer and haven't really used the player. It was about $70 including shipping. It came with a remote control too. On the front of the machine it has buttons and knobs for choosing the track, + & -  for the pitch, echo control, play, pause, stop etc. It will play CD+G, MPEG, MP3, DVD etc. I got it for a backup, I don't know if it's robust enough to be used every day as a primary player, but I don't see why not.

run it to a modulator with multiple outputs, or y it connecting one side to a single output, less expensive modulator

FYI - One review on the site about this player....YIPES!

By Dj Crazy Charlie from Farmington NM on 2/6/2007
Best Uses:Amateurs
Pros:Low Distortion
Cons:Weak
Bottom Line:No, I would not recommend this to a friend
First unit I purchased one CDG output didnt work. Second one after replacing the other stopped reading CDG's on one player after several days of use.
Two video outputs so two separate TV inputs or two T.V. monitors. BAD BAD BAD no video converter.

k

Okay, so I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll run my VGA on a composite converter. So scrapping the VGA out (or if it's still an option) and requiring a reliable, rackmountable unit. A single disc unit is probably best suited so that I don't have to get a switch box.

What hardware do you use?

One final thought on a rack mount.  I purchased a non rack mounted karaoke player and a rack plate.  I pulled the cover off the player drilled a couple of hole throught the player and the rack stuck in some bolts and then mounted the player in my skb rack.  I've used it for years.  If there is a non rack player that you like or if you already have a player you might consider this.  It could save you a few bucks.

When my son and I put our first set up together we bought the CAVS 203G player.   It will play the SCDG discs and most other formats. He has been using this since last September with no problems.  We run both a TV monitor and a computer monitor from it.  We did need to buy a AV to VGA converter to allow running the computer monitor.  I have purchased the same player for our second setup, so obviously I'm happy with it.   :oh yeah:

I've been using the Numark CDN 25G for over a year now with no problems.  It is rack mountable and solid.  You will need an external key changer and video switch.  It loads a little slow, but with two drawers, you can run a really efficient show.  I have no complaints about this player, but would buy one of the old JVCs in a minute if they were available again.
