Didn't McCAin fly the plane that burned up on the forrestal? That's what I was thinking when I saw the name of the Destroyer.

Yeah the Senator was a pilot on the Forrestall (aka the Forest Fire)

Further research--it was named for his dad and granddad, both Admirals...

My Commander-in Chief  When I unfural this old poster that I stole from a Navy Recruiter I weep... I was at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center for a 6 month extensive electronics school. During the Fri exam the instructor informed us he had bad news. He took us out one by one when we finished the exam and told us personally about the assasination. I had the honor and priveledge to serve one of the best and for that I will be eternally greatfull.
