Yes!  To the question of doing your own songs.  I used to do it mostly with novelty songs and in a karaoke format.  I have never seen the mix of live musicians and karaoke work.  It takes some of the attention away from the singer and what is the point of singing karaoke but to be the center of attention for a little while?

I have actually had people come in with a copy of music that they wrote and produced at home on some kind of music writing software, they have sang their own songs they wrote, and I did not have a problem with it.

The only thing I could see how it would be perceived as bad was that no one knew the songs, and no one knew really where it was going. But the music was not bad, the singers are actually really good. I would have to commend anyone for taking that brave of a step as to take their own music in and sing in front of a croud especially because we all as karaoke hosts know that a massive amount of songers all sing the smae things time and time again, and always the most popular music or the most over played music.

But anyone who would come to my show with their own music would only be encouraged by me, its individual, it is unique it is a true testiment to who they are, they are not singing the same songs everyone else is obviously so they deserve credit for doing so.

Two thumbs up for being individuals and most importantly not being afraid of doing it in front of a room of total strangers and possibly the worst critics out there.

And you never know that "original" song just may be popular one day and you will look back and say... yeah, I heard it for the first time at my karaoke show.

It would make me proud to have been a part of something so artisticly wonderful! :drums:

Ive had a couple do that too.

What Im wanting to do is get one of the Karaoke creator programs(I dl'd a sample version of one to try it out) and then use lyrics that Ive written and sing them to instumental tracks(primarily blues and swing music)  and put my original lyrics into karaoke screen word format and then sing my own stuff at the karaoke bars that way. They would appear as normal karaoke words sweeping across the screen. Just my own original blues and swing lyric compositions in an actual Karaoke format on my own disc that I make myself. Ive posted some of these on the SS before.

Its a slow, tedious process of syncing the words to the music on these programs, but once your done u have an actual "Karaoke" trac. I have 7 or 8 compositions that I'd like to do that with--primarily since the blues/swing genre produced by the various karaoke mfr's is very limited and there's just so much REALLY GOOD swing and  blues music that never makes it onto karaoke.

A good idea, if you are willing to put in the effort.

I live in a town with a lot of local bands (Athens, GA). Most are minor unsigned groups allog with a few major groups.

A few of them have approached me recently about converting some of the songs that they wrote into karaoke versions for nights that they dont have a show (none of the major bands of course). As many of the bands have never played to crowds over 100 people or got any coverage beyond the local college radio station, they are certainly novelty songs.

I probably will get around to it as a few of the acts have a local following that overlaps with my karaoke crowd, and some of the local fans of the local bands know and will sing the origional songs as well as the artist that wrote them.

Sure it probably will be little more than a novelty and one song a night or so but hey every little bit helps if it brings a few more people into the bar.

I am not a member of a band or a songwriter, but If I was I am sure I would have a karaoke version of my songs already.

I have played bands music and i also promote karaoke singers that are in bands because they come to my shows.

But That said, it's still a karaoke night, not an open stage night or a talent show night.     :O
