Am I missing something here or did Jerry sub that particular song under "J"? I don't like to see critiques given on subs that are NOT up for a critique. When people break protocol and give unsolicited critiques, it can scare away newbies who may think that rules are not followed and that someone may come along and critique theirs subs that are posted JFF. I thought that was in poor taste. The person that critiqued Jerry also joined the same day...which clearly shows his intention was to come on the site for the purpose of critiquing him.

I guess, you've missed the point Ms. We talk here about nasty comments. Maybe you should start reading the whole thing again. "J" or not "J"...He got a friendly and honest comment and replied exactly the same back. He went to the mentioned person and wrote his, (you called it) "unsolicited critique" as well. That was a "J" too, btw. (He being a daily poster should have known the rules too, don't ya think??) Nevermind, he got also a friendly reply. The question is, why is he coming here after all the "friendliness" and starts a thread like this talking now about him as a mean person writing nasty comments?? And, why asking for an aswer, if he already chased the person down??
"I thought that was in poor taste" (Your words!!)
I AGREE!!!

Sometimes people are just being gracious in a public setting even though they may not have enjoyed what occurred on their sub. I don't know why he chased him down, but he didn't seem to initiate anything to get the critique in the first place unless there's something of which I'm unaware.

sadly guys when something like this rears its head it pits friends against each other. Perhaps that is precisely what the author had in mind, either way no need for his gripes whether justified or not to alienate anyone else

I really don't have any problems with what he said, except when he inserted my how my family should respond. So, I disagree....I would never presume to insert a comment and tell a singer what his family should do. That was the nasty part....sorry if you don't agree.

jerry, i remember reading the comment and didn't like some of what he said either...he seemed to jump onto you for asking advice from phil who i know is a friend of yours and also seemed to be getting onto you for some other things....it really didn't make a lot of sense to me....it was very odd that he signed up and then only commented on your songs...i hope everything gets all sorted out soon...and it hope this doesn't keep you away from subbing...although i don't comment a lot, i do listen a lot and we would miss your voice and presence around here....

Ok, ya'll....this was just for fun sub...not want for the big "C"....and, I was joking around with Phil as to how I sing...Phil and I are friends....and, this guy inserts himself into that conversation.
Anyway this guy shows up and says tells me I'm putting Phil on the spot, asking him for fluff and/or a lie to make me feel better....He continued by saying my family should be involved and tell me the truth...that's when I took offense. How on earth does he assume to speak for my family...That is why I was / am offened.
Too, this 'guy' sounds a lot like another situaiton that arose last year where a member was using another (fake) ID (Vicki knows what Iam speaking about) and was attacking in the fake name, but complimenting in the real name. My first impression was that this person was back to his old tricks.
What you don't know is that I PM'd OldCountry and thanked him for his comment. And, I asked him for his true ID....I have reason to believe it may have been a repeat from last year. He is not posting because he is a fake....I know that from some other things he said.
Don' t be caught up in this....he is not real.

Quote: This is "public" too...not really Gentleman like! I think, it's time for Jerry to show up and bring light into what he started... Woof! How can folks (seeing bits and pieces) understand at this point without Oldcountry also speaking his mind here ? He hasn't just formed this ID recently, hasn't he been a member in here for a year or more ? True, this doesn't mean he doesn't have several ID's, some people do, but it's impossible to know what's going on when representation is one-sided, and some of it involves conjecture. Quote: He continued by saying my family should be involved and tell me the truth...that's when I took offense. How on earth does he assume to speak for my family...That is why I was / am offened.
Did he remove that ? or can it be viewed ? Problem is those of us reading this in the Singers Forum, aren't able to see things with objectivity when presented this way
(btw, ALL info should be presented HERE, I don't wish to see any PM's regarding this, present it here, that's only fair. Reason being, in the past, friends of friends have often PM'd their feelings, this stuff needs to be in the open or what's the point in even discussing it *in open forum* at all?)

There is one thing I don't understand...Why is every one of your "fans" just assuming that he joined that day to "jump" on you, Jerry? It is written in black & white that he has been a member since July 21 2006 and he said up front that he was only an unbiased long term listener. About your family...as far as I remember he said, that you should have more confindence in that what you do, instead of asking your friend how you sound like...And that your lovely wife (or family), your friends and your vocal coach (you pay money for) wouldn't tell you the truth, if you'd ask. Guess all started with my comment to you and with your reply to Phil...well, to be honest, when I've seen that, I also asked myself what that means, but mostly, why asking him in public, if you can do that through an e-mail? For me this is the oldest trick in the world...a cry for sympathy! You also say that he is a fake...well Jerry, you seem to really have problems, if you think that you are so "important" that people join only to write on you. It would mean, that every one who's just listening, but is never posting a song is a fake...hm, would think about it...Btw..you seem to have experience with people "attacking" you...maybe by takin' a long look in the mirror you'll find out the reason.

That was indeed a great song, Jerry. Bet you had a lot of fun recording it...I know, I had a good laugh listening. I have to ask now maybe a dumb question, but the more I hear you sing, the more I'm getting obsessed. What have you sung before country and Elvis? Your style and accurate pronounciation reminds me of somebody with experience in classical music, but maybe I'm just stupid?! Nevermind, I've seen lately that you seem to be a big fan of Conway Twitty and so am I. I have a favorite by him, I've never seen posted on here and I thought, who else could sing it better than you. The name of the song is "Don't call him a cowboy". Would so love to hear it...Once again, pretty job on this one! Mona
Reply: You're certainly NOT!! Thanks for commenting...I'll check on that Conway song---it's not familiar to me. Regarding style: I don't hear "Me" as others do,--so, I don't know. I sing lyrics the way I feel them and try not to sound like other artists, alive or dead...esp. dead! As to diction, I don't know...I do some public speaking and was taught diction, but I don't want to sound like Al Gore! BORING!! So, I just hope I'm not too 'stiff' sounding! And, yes I'm vocally trained to sing.
You're sounding more country all the time. Great lyrics and you're sounding mighty fine today pardner. I love my 4 wheel drive and Linda has said that she really likes it too. Happy Tuesday to you...Phil
Reply: Thanks Phil...I don't know: I grew up in the country and all my family (both sides) sing country music. In my first life, I sang ONLY rock, pop, standards, and such. Please read Moony's comment and send me an email....do I sound formal? I've gotten this a few times lately and I cannot 'hear me' as others do. Don't want formal....help me understand....I trust your input. If you'd rather not, I'll still likes you, some.

The thread states "Nasty" comments. That's the only reason I started following it, recent event leading to banning of a person (totally different situation obviously). "Nasty" was the hook that got me reading this. Assuming Oldcountries profile is his actual profile, just doesn't seem that too many of us in our 50's join these sites and hang on a year somewhat politely acknowledging a person, addressing them this way assuming there's a vendetta. Assuming Oldcountry was the same individual would it have been likely he'd have sub'd a song. and reacted as he did ?

So how about saving the nasty comments for those of us begging for critiques in the critique thread ? ![LOL LOL](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif) . Heck, As long as it's an adjective that isn't used out've a personal vendetta -phrases such as "Your attempt sucked" are welcome if followed by ways that I can improve and not suck, EVEN if it means "avoiding the song selection", or "stick to typing in chatrooms, it's the lesser of the two attempts at accomplishing something in your empty life".. Just back up the adjectives and phrases with honesty and something constructive, I'm trying to learn how to sing dangit, and showcase isn't the place to learn....

when I first read this Kappy I thought hmmm yep you are probably right...then it occured to me as I was struggling with photoshop that there are many people who dont sub but listen and support others, ie friends or family of those subbing.
It is therefore conceivable that whoever this guy is, could have in fact been a member for sometime (didnt mona say 2006?) and not commented. What in fact made him speak out is anyone's guess and I guess we wont know unless he explains himself...but chances are, if he is not a forum person and no-one knows who he is (assuming it is a he) then it may be he doesnt know hes being talked about...does that make sense?
btw my operation has been postponed yet again

I don't know what has been going on with all this as I have been away for a while, but from catching up on some reading here.....It seems like the same Ol" crap like we have all seen in the past.
With that being said.........
I will be 100% Honest here with you Jerry.... :handshake:
(1) You are one of the best male singers here on this site!!!!!!
(2) Yes you do sound formal, but I can only guess it is because of your accent which sounds like you might be from up north ??
(3) If you want to get rid of that formal sound....You should move to TN or Ga, and hang out with me for a while to get that southern drawl so you sound a bit more like a real country redneck hick... So that you can then have a much better country sound rather than sounding like a City fella....
(4) No matter what you do...or what anyone says.....You are a great singer!!!
(5) Those who say negative things about your singing are either jealous, or they want you to sound more country rather than formal.
(6) you are not the only person on this site who sounds formal
(7) If you really want to get rid of that formal sound....Again you must hang out with some of us Country hicks... So we can teach you how to sang like a real Country hick redneck Country singer!!
(8 ) If you don't want to sound like a real Country hick redneck....Then keep up the Great singing that you have been doing all along and ignore all of the above statements 1-7..... :)
(9) If you really do want to get rid of that up north city fella accent, and learn to sound like a real southern country fella, then it might require moving to valdosta Ga or how ever ya spell it....and hang out with some of them folks.....
Thats about as Southern Country fried as you can get right thar my friend!!!
(10) If that don't work.... then don't worry about it, cause you have a whole bunch of fans who love your singing just the way it is!!!! ![yes ](./images/smilies/emot-nod.gif) :hi5:

OK, everyone....I started this thread and the others for one simple reason...I contacted administration to see how one goes about getting one's avatar on the comment page...they told me I had to be involved in posting in the forums, something I'm loath to do...so, I tried to think up subjects of common interest. If you care to notice, my topics were started nearly all at once....just to have something to post to. I suppose I'm naive---not knowing that some use this forum to 'correct and demean' those of us who live in dark places.
THIS IS THE ONLY TIME I SHALL ADDRESS THIS ISSUE:
Regarding OldCountry...come on....it doesn't bother me one bit what he said...and I told him that. I've had much worst said to me by friends!
However, he inserted a comment that didn't make sense in light of what I was talking to Phil about. He stated I was seeking fluff and lies from a friend for my own ego satisfaction. I didn't care for that statement, but I did NOT address it with him. I don't live for fluff and lies--if I did then I'd never have confidence enough to sing in public....I'd be too insecure.
The only 'rub' was when he inserted himself into my family life. Now, that sort of thing may not bother you and, if not, that's YOUR business, but I didn't like it---though I did NOT address my dislike for this statement with him. I wish he'd been more of a gentleman and rightly not assume to speak as to what my family should do.
Having never noticed him or heard of him until that moment, I looked for his song list figuring he must be quite good, and I wanted to hear his talent. But, he had no songs. That's why I asked him whether he would sub a song...I wanted to hear this person's ability.
When he sub'd, I thought he had a good voice and told him so. But my point about 'hearing some odd things' was not in anger or spite, but to point out that no one hears him/herself as another hears them. That was what was being discussed in my reply to his comment to my song.
Too, I told him I hoped he would continue to post. He called me a 'gentleman' for not being upset with his comment on my sub. (That is interesting in itself as he must have thought his comment to me was a bit on the edge....why else use that phrasing?)
Now, there is no more to it than that....
________________________________________________
Isn't this a forum to discuss a TOPIC...not a place to insert one's righteous concept of how the world should operate upon another? I won't presume to tell another how to live, interpret comments, or what to say, and I'd hope for the same respect. Surely we don't hear alike, speak alike, conceptualize alike, etc., as each comes from a different perspective of life.
An intellgient discussion of a TOPIC is possible without adding personal insults and anger, isn't it? Yes? No?
Should you not like what I said to Old Country (his comment to me notwithstanding), please try your best to get over it....I know I was never in doubt my about it myself, not for even a moment. My comment and intention was with honor and respect.
I've not been around for several days due a family matter in Tulsa. I say this, because some question why I've not been heard from before now. Should you have the experience and the pain my family is going through (and I hope you never do), may you be my judge.
Truly, I wish you a wonderful day....
