The mention of Barracuda in the other thread reminded me of this. I would like to get a version of "Magic Man" with a shortened instrumental break in the middle. It's uncomfortable for the singers to just stand there that long, and it's a room killer too.

Once again I'm not looking for the cut that's the most faithful to the original. Not in this case.

Catseyeview and Lonnie were most helpful in finding me a better version of "I Touch Myself". The DK version is all I would ever want, and I found it available as a download purchase for just 99c! Sweet!!!

The version I'm currently using for "Magic Man" is Legends. And this is not one of their better efforts in any case. They've got the Minimoog part covered by a guitar for example. I've found Legends to be good enough of the time to keep buying them but not this time.

Chartbuster rarely has long instrumental breaks. Their version won't be as good as SoundChoice on the guitar, but I rarely see more than a 16-bar break from them.

Yup, Pioneer is the short version.  I'd have to listen to the others I have as far as availability. I know some are shorter.

Wow! Thank you sidewinder!

Any thoughts on what the MM version sounds like? I'm not sure I can get the Pioneer.

BTW anything under 4 1/2 would be better than what I've got. If it's under 4 that's better yet.

I have the MM version as well, terribly done.  The guitars sound very synthesized - almost like you would get if you recorded directly to a recorder & not actually mic'ing the guitar cabs, the drums are an obvious drum machine.  I did hear a strum of a real acoustic guitar I believe.

Well so much for that then. It's not as big a deal as "I Touch Myself" for my place. But I do have a couple of semi-regular old school "belters" that hit the Heart, Joplin, and Benetar pretty hard when they come in. They've both avoided "Magic Man" lately because of that long middle instrumental.

I just listened to them side by side.

The MM and Pioneer.     I couldn't tell which version i was listening to.   I always play the Pioneer.   Only because Pioneer is my first choice.  And actually that's the first time i have listened to the MM.

So MM is not that bad then? These ladies aren't that picky. And they are such strong singers that it's tough to hear the track! Also, I can work with a weak track on the board up to a point.

Well here's what I'll do then. I'll look for the MM version as a download and give it a listen if I find it for cheap. At least I know it's the length I'm looking for.

Got another song I'd like to find a short version of now that I'm on the subject but I think I'll wait till tomorrow...

I'll continue to play the Pioneer version but the MM wasn't that bad.     I was listening to the over all song and sound.   Good enough for some drunk chicks. LMAO

OK if you are into it I'm going to check the lengths of the two versions I've got and open up another thread.

As I mentioned in another thread, I sang this once, and I just did a lot of dancing during the instrumental break.  It was fun, but truth be told, there are a lot of other Heart songs I like better.

On the other hand, "Magic Man" is a heckuva lot better IMHO than "All I Want to Do is Make Love to You".  Normally, Ann could sing the phone book and it would sound great--this song makes me wish she had opted for the phone book instead.  It's a really boring song IMHO, much like John Waite's "Missing You" (no offense to anyone who likes either of these songs; I just think they're boring).  The lyrics are pretty lame as well--and what is up with some of her phrasing:  "So I offered him _ay_ ride", "All I left him was _ay_ note," etc.  That gets _ay_ bit redundant after _ay_ while!
