Have this new gig - would love to be able to set up my TV/monitor, mics and maybe a small floor monitor away from my board  using a SNAKE so there is only 1 cable on the floor if you know what I mean ?

I can find plenty of snakes for mics (xlr / 1/4" ins and outs)  - I would LOVE to be able to run my RCA VIDEO along with the AC Power  thru the snake also ---

Can't seem to find one that has an AC outlet and RCA ins/outs
only looking for a 20-50ft run ????

SUGGESTIONS ?

I run a 50 and a 100 foot snake I changed the mixer end into 2 sends with rca plugs. Then in the stage box mounted 2 rca jacks. One video is for the stage monitor and the other for the big screen. The tv monitors are terminated with 75 ohms so the cable run  is not that critical. It works with no problems. You can also use one of these on either end.

Also put a 1/4" plug on one for the audio stage monitor.

You can order custom made snakes or run video cables with the snake as i did.    Use one of the curly wire wrap things.    And the 110 power cord too.

But one draw back is the diameter of the cable is a much bigger tripping hazard.   My snake is what a girl fell on once.  She stepped on it and i think it may have rolled on her when she stepped on it and she slipped and landed flat on her back.

Karyoker---great link , I'll look into those ! :oh yeah:

SW - yeah the "thicker" cable runnig across is a concern - but I think it's much safer than say 3 - 25ft mic cables , an extension cord, a video cable etc.
My idea is if I run a snake right up to my TV stand I can use SHORT cables for mics / video / power -  making a CLEANER and safer hook up ?  - Don't know still picturing everything in my mind

Check the pics in "new gig"  at first glance all you see on stage is a video  and audio monitor, mic  and speakers.. At station just a monitor and keyboard and  a friendly host...

I use a little 30' snake with 6 xlr and two 1/4 in input/outputs.   I run the video feed to the monitor and audio to the monitor speaker(s) thru the 1/4 inch sockets and then two or three mics thru the xlrs.  The only other cable you have to run is the power cable to the video monitor. This keeps things looking pretty neat cuts down on cable clutter. I still use wired mics.  I like to have my mics on a leash to keep them and the singers from wandering away. I find that this little snake is adequate for a karaoke show.

I try to run cables next to the stage and then use gaffers tape to tape it all down. I've got a couple of black power cords I found at a garage sale that I use to supply the juice.  For a four gang electrical outlet I went to home depot and purchased  a roll of black 12 gauge electrical cable and a four gang metal electrial box (spray painted black) and made an little power cord with four  outlet to run over for  a power supply for my system.  Again this cuts down on cable clutter.

Does anyone know where to purchare black duct tape?

Most hardware stores have some.

I don't think they run 110 volt wire through a snake because of the microphone electrocution thing.

Sidewinder,

Your correct,  it's a no no to run electrical ac current through a snake.

If anyone is interested I'll recheck the size of the cord on the electrical cord I made to supply power to my setup.  It may be 14 guage copper wire.  In any event it was made to handle alternatinng current.  PA snakes are not.   Again this would dangerous.

Rick

Another main reason being is you don't want to run mic/line cable next to power lines whenever possible - especially on long snake runs, simply for sound (buzzing/hums/static & even RF) interference purposes.

I bought a bulk power cord off a reel and put ends on it and ran it with the snake.   I think i used a flexable black insulation 14 or 12 gauge & ground.  Just to power a 19" TV.   You could redo one if the microphone cords to RCA ends.

And get a lot of duct tape to keep it flat on the ground.

In a proper grounded system and running balanced audio I have never had a problem using stage power and plugging the rack into a convenient source.
