So Gnome, am I right in thinking that in the UK there is a list of legal songs from the MCPS that you get to work off of? Or is every case a case of submitting your own list to the MCPS for approval?

You submit your own list and they approve each song.
If a song is not registered you need to submit a replacement and see if that is allowed.

So the list of what is and what isn't registered is in a sense secret (to the karaoke manufacturer), and you have to hope that what you are submitting is on the list? If it isn't on the list your recourse might be to try and somehow contact the artist and see if the song might be added to the list.

The list is secret only MCPS know. If the song can't be done then you have to get it authorised in the US and go through all the problems everyone has been talking about on here.
As regards to contacting the artist this very rarely works, many don't like karaoke.
