Yikes, in another thread it was suggested that it is my responsibility to know the lyrics of every song so as to indentify which might be offensive.  That's one of the reasons I joined this forum; I'm relying on you guys for that info (just kidding).

Seriously, I have learned about some tunes with "X rated" lyrics on this forum, but I really have a limited knowledge of which songs are X rated.

I'm concerned cause I don't always work "adult" venues.  My job on the beach last year, for example, was in a venue that had one wall completely open to the street.  I started at 3pm on Sunday and the place was a restaurant and bar that had families coming in to eat.  There's no way to limit who might be within earshot of what was being sung.  Luckily, no questionable material was ever performed, but not because I knew enough to prevent it from happening.

Can you folks help create a list that I can keep with me of offensive karaoke songs?

I'm on my way out right now. I thought about doing this earlier for kjmelrose and you other folks who are trying to run a clean show but don't know contemporary music. Anyway I'll put up something like the Top 20 that are sung in my room tomorrow.

I imagine there will be others to contribute before then. Listing stuff like this is kind of fun...

The Rodeo Song - Don't know who sings it

goes something like this:  Get off the stage, you pizz me off, f**in jerk, Get on my nervous.

Also, Telephone Man by Meri Wilson.  Sounds cute until you listen to the words.  There are not any curse words but it is extremely suggestive.  I sing it all the time at home. The one time I sang it in public I was asked not to do so again. or to wait until after midnight...LOL...

Well it forty below and I don't give a **** got a heater in my truck and I'm off to the Rodeo....  Ah yes, I have performed it may times but never in karaoke.  You can't really tell what is going to offend someone.  Some titles speak for themselves like "the ballad of Chaisy Lane" which even made me uncomfortable as I heard it for the first time comming over my speakers.  "Bl*w me"  is rather a nice light jazz number with a questionable subject.  I suggest that you play what you like and don't worry about it.

isnt it all just a tad toooooo politically correct?

so what if there is the odd word? Surely grown ups are not going to have nightmares after hearing someone sing them in a song

Whenever I purchase a disc, I will google the lyrics of each song to make sure they are ok - our club does not like profane lyrics.

All of the Sound Choice Mama's discs.    Starting with 8169

Do you just want songs with the major swear words or sexually discriptive ones too?

90% of the  Rap & hip hop.

I love how you put all the eggs in one basket, there are many, many...rock/country songs that have these sexual undertones in them.  When some of the older stuff was released, noone knew what it ment or just ignored it.  Now with the internet age, you can find or get a suggested meaning of the lyrics.  If you get too politically correct, you would have trouble putting any songs in your book at all...MrD

Vicki, I agree with what you are saying, but Eric did point out his concern is with the general public being in earshot, including children.  I'll admit that I do not enjoy profanity in songs, but listening to The Rodeo Song has given me a few laughs at karaoke...  I just don't think this song would go down well with a young family walking along the beach within earshot!

The Rodeo Song and I95 have been around over 20 years.  Shame on me if I am not familiar with them.  It's the new stuff I'm concerned about!  Can anyone, aside from Bill, help?

Please note that I am not looking for an inventory of every song made that "fits the bill", or even every karaoke song that "fits the bill".   I'm looking to create a list based upon the popular karaoke songs you are aware of that should be avoided in a "G" environment.  thanks again

Alanis Morrisette - You Oughta Know - Do you think of me when you F*** her?

Merideth Brooks - Biatch - Nuff said on that one

There is a song called  "Get Low" it is hip hop or rap or something that my son sings.  It is very dirty. I don't know who sings it.

Even these discs have some ok songs, not all would be considered bad or lyrically profane.

What's wrong with Blvd Of Broken Dreams?   Other than the fact it does drop 1 f-bomb, otherwise it's a great song - be quick on the fader as a host & no one even has to know that it was even in there.

Love to love you baby - Donna Summer

Yes, it is old but is very suggestive.  I once had a girl sing it and she rolled around on stage like she was pleasuring herself.  Had several people ask me to stop her in the middle of the song.  I found a logical place to stop the song and then told her she could not sing that song at that venue again.

Yes SW....

Rap and Hip Hop gave us classics like Back Door Man, Rag Doll, Love in an Elevator, Whole lotta love, You Outta Know, etc...

As for helping to make the list, I would be interested in seeing it.

My addition- Break stuff- Linkin Park

"There is a song called  "Get Low""

That would be lil jon & the eastside boyz...

I would generally agree, we should put together a list that we could share between us all of some type.  To be used in a "G" rated type of room.  That is a great idea......MrD

I sing it "are you thinking of me when you do her".  And instead of "will she g0 d0wn on you in a theater", I sing "will she make love to you in a theater".  (That's not nearly as explicit, and it makes total sense.)
