Why kjmelrose I'm shocked at those lyrics!

No seriously if you want to get clued in on explicit language material (I won't call it offensive because it's not to the patrons of my room) just take a look at the playlists I posted in the "What was sung in your room last night" thread and eliminate anything you don't recognize from your books.

Which will probably be half of my room's songs.

I'm not sure why you would allow "Crazy (@$%&#!)" but not "Chasey" but that's your business.

This is interesting.  Buckcherry - Crazy Bytch is my most requested song (DJ), I don't have it karaoke.  Now...it has by any standards, got a more rude and crude subject matter than just about any other song out there.  The difference is, it has been socially accepted.  The song by BHG, isn't no where near as bad, but it looked at in a totally different light.  These type of songs, have limited places, times when they should be allowed to be played.  That is part your job as a DJ/KJ to know the material you are playing and when it's appropriate or not....MrD
"Crazy B" is out only on one disc, and I'm not sure how legal it is, because everyone that ever tried to get permission here in the states was flatly refused.

There's a LOT of "disgusting" types of songs that have been made. Personally I find the "Ballad of Chasey Lane" hysterical, especially if you ever watched their video... the guys are just nuts! (and their "Bad Touch" one is another video that shows how insane these jokers are!)

But having said that, there's a LOT of songs that I'd not play in some public venues.

As for those that you'd love to break and destroy, I do gotta admit there's a few that just irk me to no end.

"Turn the page" - either version ... I can sing it, but mostly drunk dudes do it, and murder it.
"The Rose" - only heard ONE woman EVER do it justice... the rest of the time it makes my hair line recede from me yanking it out in clumps!
COMPLETELY agree on "Picture" and "Friends in Low Places (Long Version)" - Heck, even sang well, I wanna take up smoking outside for the rest of the night! LOL!
VERY few people can do Ozzy any justice. I sang "Crazy Train" the other night, and had a group of people start to leave, and then realized I was doing well with it, and then sat back down and enjoyed it. Was told later by them that I was the only one they'd ever heard that EVER did a good job with it.

I don't LOOK like a rocker, but many times, will sing those kinda songs. Or humerous ones. I LOVE doing "Spiders & Snakes", and can get into it like Stafford could ('and I SHOOK it at her, and said 'Dis Frog's for YOU!') = gets folks gigglin' almost every time!

Oh, and I CAN sing "Scenes"! Nyah, mckyj57! LOL!

Me too. There's a lot of worse things out there than Bloodhound Gang.

Love "Fire Water Burn". It has some of the funniest and smartest lyrics in my book. Dare I say thoughtful on a BG song? Yeah....

But it's a little too low key to be done a lot. And the "Cmon party people" part goes too long at the end for the singers. Makes sense on the original though.

Yeah Lonnie the 2008 BHK CDG has it too (don't think that's the one you're mentioning).

I've had "Sorry" since January on NS. It was sung very seldom at first but is starting to pick up steam.

Once again, it seems that geography plays a role in what is requested at karaoke shows.

 - PBTDBL isn't requested much anymore around here, and lately the people requesting it do it quite well.  As a result the crowd loves it.
 -  Bohemian Rhapsody was never big around here.
 -  Summer Nights is done in moderation.
 -  Love Shack has gotten a lot a play lately, but for awhile it wasn't being requested.
 -  I just h-a-t-e Picture; however, actually had a couple do it quite well (for the first time) last week and I enjoyed it
 -  I could do without all Elvis, Neal Diamond, Frank Sinatra, yet some of it goes over quite well (Sweet Caroline and New York, New York) and I don't understand why?
 -  Can't remember the last time someone requested American Pie? But it's a great sing-along number!

SUGGESTION:
Amongst us, could we create a list of songs that run over Five (5) minutes?  While I can't get comfortable with leaving songs out of my catalog, I would be quite comfortable in stating (under certain conditions) that requests for songs over five minutes in length will not be honored.

You could have a rule that for any song over 6 minutes you use two of your turns.  One of the bad things about the longer songs is that musically they usually aren't much better than a 3 and a half minute song.

well I guess that cuts out some of the best dire straits songs, virtually all decent led zep, a goodly amount of metallica and queensryche, hotel california etc

If I can add my $.02 worth---

How about:

Music of the Night (unless done by a GREAT singer)
My Heart Will Go On (sung to daath)
Memory (unless sung by a REALLY good singer; and even this can be treacherous)
Black Velvet (I know that I will get an earful, as this usually is a crowd favorite)
Anything by Britney Spears

I can agree with the longer songs going to one pick instead of two. Most KJs around here have adopted the one song pick across the board anyway. I would do House Rent Blues (15 minutes almost) followed by White Bird by It's A Beautiful Day (easily six minutes) God, I was such a stage hog!!

I have to echo the responses of Before He Cheats and Picture. There hasn't been a week that's gone by that I haven't heard Picture since its karaoke debut... and I get tabbed to sing it with a female a lot. Before He Cheats was decent for awhile, but has grown tiresome in recent months.

Patience actually is still popular & gets a good response at our show.  American Pie I agree with, PBTBD if done well (i've only heard 1 couple nail it) can be a crowd pleaser, otherwise no.

Long repetitive songs no longer bother me. I think I've been given a special kj kind of super hero power to tune it out.

SUPER KJ BABS able to catch large falling PA systems as drunks knock them over, run at the speed of light to avoid puking drunk singers, and tune out bad songs with a wink of an eye.  LMAO

Picture is right up there with Folsom Prison Blues and Sweet Caroline as immense all-time karaoke hits.

What ever happened to Margaritaville? When I first started out, it seemed like it came up every night. I haven't heard it in months....

We have had several nights in the past few weeks where it never was sung -- fancy that. It may die out....

I think even the crowd gets bored with some of the old stand by sing- a -longs and they tend to come and go. I've heard American Pie, Paradise by the dash board lights, I've got Friends in Low Places, and Sweet Caroline come and go a few times.

As for, Before He Cheats, I think it is sung a lot because it is new. It will be replaced with something else in due time. It got picked a lot at my show too. Sometimes twice a night. It has already been phasing itself out. I haven't heard anyone sing it in a while.

For time comparison I just brought all four versions of "Friends In Low Places" that I have.

The shortest one is Legends. Two verses, two last chorus repeats. 3:55.

It takes the prize as the keeper.

I actually had it sung last night and it has a good shot at getting done tonight too. Last night I was a good boy. I kept it in fair rotation even though we were out over 20 and didn't keep bumping it all the way back to planet Pluto like I used to do. Since I've been hanging out in this forum I've been trying to do a better job of running a fair rotation.

Anyone got a shorter one put 'er up.

The new song I hear a lot of now is "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" by Drowning Pool.

You think you guys have problems.  LMAO

I'm still hearing Margaritaville more frequently than I care to.  I have one fellow who does a Pirate Turns 40.   With all of the GREAT Buffet tunes why are we so plagued with Margaritaville?

My favorite is Fruitcakes, though it's getting pretty dated.  It was a little prophetic when it came out in the nineties!  Now sushi can be found everywhere and the kids strut naked (or mostly naked) through more than just crosswalks these days (i.e see You Tube)!!!

Before He Cheats has not reached the saturation point here that Picture has achieved.

New York and My Way have been done ad nauseam.
