I never was much in lighting With a few par 38's and a busted Chavuet line dancer thats about it.
Question: With cost, effiency, and led's in mind what's the best options now in lighting small venues? This is a very general question but need some input at this time.. It will not be expansive but just an added attraction.

I use 8 par 46's on stage right now with an NSI light mixer that I can preset scenes & chase sequences for songs with a tap sync or can be hooked into the audio for beat sync.
Thinking about replacing the high heat high watt floods with low heat/low watt LED floods to replace.
Good stage lighting can make a big difference for a show.

What are you looking at specifically? Any links?
Would you have any different recommendations for people who have break down and haul their equipment every night?
Thanks!

when I do run lights, I run 4 small pars with the flood lamps. on a audio triggered chase box. 2 beacon lights, red and blue. and 2 small strobes. I controll it all off of an 8 chanel switch box. I also have a couple of the "dancer" type lights and a Dj scan 250, but almost never use them other than a full DJ show.

They have some nice packages that are mobile. When I moved the lights nightly they were on T-Bars on a tripod type stand. A little extra to carry but does add alot of ambience to an otherwise blah staging area.

I do both DJ and Karaoke. For DJ, I use a full setup. For Karaoke, I use different lighting for different occasion. I do mostly private parties, weddings and corporate gigs.
For a small venue, I bring very little lighting. Typically mirror ball simulator light, some color changing eggs and sometimes I will bring one Par 56 to put a spot on the person, to go with my company's name, You In A Spotlight Production.
If the gig is bigger, I will bring 4 Par 56, mirror, rotating head units, 4 LED par 36s to splash the wall.
Lighting is a pain mostly because of the setup and take down time. I hope to get a truss of some kind so it will be easier to set up. Right now I have two light stands that takes some time to set up.
For my DJ setup, I have a few more lighting I use, including strobes, etc. I find that strobes type lighting distracts singers so I don't use it for karaoke.
