"Cheeseburger in Paradise" is my favorite. I've sung that and "Fins".

I don't get tired of Margaritaville as much as it is sung. I think it's because the song has good harmony in it, is a solid song to start with, and it's got that laidback feel to it--hard to ruffle the feathers. I don't like PBDBL. Picture is ok but not great--at least not as overdone as it used to be. My Way is one of my least favorite songs. There are so many better Sinatra songs to sing...why this one???
Other long songs, like Dire Straits Sultans of Swing are great. It would be hard for me to get tired of it. Hotel California has too long of an outro. And then sometimes the KJ cuts the outro short, which is even worse!

Actually heard PBTDL done well tonight, wonder of wonders. The male singer was great, and the female part was done by a chorus of 3 reasonable singers. Not too bad -- but way too long, of course.
I met the owner of the club, a 3-night-a-week dedicated karaoke club in Buffalo. He is doing it as a thing to keep him busy in semi-retirement, and it is pretty cool. It has monitors everywhere, 7 mics, video of the singer as they sing, and a good crowd. If I ran one, I would hope it is like this.
He says the jocks have instructions not to let people sing American Pie or PBTDL unless 1) it is a group who all use their turns and 2) one of the singers is good.

Before He Cheats
Anything by the Dixie Chicks
Puff the Magic Dragon
Rockstar
She Hates Me
Ring of Fire - like the song hate to hear people butcher it.
PICTURE - hate this song with every fiber of my being.
At a Medium Pace - Adam Sandler's shampoo bottle song, Removed that one.
Nobody - Sylvia
Bodies
Gretchen Wilson songs (all of them because no one can sing them.)
Friends in Low Places (either version)
Stay - Sugarland
Etc...
I want to scream when I get request slips for these songs. But you gotta keep the singers happy or quit hosting karaoke, right?

You don't have to keep *all* the singers happy, just enough of the right ones. I don't think taking "At A Medium Pace" out of the book is going to turn off many people, but playing it might turn off some.

Well all right!
I don't do it myself but look forward to when I see it come up. Even as much as it's done it still gets the room going.
It helps that it's usually done by two of the more charismatic guys.

How many of these songs are truly cringe-inducing even sung by the original artist and how many of them are only that way because they are highly stylized songs that many people butcher?

I hear you on these.
Before He Cheats has pretty much supplanted Goodbye Earl as the penultimate man-hating song... at least, it has in my experience.
Redneck Woman gets butchered constantly, and one singer who attempted All Jacked Up was, in fact, so jacked up that she couldn't get 1/4 way through the song and I wound up saving her.
Friends in Low Places is just SO overdone... ugh. I've seriously heard it at least twice a week for the past 6 years.
Stay is a great song that's just now starting to push into the over-sung category; the problem I have with it is that nobody is prepared for the cold intro, so it takes them all about four measures to catch back up and save the performance.

As the KJ, it makes me cringe when someone brings up a song that's been so overdone that the room is going to tune it out. Singers butcher songs all the time. That's fine with me - and the room - if it's butchered with style. That's the essence of good karaoke.
I actually liked "Picture" the first time I heard it. I can't say the same several thousand times later.

Which version do you have? Mine has a 4 beat intro of extra strumming & onscreen countdown.

CB starts with the four count over the opening strum. I've had the same problem. What have you got Lonnie?

Chartbuster is the one I have as well. I did hear someone bring in their own disc - Pop Hits I believe that just started, no intro at all.
