OK I have tried to start a positive thread about karaoke.. This thread is not about me or Cabaret Karaoke. It is meant to present ideas to promote our business and succeed. Surely there are others here who have a more successful business than I do. Let's have your knowledge!!!

Why bother, good ideas just get shot down by certain whiners that don't agree or wouldn't ever do on the board.  Let's keep all knowledge to ourselves & not share or try to teach anyone as they may try to steal our shows.

There is one difference...i can honestly speak from the experience of thousands of shows over 15 years.   I have seen exactly what works and what doesn't.    Just the facts, nothing more.    If it sounds negative it is and usually it's because i have seen the mentioned "new idea" fail miserably.    EXPERIENCE, MORE THAN 90% of the other posters.   That's the difference.

.Nice Venue! I like the little step-up stage thing with the dance floor directly in front cordoned off from the seating area with that railing. Very Nice. A few par can lights and it would be perfect. oh yeah

You have that right> My exact same thoughts. I have started a thread on lighting but have not  had much response...

Once again, I say "PROVE IT!"

You can talk and talk (or type and type)... until you prove it, you're just another loudmouth spouting off!

I DON'T BELIEVE you!

Just one cotton pickin’ minute here!

I have never heard any other KJ on this forum challenged to prove that they are what they say they are.  Just because SW could stand to be a little more humble, and not come across as the best KJ ever, or the only one that knows how to run a show right, does not mean he has to prove it or shut up.  Everyone of us has a right to an opinion, and to post here on the forum.  Nobody has all the answers, and the answer to ones show may not fit other shows. If you don’t like the way he posts, then ignore them.  As to him declaring exactly where he has his show, isn’t there an inherent right to privacy here.  Not all of us give the city and state where we work. Some just give the state, some just the country they are in.  If he wants to keep his venue (s) private that’s his business.

I for one am tired of interesting threads being hijacked into either SW bashing or arguing with him.  Several times I have posted seeking advice or opinions on a topic, hoping to get a variety of input from others, but they get hijacked, and I'm lucky if I get 2 or 3 answers to the question I asked. I think all of you are great, and have learned a lot from this forum, and hope to be able to continue to learn and appreciate.

SW,  you could tone down your attitude some.  You have a right to your opinion, but you do come across many times like you think you are the only one that knows how to run a karaoke show right.  If something works for you, ie karaoke and only karaoke, that's fine. Other's may feel they have to do their shows the way they do because of the venue they are in, or it's what keeps their crowd there spending money.  No one has all the answers, not even you, Darlin'

Now, I”ve said my piece and sincerely hope I didn’t alienate any of you.

IBM had years of experience when Bill Gates became one of thier venors and "cleaned their clocks"

Blockbuster (from right here in S Fl) thought they had the world by tail

American automobile manufacturers (which now include Honda and Toyota) thought THEY WERE the "end all"

So, SW, what is your point about all your experience? Considering you have been doing the same thing in one geographic location, couldn't it be said that you have one year of experience 15 times?

More important, couldn't it be said that you haven't impressed too many of us with all of your experience?   Yeah, we know!!!!
     - Do strictly karaoke
     - No hip-hop
     - Censor/edit your song catalogs
     - No drunks
     - No cheap equipment
     - Song Books with only the Best Version

Now, IMHO, these subjects involve personal decisions that are made by each of us who care about what we are doing.  And we're participating here because we care.  So, who needs such bloviating?

One of my best nights was when I volunteered a free karaoke party for an AA club in Cheyenne It was a bikers AA club. They are the best. Here when a vet is being put to rest bikers are shielding the mother from protesters. My mother in her 80's was guarded and protected by Son's of Silence when she was having her few beers in our local bar. Give me a bikers bar any day. Anybody with negative comments about bikers sounds like a predjudice borne from somebody that has never been in a bikers bar.

and you Blue are entitled to your opinion.

You were not here when another member was dismissed for the very things that have given SW 4 warnings. A member that many people think is this same individual. For all his "facts" he posts, he refuses to divulge where he is so visitors can see if he's really this great host! This isn't just ME that has a problem with SW's attitude. He continually posts these "facts" yet he won't show location to who he is or where he is.

Blue, let me apologize....to you.

You are here for the reasons I came here for when I was getting going- to get knowledge. It is a shame that the quest can be easily sidetracked.

As Matt said in the previous post, do a search for posts from a BIGDOG. If you look at the tone and feeling, you will see more than a passing similarity to the current Sidewinder.

The challenge of asking where he is, isn't so much to say he has to tell us, but more because if he is what he says, I for one would be dang curious to see it in action. There are a few inconsistensies in things he has stated, and I believ a night of watching him in action would clear them up. If it is possible to relly run a show singer to singer no down time, no dead air, and no need for filler while a machine even cues up a song, I WANT to see it in action. If he lives in my area, maybe he considers me a threat. If he is in an area where another KJ on this board is, maybe they are a threat. With his ego, I doubt that. Especially since he has made it clear none of us could pase a threat to him.

It is therefore my and some of the others on here deductive reasoning that the true reason he does not post his true location is for fear that he know he cannot produce what he preaches. And if someone was to attend one of his shows, it may very well be well run, and sound great, but not be quite as flawless as he claims.

That what the challenge arises out of. We just want to learn and seek professional to professional improvement. C'mon SW....where ya hidin...?

I'll give ya a little example of expectations too...

Lonnie once told myself and others that came up to see him, that having so many people he knew from online, and that a couple of us were hosts ourselves, he really felt a bit nervous, and in te spotlight.

I've had folks come to my show from this online community and a couple others, and know a bit about what Lonnie was saying, but I'm going, "This is LONMAN! No WAY would he feel nervous or anxious!"

And Lonnie's been doing this a longgggg time. I think he started when he was like 12 or something... he's just a kid! LOL!

It was a pure pleasure to see such a pro in action, and my visit with him was brief... kinda felt like seeing a famous person do their thing.

Same thing with Tigrr27... first time I saw him in action, I was pretty much awestruck!

For some reason ALL of BD posts were deleted, but you can search & see some of the actual quotes that he wrote that people responded to.  Yes exactly the same mannerisms, tone, overuse of emoticons, avoidance of general vicinity of his location.  Only thing that he hasn't done yet was brag about his $600 mics with the same actual capsule as a $100 wired & hasn't gone on about how you set & forget an eq as it will sound the same in every room.

My apologies if I offended anyone.  I am new here, only a bit over a month, so I haven’t had the time to get as tired of some things as most of you have.  I do understand where your coming from. The main objective of the post I made was to get across that I am seeking knowledge and advice from you, the more experienced KJ’s, and it’s hard to get if threads keep getting hijacked.

Quote:
SW, I'm just passionate about teaching quality karaoke.

It's statements like this that get everyones dander up, and if they have been hearing them for quite awhile, I can understand their point too.  In the month I have been attending, I have become familiar with many of the people on this forum, and I would say the majority are very knowledgeable about karaoke and run successful shows. They don't need anyone to teach them how to do it.  If your way of doing karaoke works for you and keeps your crowd happy, Great!  Maybe, their way of doing karaoke works for them.  I know some have stated that some of their gigs have been ongoing for 2 to 5 years, so they must be doing something right.   Your posts might be better received if you offer them more in the context of, 'this is what works for me'  rather than professing that you are "passionate about teaching quality karaoke."   If they have gigs with such longevity, they know how to run a quality show that suits their venues, and they don't need anyone to teach them how to do it.  IMHO The basic reason for karaoke is to entertain customers and keep them in that bar spending money, instead of going down the street. If the way the show is run, whether it be pure karaoke, a mix of DJ and KJ, or whatever, accomplishes this, then I feel it is a successful show.

Although I have hosted and been the master of ceremony of many different type shows I am first and foremost an entertainer. I have sang all over europe and have entertained the prime minister of Greece and others. I am good I am very good. When I pick up the mic whether at a karoke show or with a band the energy level goes up 100%. I do not need to brag or feed my ego here or anywhere else. I do have one of the better systems around plus I have hired the best host  around.I take the back seat to nobody. I can provide you with references from bar owners or singers. I am one of the best can prove it and make no bones about it.
