I agree.

I also come up with some nicknames for my regulars (back when I hosted regularily). a kj I had that worked part time did that, and I REALLY liked her style. I started out with friends, and then some of the regs would complain that I didn't have nicknames for them.

A lot of this went into the splash screens I made for the regulars too. I got a cool font where the "i" had a star for the dot... and suddenly everyone wanted STARS on their names! LOL! So I spent some time redoing the splash pages... time... like four or five seconds per splash screen! LOL!

In fact, the humor became so much a part of my show, that when I was feeling rather down, the folks RECOGNIZED it as I wasn't my "usual, lively self!"... they were coming there because I was usually so upbeat! And when a friend would notice this, I'd make an effort to put the crap behind me, and go into "matt mode"...

Funny you should say that Matt...

I have some regulars that I pick on in a friendly manner, a la Don Rickles. Nothing really mean, just funny- like since we have a lot of Dave's, he has become Lil Dave. So I call him up by saying Little in more ways than 3 Dave...

Anyway, last week I was very tired since I had just picked up my wife from the hospital (everythings OK- just elective), and I was being 'polite' on the mic. About 3 people came up to me and asked what was wrong because I wasn't ribbing them! Shocked me!

But I do have to say humor can conquer most dead crowds...

Oh...Dave (DBK1009)....

You're not as funny as you once were...

But to me you're just as funny once as you ever were.

That sounds like I could get a song out of it, perhaps C&W?
Let's see:  La La La La LALA

PS:  I like the idea of bestowing nicknames on regulars.  I have some regulars who appeared with nicknames already:  "Stingray" "Styx" "Kat" "Rockin' Johnny B", "DBK1009"

Uhm  DBK1009 ---- "Djing(the)BestKaraoke1009(times)"????

Stop that or people will start to wonder....

Is "Stingray" an older gentleman, kinda short, amazing Segar and Phil Collins?

If so, he has started coming out Saturdays....

Anyway, I just tell Eric I'll cal him to sing later.....much later.....

The Cheer signs wow I forgot about that,  that's also the pandering mode of the KJ.  I have seen the Faux Crowd Applause soundbytes from a KJ and if the singer's a good sport push the button that sounds the Solo Clap or Crickets.

I could care less about the applause but at least have it honest.
