At bar A.

They have karaoke one night a week.

The first week of the month it's on Monday for the lunch crowd.
The second week it's on Satruday for the late crowd.
On the third week it's on Wednesday for the dinner crowd.
On thew forth week it's on Friday it's for the afternoon crowd.

Bar B.

The have karaoke every week on Satudays.

The first week the KJ has 20 singers so it's all karaoke.
The second week the KJ has 15 singers so it's karaoke with DJing.
On the third week the KJ has 10 singers so it's karaoke, Djing and magic tricks.
On the forth week the KJ has 5 singers so it's kitchen sink night complete with Djing, magic and Jay Leno with a splash of karaoke.

Bar C.

They have karaoke every week and they have a different KJ company every week.

On the first week the KJ has a good system but a small selection.
On the second week the KJ sang 5 songs every rotation.
On the third week the KJ had a lousy system but a big song book.
On the forth week the KJ had a decent system and a decent selection but his friends sang 3 songs to your 1.

Bar D.

They have karaoke every week.

On the first week the crowd F Bombed everyone to death.
On the second week the crowd was pretty normal with a few F Bombs.
On the third week the crowd was OK until the KJ played F Bombing hip hop and rap and a fight broke out.
On the forth week the crowd started out normal but the KJ got smashed and the night ended up with the crowd going nuts.

All of the above are real karaoke situations.

If you were the singer which of these nights would you want to got to karaoke?

IMO (don't write me any letters) the karaoke singers have nothing "consistant" to work with or look forward to.   The situations are not the best to attract singers on a regular basis.

People in general like consistancy.  They like to be in their comfort zone.   They don't like change.    They want to know what activites they can expect when they go out to spend their hard earned money.   If they like karaoke they want to sing and have that expectation.

If your shows aren't attracting all the singers you think you should have...draw your own concusions.

I run a predictable show every night, at every bar.  Nobody has to guess if i'll be drunk or sober.
They don't have to guess how the system will sound.
They don't have to guess about the selection.
They don't have to worry about me acting like the star of the show.
They don't have to worry about the fairness of the rotation.
They know if they go to my show on a different night at a different bar, everything will be the same without surprises.
They know whether i have 5 singers or 25 that they will get to sing as much as possible.
They can count on a full night of karaoke music.
They can count on ME.
Bar owners know they can count on me to do a quality karaoke show.

As a karaoke singer of all of the above examples, which show would you want to attend on a regular basis.

Shows that are singer friendly have a better chance of attracting singers. :O

Hey TTown, I bet you'd have a hard time trying to find where that bar is... 'cause it's another hypothetical figment of imagination!

Here is what is conducive to attracting me (roughly in order of importance):

1. Good quality sound
I like singing a wide range of songs.  I want to be able to sing Long Time by Boston without my voice wearing out because I am trying to overcompensate for a bad mic.  I want the mic to sound just as good when I sing my song...as the last person who sang before me, and I want them to sound just as good as the KJ when he/she sang their song! ;)

2. A professional KJ
By this, I don't mean someone who addresses me as Mr. Seattle Drizzle, but someone who treats all singers equally, and does the part of being a good host--polite, graceful, welcomes newcomers, and treats the regulars like regulars.   Someone who when you walk in the door is happy to have you there, and when you depart, hopes you'll be there next time.

3. Diverse crowd of singers
I like a place where what people sing is all over the map.  This makes me feel more comfortable singing a wide variety of songs too.  I don't like listening to one specific genre all night long.

4. Good selection of songs
Of course a good selection of songs will attract a diverse crowd of singers.  Old, new, borrowed, and blue.

5. Bar atmosphere
This is least important for me, though usually a place that hires a good KJ will be a little nicer place.  If inside of the bar looked like a elegant courtyard with a fountain in the middle of it, that would be cool.  But if they have great sound, a great KJ, good songs, the place can have a clanky screendoor and shingles missing on the roof, and I'll still go there to sing

Oooh, OOOh
At first I thought this was a trick question, but now I get "it", Mein Fuhrer!!!

How about:

The "World's Greatest Karaoke Show", hosted by the "World's Greatest KJ", at the "World's Best Karaoke Venue", that no one can find, because no one ever heard of it, because no one has ever been there, because it is nothing more than an urban legend concocted while dropping acid, by someone who is a legend in their own mind.

Am I right? Am I right?

So, do I win a free night of hearing non-stop karaoke, done by the most venerable, world's greatest KJ?  Or am I stuck going somewhere else and having a good time?

As a singer I prefer to go to a place that has Karaoke 7 nights a week no matter what.  That is the norm around here and you didn't list it as one of your choices.  When I am traveling I find a place where I know someone and that is where I go.   ie. Lonman's show when I am in the seattle area (now Karen and some others).  In Illinios or Indiana I would go see Babs. Austin, TX, I go see XX, in Oklahoma City I go see Full House Ent.  I could go on.  But you are smart, I think you probably have it by now.  :)

Actually i was hoping to hear from more SINGERS as to what they want and how they feel about it.

I would say that people on vacation that sing would look for a place that has "karaoke."

I don't recall seeing where i said i was the best of anything.  I just offered up some different real karaoke scenarios.   Now singers have to tell the KJs what they prefer and what kind of show they really want to attend.   They "could" hate the scenario i presented.     There are 5 of them with many different mini scenarios.    They are all open to equal scrutiny.

LET the "singers" dictate how the karaoke show should be run.

Singers NOW is your chance to voice your opinions.   WE want to know.

Add to this good food, ladies night wells half off, a disco type atmosphere and gals dancing on the bar, then you are describing my show.
