We have alot in common, then. That's my goal, too. The KJ's around here that played filler and DJ music are MIA. If I went to a show that plays 10 songs per hour, I'd leave. That's fewer chances to sing. If I have 20-30 people in a rotation, I can't think of any reason to play anything but karaoke. H*ll, I can't think of a reason to play anything but karaoke if I have 2 people that want to sing alot. It's all about building relationships with your regulars, and keep them happy and giving money to the bar. The till determines whether or not I did my job. If the crowd wanted to hear the jukebox, then they would only come in on non-karaoke nights. But the majority of my crowd are non-singers that come in to be entertained by the SINGERS.
I'm really happy for you that your system works where you are, but it wouldn't here.

I think most KJ's who actually admit to playing some filler music due so with the experience and knowledge that they are not jeopardizing their KARAOKE livelihood.
If my night was lucky enough to have a large rotation ..heck I'm back to back karaoke with a very RARE filler/dance tune. If my rotation is SHORT but constant with the same 5 singers. I have to mix things up and despite what most singers understand - The Majority of people are not there to hear you SING 3 songs per hour. I DON'T MIND thats my business ( just like a proctologist don't mind looking in your azz) its his JOB! LMAO LMAO LMAO
I would LOVE a Karaoke Bar full of 20 singers and everyone having a BLAST and being satisfied with all the songs and music every show . I don't have that and it's not for lack of quality or desire but circumstances and each venue and show is unique in that way. The age old adage is this --IF IT WORKS FOR YOU GOOD! DON'T FIX IT IF IT AIN'T BROKE..... BUT IF IT NEEDS ADJUSTMENT ---YOU HAVE TO MAKE SOME TWEAKS HERE AND THERE TO GET YOUR SHOW BACK ON TRACK.

SW, if you honestly think that non-singers have no place at a karaoke show, you've been misled. They buy more beer and whiskey then the singers will. Somehow I've got to keep the others interested too. You start getting snooty and you'll find yourself alone before you know it.
My non singers always out number the singers. 2-3-4-5 to 1
BUT THEY WILL NEVER DICTATE THE MUSIC I PLAY OR HIJACK MY SHOW. My show is and always will be a karaoke show.
I know how to keep them all there and entertained. If you as a KJ haven't learned or refused to learn how to do that, it's not my fault. I'm not at a bar for a party. I'm there to do karaoke. If you hire me for a party, i'll have a party. Playing a regular CD is an easy way out. Like magician doing an illusion. They distract you over here while they do the trick over there. You never know you've been had, until it's over.
I'm a karaoke protologist. The singers get to sing all night, i'll probe the non singers. While keeping them all there and entertained.

And no one, by golly, is going to have a party while they're at my show dosh garnit, (I meant gosh darnit)!!! I'm in control, ooommmph! When the last karaoke singer in town is standing, they'll be standing at my mic. No, one dictates anything, nothing, nada, to me. And no good-timing, party-going, fun-loving fool, who doesn't understand that the world revolves around karaoke, is going to get me to do otherwise. This is not a democracy. And even after I'm gone cause no one cares any longer about pure karaoke shows, I'll be standing there, at my KARAOKE MIC. Nothing is going to change how I do things, one iota. Nope, I'll never change regardless of what the foolish public might want. I'm not here to please anybody but the god of karaoke.

And just like Detroit, which kept making cars no one wanted, I'll be doing my
thing. Just consider that even if no one else wanted those cars, the folks living in "Detroit" wanted 'em!!
And never forget: "AS GOES GENERAL MOTORS, SO GOES THE COUNTRY"
Long live karaoke (and a pox and all dj's/kj's)

GM didn't stop making cars. :O Last time i looked. Whatever is coming out still has 4 wheels and a steering wheel. Smells like a new car.
You are stopping karaoke in favor of something else. You are limiting karaoke at your karaoke show. It's only going to be natural that sometime soon the singers will stop coming to the non existant karaoke show.
Without singers what do you have???? What kind of a karaoke show has no singers? When they stop coming what will you do? The lines are getting smaller now. Maybe it's because of something that isn't happening enough. Singing. You have admitted that if you have 10-15 it's a "Good" night. That's a low average night for me. The reason they come is to sing, without that reason why come?
Come on everyone, let's go to karaoke where nobody sings. It's so much.... fun.

I've been 'busy" taking care of "personal stuff", but after reading your comments on this (and EVERY other post) it seems to me that no matter what people "share" with each other, you STILL have to be an argumentative, obnoxious, self-centered, legend in your own mind, little p.i.s.s. ant. I, and, I know for a fact, the majority of members here, will not miss you when your finally deep six yourself. BTW, that "remark" you aimed at "Babs", shows everyone here, just what a despicable little t.u.r.d. you actually are. You still tend to show your true colors (not pretty at all) and have no feelings for ANYBODY on this forum. WOW...4 warnings...and yet you're still here. W.T.F. is wrong with this forum...AND...it's moderators....AND..it's web-master. By them letting you remain, as far as I'm concerned, they're enabling you to ruin what once was a friendly, sharing, caring, knowledge based experience. So, with that, as long as this poor excuse for a man remains, and is allowed to continue ruining what I USED to enjoy....the people who "run" this, and SW, can all go.......... (you know...you ALL know)!!! Don't bother "WARNING" me. It's a waste of time. SW is proof of that!!!!! I'll check back in about a year....this piece of c.r.a.p. will probably still be here....with 20 freakin' "warnings". I'm done!!

Donny,
the difference between you and me is, I don't let him get me riled.
SW/BD is a tiny flea on the arse of the karaoke world... why are you letting him get to you like that?
I call him on his B.S., and that's about it!

The problem, Matt, is that he is filling up virtually every important thread with his rantings and ravings
Then he successfully baits us to respond, further filling up the threads
Then the threads go "off topic"
Then nobody wants to read thru all of the BS
Then nobody knows what post to repond to
Go look at the "audience participation thread" over 100 posts long. How many of the posts actually deal with the original poster's comments? NOT TO SAY THAT SW IS THE SOLE POSTER RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT I HAVE JUST POINTED OUT, but he does take it to a "new art form"!!!
AND HE DOESN'T GET IT - HE THINKS WE'RE COMPLAINING ABOUT HIS OPINIONS AND WANT TO STRIP HIM OF HIS RIGHT TO HAVE ANY. HE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THAT WE'RE COMPLAING ABOUT HIS ARROGANT, INSULTING, KNOW-IT-ALL DEMEANOR. And what irks you most, Matt, is we haven't an iota of evidence, scintilla of facts, that justify his arrogance. At least if he were the "King of Karaoke" I could understand!!!
And while I'm not for banning the dog, he's got nowhere left to go and I think he could become quite an asset, I would at this point rather lose 5 dogs than lose Donny!!!

Wow, people, get a grip. If you don't like his comments just skip over his posts. Get real, act like adults. Don't like his arrogance? Don't respond to his comments.
This is a great place and loads of fun, lots of great people. Enjoy the good stuff and don't focus on what you don't like, jeez. This in elementary school playground level stuff. Move on, let it go. Enjoy the people and the discussions here that you choose to participate in/on. Change the channel on the ones that you don't like, this is basic stuff.

Is my "advice" really so bad? I don't think so. I'll keep repeating it until you get sick of it. Eventually you'll "get" it or you'll give up in frustration and leave. Handle it, deal with it, don't blow a gasket.
When you're standing in front of the salad bar, do you eat every item? I bet you don't. I'll be honest, I don't read EVERY thread here. Only the ones that interest me. I don't comment on every thread that I read. Some folks aren't my favorite, I keep shuffling along...
You seem stressed out and this seems to be a blow off valve where you can release some steam. I can understand that.
Why keep focusing on sidewinder and what you don't like about him and what he says or how he has been saying it. Focus on all the other interesting discussions and ideas here and all the good, nice, interesting people. Have fun, don't worry be happy.
I find it funny that you would think that we're the same person. I'm in the Tampa Bay area, the mods can verify that from my IP address. I don't know where he's from. I don't like everything he says, but I'm not getting bent out of shape about it.

Hey JR, apparently some people don't understand what signal to noise ratio is. Those people for some reason also think spam is OK, because "you just hit delete".
They don't get it, and don't understand that everything reaches a signal-to-noise ratio where people will just not bother any more. That is when things die, and the "just ignore, just hit delete" people are left scratching their heads bemoaning their fate.
I would personally love to have a karaoke newsgroup, but spam has killed Usenet. The spammers and those who say "Just hit delete", that is.

If there is one person until now(now you can hate on me too for whatever reason) that you can't stand here, that's a pretty low signal to noise ratio. The guy has 4 warnings, he'll get tossed soon, what are you guys going to complain about then? ME? Why be so unhappy? Why focus on the negative?
I suggested that people here try to focus on the good things here and that part of my message is ignored.
I'm not the one having a melt down and in crisis mode over this. I'm not the one threatening to leave. I am the one suggesting people try to find the good. Seems some folks just want to look for negativity and there seems to be plenty of that.
So let me understand. sidewinder leaves or is kicked out, everything will be great. everyone will get along and all will be good with the world. sidewinder is the source of all bad things here. Sounds like he's a scapegoat for some unhappy people to me.

Mickey Mouse is still mad at me because he thinks everyone should use $500+ wireless mics and I said that's preposterous. That's going to simmer and smolder for a good long time.

Stogie, you're starting to sound bi-polar like ME!!!!
Yes it seems like we both sometimes out-of-character "vent" with a post that doesn't reflect our true nature or personality.
My purpose was to come to karaoke scene to share, learn and laugh, but became offended at a few rude posters. Unfortunately my normally nice-demeanor became inflamed a few times and i reacted instead of responded like a thoughtful adult.
I really have ZERO stress in my life and constantly laugh out loud all day- i am semi-retired in hawaii for gawds sake. no stress here. just coconut trees and beach.
I will also edit my previous post. It wasn't mean or vicious, it was dramatic and did exaggerrate on Stogie's last post. My apologies. J.R.
And thank you MCKJJ57- i've always liked you and your posts!
