This is kind of part two to the how many nights a week thread. It might be kind of fun to see what everyone likes to sing and what type of rooms you're in.
As I said in the other thread I sang three times as host last karaoke night.
Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc. (Not hard to do at all. But I started the night with this one because if I'm unsure what to do, I've found that you can't go wrong with Gorillaz. They are very popular with all music types.)
Queen - Fat Bottomed Girls. (I'm really a classic rocker doing this young karaoke room. I gotta do one.)
Akon - Bartender. (Sung not to the bartenders, both guys last Saturday, but because it's a good dance number and I hadn't done it in awhile.)
Put 'em up! If you choose to participate, feel free to explain why you chose your selections or just list them and let that speak for itself.

Could be a couple more that I don't remember. Dang you got that many on a Sat night? Our show was dead & people were lucky to sing 4 songs.
Last night I opened with Steely Dan - Do It Again, did 3 Doors Down - Kryptonite & closed with Freebird - Lynyrd Skynyrd - all 3 requests.

18 & Life- Skid Row

Sat-

TY Bill....I always try to do a big variety in my sets. I try to get in the classic Ed Sullivan quote "And now for something completely different...."

Lonman, the place I go to regularly is like "Cheers". Everyone knows me there.
It's a small place and last Saturday there were only a few singers. Once I start singing all of the non singers turn around to see who it is. After one or two songs people start asking me to please sing more. This happens whether they are a regular or a new person. If I see someone is obviously enjoying my singing, I will go up to them and talk with them, thank them and ask if they have any requests etc. I become the entertainment. It pretty much happens every time I go there.
It's an intimate and very friendly atmosphere most nights. It's very informal, and small, nothing like what you do at your show. Maybe 20-25 people can fit in this place inside, the most 30 total.
There is a guy who takes the slips and puts the CDs in, but I wouldn't call him a KJ and he sings at every opportunity and not very well either. He thinks he's good, but he sounds like a bellowing moose. I imagine he gets between $25-$50 for 3 hours.
Many times when other people who aren't very good singers are singing, people will come up to me and beg me to go sing "to end the torture".
Once I start singing they want me to keep singing. That's why I get to sing so much at this place.
After the "KJ" leaves I usually take over until the end of the night if there are still people there who want to sing or who want me to sing.

I sang:
"Eighteen" - Alice Cooper
"Hash Pipe" - Weezer
"T.N.T." - AC/DC
in a little less than 3 hours. Got out late. Had to finish some chores before my wife would let me go...

I was not doing the gig, and we were not crowded (half the club in Louisville for a bowling function).
I sang a bunch, since we had 4-7 singers instead of the usual 10-14.
I think it went something like:
Too Gone Too Long -- Randy Travis (Often the first I do)
Amarillo By Morning -- George Strait (Rarely do it out, often do it in practice)
Chasin' That Neon Rainbow -- Alan Jackson (New song for me)
Hard Rock Bottom Of Your Heart -- Randy Travis (Randy Travis songs are what I sound best on)
Go On -- George Strait (People like this one)
Small Town Saturday Night -- Hal Ketchum (It was Saturday, and we are a small town)
The Impossible -- Joe Nichols (Request)
Texas Tornado -- Tracy Lawrence (Request for Tracy Lawrence)
Diggin' Up Bones -- Randy Travis (People love this one)
Blue Clear Sky -- George Strait (Request)
Brokenheartsville -- Joe Nichols (Hadn't done for a while, wanted to try with better breath support I have now)
I was happy to do pure country, since I had been stressing the (few) rock numbers I have during my trip East.

I sang on Saturday night at my friend's usual gig:
Piano Man - Billy Joel
A Groovy Kind of Love - Phil Collins
Blinded by the Light - Manfred Mann's Earth Band (I sang this to annoy the KJ who is a friend of mine but he annoys a lot of people with his attitude. One of his pet peeve is a long song. I chose the longest one I know how to sing.)
I also did a duet with a friend who wanted to do Pictures by Sheryl Crow and the Kid Rock on her rotation.
I think most I ever sang at this place when it was dead was like 5 songs.

I was on stage from 4:00 to 9:00 Saturday. In that time, I was the only one singing, mainly because it was my show and I don't do karaoke shows. Every now and then, I will go visit a friend of mine who does karaoke and will sing at her show though. I think it is a lot of fun, but not as much fun as being on stage with my band. I had my band with me, and I sang so many songs, it would take more time than I have to name them all. I can give you an idea of my list by saying I did most of Merle Haggard's tunes, most of George Strait's tunes, a few Alan Jackson, some Buck Owen's tunes, I know I did at least 3 by Johnny Rodriguez tunes, some Ray Price tunes and most of the originals that I have recorded and get air play over several local radio stations. I will be back on the same stage for the next 2 weeks doing basically the same show. There will be some variation in the list, just not sure what I am going to do yet. It is only Monday and I want to think about it for a couple of days.--Mike

Oh wow! Question Karen!!
OK so what's with "Jolene"? I have a couple of younger singers who do it but hate what I have which is the traditional Dolly Parton version. They keep saying "this doesn't sound right". So is this a modern re-release of the classic? And what CDG should I get?
thanks-
Bill
